3 thoughts: 1. Great for casual use. Anything around the house/yard and even some light exercise, these are enjoyable to wear. 2. [-1 star] The mesh netting these are made of is a double-edged sword: (A) Their breathability is outstanding. My feet are rarely too warm and they breath exceptionally well. (B) However, the mesh netting has no stiffness to it, so there's no ankle support. The end result is that these are NOT GOOD for hiking, intense sports (basketball, tennis, pickleball, etc). I went hiking on a fairly light trail the other day and ended up with small cuts around my ankles. Though I'm not sure an athlete is seriously considering these as their athletic shoe of choice. I just tend to be a one-pair-of-shoes kinda guy, so I like to have something that works at least decently for everything. These are not those shoes. 3. Build quality has been great. Despite my concerns about the limitations of the mesh construction, the durability of the shoe and the sole itself have been outstanding. I REALLY like the sole they have on here, it's very stick and seems durable. Like I said, I do light exercise in these pretty frequently (pickleball, pick-up basketball, etc.) and they've held up well. I REALLY wish Altra would put this sole on their other shoes that have wimpy soft rubber on the bottom. All in all a great shoe, especially if you can get it for less than $75. Cheers! ... show more

These shoes really feel like a sock on your foot, but you have to loosen the laces all the way down a LOT in order the make the shoe loose enough to be comfortable. Once you work on the laces, then you can really get the fit very comfortable. These are very good walking shoes, especially for Altras, and they have the great forefoot and generous toe box. Since they are a loose-weave fabric, these shoes won’t handle wet weather, but they breathe well and really fit like a second skin!
