  • Really comfortable shoes
I’m a 70 year old male way past my days of competitive 10K road racing but I still enjoy a good 6 mile jog in a comfortable, good fitting, well made, lightweight, well cushioned shoe. So far the Altra Torin line has given me exactly that. In the past I’ve owned Torin IQ, Torin 2, Torin 4 Plush and the Torin 5’s I’m reviewing here. I have a fairly wide foot and the Altra Natural Foot Shape Last really works well for me. I’ve owned Altra Rivera, One, Lone Peak, TIMP, Superior, and Provision. I’ve enjoyed them all, but the Torin line has been my favorites. For jogging on hard surfaces; like concrete walking paths in San Diego or black top bike paths like the Tucson Loop, the Torin shoes give me the best combination of comfort and cushion I’ve found and I love the zero drop heel configuration. As far as fit goes, I like to walk when I play golf. My best fitting golf shoes are Adidas 8.5W or Nike 9W. To get the Altras to fit right I need to buy a size 9 regular. So they seem to be a little shorter than Adidas and more inline with the length of a Nike shoe, but since the Natural Foot Shape toe box is so wide, the regular D width is OK for me, fit wise. ... show more

  • Love at first run!
Size: 9.5 Color: Black
Beginner runner here. First time experiencing the awesome toebox, i dont think i can go back to regular shoes going forward. Its really light and has good support. No problems with the tongue. I'm usually a size 9.5 so went with that, it was perfect. First use i thought i would need some time to get used to it, so i decided to just walk, but then mid-walk decided to run a bit. All good all the way. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Like them, but not what Altra used to be.
Size: 10.5 Color: Black
I’ve been wearing Altra shoes for at least 12 years if not more. Way back when you used to have to order from a catalog and then their website…. But now that Vanity Fair bought them out, they just don’t last as long as they used to. VF bought them out in 2018, they own Vans, North Face, Dickies, SmartWool, Wrangler, and several other shoe companies and other clothing companies. I have owned all the original Altra shoes although I wear a 10 and every other shoe Altras have always been a half size bigger so a 10 1/2 for me. No complaint there. My only complaint is that now the toebox is not as wide as they used to be and I personally think that is for aesthetic reasons. The materials used don’t seem to last long and hold up under trail running and hiking conditions as the older shoes used to. I have had at least 30 pair or more and the original lone Peak shoes would last quite some time. The new Altra shoes are now the same as Hoka One Ones, they just don’t hold up as well as they used to. What do I see that has changed? For starters the cushioning, it does not last as long as expected when paying $130 or more for a pair of running trail running and hiking shoes. The beloved toebox has gotten slightly narrower. The tread does not last as long, especially the more aggressive tread. the lugs tend to break off or just plain wear out. I still love Altras I will continue wearing them however, I wish the days are old, where construction and wearability were top notch! But that’s the price of progress specially, when I conglomerate like VF owns what used to be a cottage industry shoe. ... show more

  • Love the wide toe box.
Size: 8.5 Color: Maroon
Fits great, zero drop, yet some cushion. Wide toe box without heel moving around. Totally worth it.

  • UPDATED 2 MONTHS: Runs Small - Order a size up!
Size: 11 Color: Majolica Blue
UPDATED REVIEW 2 MONTHS USE I reordered in a size up (I usually wear 10.5, sometimes 11 like in vans slip ons, but I needed 11.5 in these) and have really enjoyed them! They are very comfortable for walking, plenty of space in the toes. However, at two months of light use (average of ~1 mile per day, just walking NEVER running) they are already showing signs of falling apart. For a $100+ shoe, I’d expect more longevity and high quality. As you can see in the pictures, there’s already a hole in the upper, the tread falling off by the toe (I had to superglue it back on), and a lot of wear on the soles. TLDR: While I like these shoes, I’m disappointed by the quality. ORIGINAL REVIEW Didn't get a chance to use them yet, as I order my normal size and it was too small. After googling, this seems to be normal - I would order a half size up! Even better, order a full size up as well to compare. ... show more

  • Very Uncomfortable and Different
Size: 8.5 Color: Majolica Blue
My first pair was from REI. Same make and model. I liked them so much I wanted the exact same pair again. Everyone that uses Altras knows they're incredibly comfortable but often fall apart prematurely. Well, these are NOTHING like my other pair. Incredibly uncomfortable and don't even feel they're the same materials. The tongue is stiff and cuts into my ankle. They don't have the same cushion. The base of the tongue toward the toes is rigid and painful. I guess that's what I get for ordering them here at half the cost. ... show more

  • Simply the most comfortable shoes especially people with foot issues
Size: 8.5 Color: Black
As a posterior tibula tendinitis suffer for 2 years there is no other running walking shoe even newer models from Altra just aren't as comfortable for me. I've now gone through 3 pairs of this model simply because I need the wide toe box and I actually just left walking 6 miles a day for the post office and these shoes are an enormous help! I hope Altra comes back to this model ... show more

  • Great shoe let down by quality control
Size: 9 Color: Black
Update #3: Altra replaced the replacement. I got a pair of Torin 6 to replace the used 5s they sent. All is good again. The Torin 6 is fantastic. Comfortable. No tongue issues. Good quality so far. Well done Altra CS. Update #2: the replacement pair they sent is used. No warning/expectation that they'd be sending a used pair of shoes. Update: Altra was quick to make things right and replace the shoes. Great customer service. I'll update stars if the quality if the 2nd pair is better. Love the shoes for comfort and fit. These are my second pair of Altras. First pair - Escalante 2.5 - are superb for shorter/middle distance and have held up great. I liked the Escalantes so much I also bought a pair of Lone Peak AWTs that have been good so far. The Torins, however, have started to fall apart less than 350 km in (220 miles). There's a hole that wore in the upper very early on, and now the sole a coming off in a few places (see pics). Very disappointed in the quality of these. ... show more
