  • Flawed tongue design (AVOID Torin 5 version)
Size: 10.5 Color: Majolica Blue
I'm really disappointed in this revision's tongue design (Torin 5). It's hard and sharp, and cut my ankle. Not like a blister though, it literally sliced into my ankle. I've never had this issue on the previous versions (<4.5) or any shoe ever. I'm wondering if the concept went straight from a sketch on a napkin and to into production with no testing, it's super uncomfortable. The rest of the shoe is fine. Skip it this go around and try to find a Torin 4.5. ... show more

  • Too much tongue
Size: 11.5 Color: Gray/Lime
The shoe itself is amazing, the tongue however is a major design flaw & makes this version literally unwearable. It digs right into the anterior aspect of the ankle.

  • Fantastic
Size: 9.5 Color: Majolica Blue
I have trained in every series of Torin's since their inception. Altra nailed it on number 5, best road shoe yet. Ride is comfortable and responsive. The shoe recoils from the surface perfectly for my body build, 5'9"@195lbs. I don't feel any deadness in foot strike at all. I like the mid shoe construction, much sturdier than previous builds without overkill. Laces are perfect length, if you are an avid Altra wearer you know previously they are notorious for generous lengths of shoe string. Footbox, again Altra nailed it. Runners with wider feet you will not be disappointed. A++++ ... show more

  • Fit small
Size: 9.5 Color: Gray/Lime
These are sized a bit small. Recommend a half size up from your ususal.

  • Really short laces
Size: 13 Color: Gray/Lime
Great shoes! The support, fit and comfort of these shoes is great. The only reason I do not give them 5 stars is that they have really short laces. You cannot loosen the laces up much beyond the way they arrive or you will not be able to tie them. I contacted the company and they did not have any that were longer in that color only black. Really disappointing since the rest of the shoe is fantastic! ... show more

  • Comfortable Shoe for Low Arch Feet
Size: 12 Color: Gray/Lime
I've never heard of Altra shoes much less owned a pair. The high price tag has always shied me away from any show over $100 unless they were work boots. Well, that all changed when I was shopping at a local Running Shoe Store and they had this computer gizmo there to measure your foot size and arch and then it recommended which shoes to try on. I tried on shoes from 5 brands, but it was the Altra Torin 5 that felt the most comfortable of them all. The New Balance 880 was a close second. They told me I had a low profile arch and these Altra shoes fit my foot profile and also had a very roomy toe bed area which they do. So far, I've only had them a short while and they seem very comfortable. I'm hoping they will last a good while and the comfort remains, but initially I'm very pleased and have left several pictures of them as well. They are a little tight to slip on if you tie them snug so keep that in mind too, but they slide off much eaiser. ... show more

  • Does not fit nearly as well as the Torin 4 did
Size: 11.5 Color: Tangerine
I've worn multiple pairs of Torin 4. They have fit well and been very comfortable. This Torin 5 (same size as the Torin 4) seems to be smaller and feels MUCH tighter than the Torin 4. I thought that Altra made these shoes to have wider toe boxes; definitely NOT the case for the Torin 5. Be careful if you liked previous versions of this shoe, it is not the same. I'll have to return this pair. ... show more

  • Not meeting the standard.
Size: 12.5 Color: Tangerine
Update: these shoes are falling apart. I can normally get about 600 miles out of a pair of altras before they are beat up enough that I stop wearing them. These stated breaking down before I got 100. I have a pair of Torin 4.5 with over 600 miles that are keeping it together better than these. I’m hoping it’s a one off, but there are multiple issues. In addition to them coming apart and wearing down quickly, there is a weird crease in one toe. There are definitely some quality control issues. This is probably my tenth pair of torin. Overall I’m impressed. I stopped having blisters. I love these shoes BUT the started binding the tongue in a way that makes it sharp. I cut around the binding when I get them out of the box. It has cut me or giving me a chaffing in the front of my ankle several times. Torin should certainly change this in future versions as it makes wearing these shoes with short socks a pain without modifying the shoe. The other issue with these is the laces are too short. For reference: the orange pair has less than 200 miles. The grey Torin 4.5 has over 600. ... show more
