I liked the LED clock look of the 4th generation, but the dot matrix display of the 5th makes a lot more sense in that it can display text/graphics as well. Granted it's a small display overall but it's nice to see the time, temp (with icon for the weather), song name, etc. Another nice upgrade is the temperature sensor in addition to the ultrasound motion sensor. This enables additional routines to be deployed, like adjusting your thermostat, turn a fan on/off, etc. After upgrading from a simple Dot, I set up routines to automatically turn a room's lights on and off when motion is detected, but only when it's dark out - and not past 11pm (bedtime). They also turn off again when no motion is detected. The sound is better over the prior generation; a hint more low-end and less tinny overall... Not Earth shattering by any means, but we'll take it. It's unfortunate that they removed the 3.5mm audio jack, but it's surely a pretty limited use-case.

I love this new 5th generation the clock is more visiblewith it's larger display speaker sounds better and I love the fact that Alexa can'tell me what the temperature is inside as well as outside.

I have an original dot and now the dot 5th generation. Easy to add and setup. Sound is fantastic and the clock is a GREAT addition to my study. Both new and old work in perfect sync.

The media could not be loaded. I just got the Echo Dot and I love it. The clock looks much better than the 4th Gen. I love being able to see words on the clock. I also like the tap and pause gesture.

So I recently upgraded my Amazon echo dot fourth generation to the fifth generation. My last echo was having so many issues alarms kept shutting off after two rings, and then starting up about nine minutes later, and even if they went off They would only play for two seconds. Iโve had my alarm just cancel without me even saying anything with my old Echo dot. my skills would not work. My routines would not work. I love the LED display on the echo. Dot fifth generation the sound is incredible. The way it displays the song titles is pretty cool Iโm glad they got rid of the headphone jack because to me it was useless so overall, I am loving the new fifth generation echo dot. So overall Iโm very happy with my purchase.
