My daughter wanted an echo dot for a while and that makes me pretty nervous. These are nice because Amazon made them with kids in mind. You get a lot of control over time of day, content, etc. I had an issue in the beginning where it would ignore my time restrictions. For example it was supposed to turn off at 9PM and at 11PM it would randomly be talking to my daughter and it freaked her out. I did a reset and reinstalled the iphone app and that fixed it. ... show more

My 3 year old kept messing with our Alexa. We got him this for Christmas and it’s his favorite gift to date. I love how it is filtered and keeps things age appropriate. He loves to listen to music on it… especially the clean up song while cleaning his room. Well worth the money but it really needs to have a base that “I had to purchase separately” to ensure my gift didn’t roll off the night stand. It’s my way to ensure the dot is stabilized.

I want to rate this fairly and I did not buy this for a child, but for my 50 year-old self because it was such a cute bird speaker, and it was on a black Friday sale at an excellent price. I appreciate the safety features if there was a child in the house but it is just my hubby and me and safety features are not needed. I wish there was a way to opt out of this for adult users, but I do understand the company trying to protect children. The reason for removing one star is not for the extra security, which would be needed with a child, but because it was a pain to set up and use. I had to invent a fake child as the user since it would not allow me to be the user, and then it locked up both of my Kindles with needing security codes I cannot turn off. Also it will not play any of the music I ask it to and we only listen to family friendly music. No matter what I ask it to play, it will only play the Disney radio station. So I have to go the extra steps to ask Alexa to play my choice of music on my phone and then have my phone play it on the speaker. If you have kids it is a 5 star device, but for me, it is a cute speaker that eventually does what it is supposed to, but I am glad I did not pay full price for it. ... show more

My 4 year old loves it. When she's in her room playing she listens to books being read to her. She also listens to music. The sound quality is great. Its easy to work, and she loves that it looks like a little owl. So gappy with this product.

Right out I'll say it's not a bombastic speaker but it was not meant to be that. It's awesome to interact with and very responsive with many options to explore other than music. The app needs to be a little more intuitive, but it's good enough and allows you to explore everything you can do with the echo. It came with a year subscription for kids+ which is awesome and my girls fire tab updated automatically.
