elastic in waistband twists easily

I ordered this velour tracksuit in a size large, which is my regular size, and it fits me. The material is a bit thinner than I would have preferred, but it is very stretchy and conforms to my curves comfortably. I’m only 5'4" and I was initially concerned about the length of the legs (they’re pretty long), but they are tapered at the ankle and don't pose any issues with going under my feet. The arms are also longer than I'm used to, but the stretchy fabric ensures that they don't fall off my wrist. The pants are very high waisted - about three inches above my belly button. So, it makes me feel like the pants are up to my armpits. My biggest issue with the tracksuit is the elastic on the waistband. The suit washes fine but, the elastic twists. I've found that I have to untwist it after every wash.
