I bought this costume to attend my class's Halloween party as Alexander Hamilton. Initially, I ordered a Small after measuring myself (I am 5'6", 125 lbs.), but the costume was way too big so I ordered an X-small and it fit much better (with a little room to spare). I paired it with my own pair of pants and steamed the waistcoat/vest combo. Although the item is a bit thin and runs large, if steamed and properly fitted, it looks very well made and is extremely comfortable to wear! Also, the color of the vest and parts is more of a cream than a whitish/tan like is depicted in the stock image. If you plan to get this costume, consider sizing down. I received many compliments on my outfit and even placed in the costume contest as a result! This makes for a quick, easy, and elegant looking founders costume! Really nice costume for the price. It fits great on my 6'5'' husband. He usually wears a L tall (and sometimes XL regular) but the XL (regular) size on this costume was perfect for him, not tight nor short. He usually wears tall size dress shirts because he needs extra sleeve length, but the ruffle at the end of the sleeve made it fit well for his extra arm length. The coat is long so it looked good on him. He is very happy with this purchase. He likes the light and cool polyester material, but it is NOT see through. He has a bit of a belly, but not too much, and the jacket is wider by getting a bigger size, and also it opens in the middle, so the fit looks very good and the belly is not visible. When ordering, if you are also tall person, I suggest getting a size larger, like we did, and then it fits perfect. Otherwise your normal size may be good. The vest is sewn, so you may need to have this into account if you have a big belly, though. We really recommend this costume!

My son wanted me to make him a Hamilton costume for Halloween with 3 days notice! Nope, not happening, but I found this on Amazon, and the reviews sounded promising. It smelled a little strange when we first opened it, but we hung it up and aired it out, and it worked great! It was comfortable and fit with a little room to spare (he is 5'9" and about 115 pounds - we got a small, even though extra-small was recommended, but he's fine with having it a little looser). He was so excited to wear it trick-or-treating with his little brother, and again at high school today for "Throw Back Thursday" day! The fabric isn't too stiff, but still holds it shape. Great details (buttons, etc.) The pants are a simple elastic waisted pant, the coat/shirt frontgoes on in one piece like a shirt, the cravat just connects with velcro like a collar, and the "boots" are just slip on fake fronts that you put on under your own pair of black shoes (he used his marching band shoes - jazz shoes or matte dress shoes would also work. It was hot and humid on Halloween, but he said the fabric wasn't overly hot.

My "Hamilton"-loving 12 year-old granddaughter desperately wanted to be the character John Laurens, who was Hamilton's best pal. The day that this package arrived, she squealed with delight, rushed in to try it on, and came from our guest room bursting into "Hamilton" songs! It is not the best made costume she's ever had, but her joy supersedes the quality of fabric (medium weight polyester), design (created for "quick change") and sewing skills. Like I say, this costume is not the best quality, but the "look" is just right! And finding it saved me immeasurable time at the fabric store and sitting at the sewing machine. The $40 price tag was well worth the ease on my own mind and time! Thank you California Costumes & Amazon!

This is a pretty good Halloween-quality costume. As noted in the description, the "vest" is just a panel attached to the coat. The one drawback of this is that it is tough to add a sash. That said, this costume instantly turned into George Washington by pinning on a medal and adding a gold sash (it took some effort to make the sash work, but it was worth it.) I was a bit disappointed when I pulled it form the bag. But once I put it on, it really worked. Even the boot covers were convincing when slipped over some regular black leather shoes. The costume definitely improves with some accessories like any sort of medals. Add a "tricorn" hat and your are good to go. Men's sizing was fine with the XL.

I wore this to see Hamilton and it was very comfortable- I tailored it a bit by upgrading the buttons and adding some stiffening fabric to the collar to make it stand up. I also purchased a different ruffled tie to give the costume a richer look. The guy I’m standing next to in the photo played Jefferson - This costume is a killer value for the price.

Its a cheap costume but a good looking cheap costume. If you're just wearing it out for one evening or one event, the cost is easier to justify than if you're planning on wearing for some theater production (I don't think that it would hold up for the long term). We had a few issues for the one night that we wore it- the straps that hold the boot uppers to your shoes both broke the first time we put them on and the collar has a tendency to flop over. I think if you had a decent sewing machine you could correct both issues (add some construction paper under the collar fold over and sew it in and provide a bit stronger seam on the boots. All in it was a good looking costume when you added in a powdered wig. You will need to have a nude / flesh or white colored dress shirt underneath the coat / vest combo to help avoid any warddrobe issues with the collar coming out of place.
