Description

This book is a comprehensive guide to using Blender to create character rigs for games, breaking down the technicalities of rigging tools and techniques into easily digestible chunks. It provides all the tools needed to go from a static character model to an animation-ready, high quality, and fast performing game rig. Written to be accessible and easy to follow, the book covers character rigging theory that is supported by industry standard examples of how to apply that theory to character rigs for video games. It demonstrates the reasoning behind rigging decisions followed by instructions and examples on how to apply that knowledge to rig creation. It includes chapters that focus on the character deformation techniques that raise the visual quality of the model and subsequently of the animation and game it will be used in. This book will be vital reading to those studying games animation as well as early-career rigging artists, character animators, modeling artists, technical animators, and technical artists. • A wonderful book for people looking into rigging
As someone using Blender since the 2.8 release, I've dabbled into rigging here and there. This book is an excellent guide for clarifying the entire rigging process! I would say it's definitely worth it if you want to level up your rigging skills! It was a good read.

  • Comprehensive & nice pictures
I like the chapters start with basics and is easy to follow and understand, a lot of examples with pictures. I'm surprised at how comprehensive it's like a blender user manual. As a <1 yr Blenderer, it's easy to understand & gives me fundamentals to build on. Thank you

  • Overall Good
It's a good book. Learned alot about the types of bones (int, def, def) and shows great techniques on weight painting. One minor nitpick was sometimes the text doesn't match the pictures. Ex. Text would say MCH-neck_rotation_isolation while the picture is MCH-rotation_isolation_neck. It was smooth to read until, ch 26. 'Ch 26 - body rig' chapter felt like it missing critical information for the arm and legs. For most of the book it would shows helpful bone hierarchy picture to reference but there was none for the legs/arms (which had a lot of bones ik, blend, tweak bones). It felt disjointed in the arm steps since the fk/ik/bbone steps was in a previous chapter. Making it so that you have to go back in order to go forward. It be nice if there were more pictures of the bone hierarchy / bone constraints or example of end rig in the supplemental material to compare with current progress. ... show more
