  • Gorgeous, spacious and lightweight Bearded Dragon enclosure
I had hemmed and hawed over this viv. We were initially going to get it for our 1.5yo female beardie, but then I got the great idea that we would build a fantasy themed dream viv. I know I could make something amazing but I work full time and have health issues. My boyfriend could do it but he is not the best craftsman and so... a few months later we had no new viv. I was just about to pull the trigger on this upgrade for her when we ended up finding a rescue beardie that just called to us and part of the adoption process was to ensure you had the proper knowledge and equipment for the animal, which included a 36x18 minimum tank. I knew I wanted bigger than that, as this is what my female has now, so I decided to just get the good one for the rescue right off the bat. This viv is pricey but it's fair, proportionally, compared to the commercially available glass tanks like (Exo Terra) that don't go as big as this Zen Habitat is. So first off, I love that this is on Amazon, which allowed me to get it on a 6mo payment plan. Secondly, the doors arrived dented and scratched, but there was no time to do a return/refund as we had already set up a good time to ship the rescue to our home (when there was no heatwave) and it wouldn't arrive before our rescue did. The owner of the company sent out new doors and I am so very grateful of that - and so is our rescued beardie who LOVES his new enclosure. Thank you! Pros: - Gorgeous: This viv looks modern and beautiful with brushed aluminum framing and golden bamboo siding. - Spacious: This is a great size for a beardie. I know you could always go bigger, but this really is a fantastic size. Plenty of space for habitat items, climbing and such so your beardie is happy. That said, I think that almost no matter what, you should be taking your beardie out daily for exercise, enrichment and attention. Also - space inside means you can suspend your UVB and heat IN the tank! This means better UVB for your animal's health and better efficiency for your heat lamps... - Efficient: So lighting IN the tank and bamboo siding = much more efficient than glass and lights on top of the tank. I first got extra 100w basking bulbs, then 75w and then finally a 50w bulb for this viv. It's summer and our house in the high desert is hot now. I do have to change wattage by season but I was using 100w bulbs in the Exo Terra 36x18. This means you can save energy! And for people with colder climates, this means you will be fighting less to keep good heat. - Lightweight: I can barely move the Exo Terra our female beardie is in. Like the boyfriend has to pick it up if it needs actual moving, and I have trouble shifting it a smidge to even put a lamp stand under the corner. Yes, I am a little wimpy, but that doesn't mean you may not also like the light airy Zen Habitats enclosure! It is so light that I can lift it by myself EASILY when it is empty. When it had some items I could still easily shift it on the stand we are using. Now it's literally full of small granite boulders and weighs a ton but that is due to those rocks, not the materials of the hab itself. Simple setup: I could have done it myself, easy peasy, but the boyfriend helped and it was put together in a snap. If you mess up you can take it apart. I assume this means simple dismantling? Which would be good for people on the move or worried about having to move it down the line. Flexible Lighting: The bars on the top with the screen make it easy to set up lights how you want them. You can use brackets, cables, etc. I slid a thin wood slat between them and suspended one light by its cord over where I wanted the basking spot. For my UVB tube lamp, I used some pliant wrapped cables I ordered that were for the wrong phone and didn't notice until it was too late to return them. I also noted that while the screen is pretty dense Cons: - Part of me misses swing open doors as that really opens up the viv and lets you move things most easily. - The bamboo siding is thin. The con of the lightweight material is that to be so light it is thin. Don't think many people go punching their vivs, but uh, don't punch this one okay? It cannot take it. - The acrylic doors can scratch easily. Maybe you can order more if you want them? This is another material which is lighter than glass. - The bamboo siding is not waterproof. The review that says it is raw melamine is a little misleading as melamine is the plasticky laminate material itself, and raw melamine would be 100% waterproof. Also I don't think this is melamine at all. It's bamboo laminate (could possibly be a super thin layer of melamine coating on the top of the bamboo but I am not certain) over some particle board type substance, and yes, the edges are raw. This is not supposed to be a humid viv. It was designed for beardies in particular. It is stated that it is not for humid vivs. That said you can do things to make this more humidity-resistant: seal the edges of the boards, coat the boards, seal the interior with silicone aquarium sealant, etc. I still wouldn't use this for a tropical viv, but it could extend the life of the product if you are in a more humid region, if you think you won't be cleaning up your pet's messes often, if you are going to go bio-active, etc. Bottom line: I love love love this viv. It's exactly what we needed. It's beautiful. Our lizard is very pleased with his new territory. He is recovering from obesity and MBD, which makes him a bit less mobile than other beardies, but he has a lot of space to climb on the rocks and logs we set up for him and this enclosure with the good UVB right in there at optimal distance with no screening is gonna do him some real good over time. It warms my heart to see him so happy, and as soon as they get more vivs in stock (in September I believe), I will be ordering one for our little girl, too. I absolutely recommend this enclosure for beardies. Just make sure you read the cons to be sure you understand what you are getting here. That said, I think this is an enclosure that will thrill most beardie owners and their sweet scaley charges. Best of luck! Update 01/18/2020: Two big bits of news, longer term thoughts, suggestions, etc. We got a second habitat for our other Dragon and stacked them with the spacers. It looks wonderful. The little are enjoying their spacious enclosures. There is so much room for a hide, for climbing rocks and love to run across and back from. The heat retains well. The lighting being suspended inside also makes the UVB exposure better. Our rescue Dragon is thriving and our younger Dragon raised from scratch is peppier than ever. I want to get the cabinet for under to lift the lower enclosure sometime soon! We moved before we got the second viv. These are easy to put together but as easy to take apart. We dismantled the habitat and later if flat in my sub compact car and drive 1000+ miles. Only issue is the acrylic doors must've had dust between them and they got real scratched. That's part our fault as we should've been more careful. We packed and taped them together but the dust and minute movements back and forth on the long drive caused scuffing. I wish they were coated with a scratch resistant layer? I know the need for the material and appreciate it's lightness but it's drawback is scratching. Wishes: The scratch resistant layer on the doors, option to have hinged doors and... I would love if the panels came in more colors. You could even buy new panel sets and change them out. The set up breakdown is that easy. I would love rustic barn wood if given the choice, to go with the finishes in our home. Final thoughts: I love these, and I highly recommend these! Your reptile will be so happy! They are easy to install/dismantle and clean. Get a mat (the name brand one works well and seems better now with greater grip since I bought a second one). I use small pet safe wipes, and I have a tiny hand broom with dustpan and sometimes I vacuum clean. Mat makes cleaning so easy as a light spraydown with reptile safe cleansers is easypeasy and it keeps the wood safe. Just don't overdo it! ... show more

  • Nice size without the weight of glass
Packed well and assembled quickly. Like the space without added weight of glass. Mounting bars are sturdy but 3 spaced out would give more options especially with trying to overlap UVB and heat as recommended for a beardie. Panels a bit flimsy and rattle so a tighter fit would help. Like the front sliding doors vs reaching in overhead. Scratch easily but that’s a given with plexi. I expected more for the price but still a good option without hassle of building your own. Got the liner also. Fits perfectly and great for clean up under his tiles. ... show more

  • Decent
Easy to assemble, It’s nice and light, and it’s pretty. The plexiglass doesn’t hold up well. After having it for a few years now it’s really Dingy now, foggy and scratched up. The top screen has bowed a little under my hot lights but overall I’d say it’s a decent enclosure. I spent about $530 at the time of my purchase and I don’t think it’s worth that. ... show more

  • AMAZING Purchase!
Really happy with this purchase. Our 6 m/o beardie, Abraham, loves his new enclosure! We made the transition from a 40-gallon enclosure - and this bad boy is ROOMY. Abraham spent about ~10 minutes running around the space as if to tell us how much he loved all of the new, extra space to chase crickets. The enclosure came quick, and was (relatively) easy to assemble. A simple, but really elegant design. We were looking for an enclosure that had a bit more 'style' - as Abraham lives in our living room - and we were really sold on the beautiful bamboo paneling. Looks great in our space. Pros: 1. Beautiful design 2. HUGE - lots of room for your adult beardie 3. Awesome ceiling supports to hang lights 4. Easy to assemble 5. Plexiglass is less reflective than glass - our beardie can't see his own reflection anymore (which used to startle him) 6. Wood retains heat better than glass Cons: 1. Our left door knob is a little wonky - despite tightening it all the way, it's still loose. Small detail - really doesn't matter. ... show more

  • Bought $600, $300 wouldn’t make it better
Bought this thing on amazon and it was being sold for almost $600 when on the website and now here its half, the product was in no way worth $600. The door has to be fought with to close properly, the terrarium itself has these shoddy corners that I have to push back together periodically, and the design of the interior is awful due to the sides metal part that partially keeps it together protruding out so placing carpet or even some terrain becomes a pain which leaves an ugly gap between it and the terrarium wall, which with certain faster more lively food it becomes a perfectly irritating hideaway, which is doubly true for the carpets not going flat because of these metal protrusions causing an entire unwanted colony of bugs to stowaway beneath the carpet. Not only does the siding grant bugs great escape routes but it prevents my lizard from being able to fully lay on top of their basking cave since if she does go fully ontop of it then she just ends up partially falling through . Overall this product was definitely not worth $600 and even $300 is a steep pricey for something with so many nagging annoyances. ... show more

  • Good product
Nice upgrade from the 40 gallon breeder tank I had my bearded dragon in. I don’t like the acrylic doors too much and noticed they already cracked at the handles. You have to be very careful when opening that the handle does not bang (even slightly) against the other handle when the door slides or you will have a crack like I do…. Sucks it happened on the first day and it drives me crazy. Other than that it is a good size and quality. ... show more
