My use for this item is not the usual one of having a head of hair on which to practice hair styling and cosmetology. Over the past several years, I have taken numerous photographs with many different cameras. Many of those pictures were taken to test various features of the cameras, including focus, exposure, and face detection. Having a realistic artificial head to use as a photography subject is very helpful for taking those shots. So, I evaluated this mannequin head partly as a subject for my purposes, though I also tried to evaluate its usefulness for its intended purpose. The package I received included a somewhat rubbery feeling female mannequin head with a very full head of long brown hair. The package also included a large plastic comb, several large hair clips, a bag of small rubber bands to hold bunches of hair, and a couple of long items that I could not identify. There was also included a clamping stand, which lets you clamp the head to a table and then move the head around on a ball joint. The stand and clamp are made of plastic except for the adjustment bolt, but the system works well to hold the head very firmly while you comb the hair or do other actions with the head. The head can also stand flat on a table without the stand, but then you would not be able to comb the hair very effectively, because the head would not be firmly anchored. For my purposes as a photography prop, the mannequin head worked well. My camera detected it as a human face and focused on one of the eyes. This head would be quite useful for anyone practicing various aspects of photography, including lighting, focus and other areas. For hair styling, I don’t have any experience in that field, but the hair did seem quite realistic to me. The hair is firmly attached to the head, so it should not be a problem to comb it vigorously and engage in various types of styling. Overall, for the relatively low price being charged, I recommend this mannequin head as a useful item.

I didn’t get this mannequin head to practice hair (trust me, braiding is about as far as my skills go). Instead, she’s clamped to one of my monitor arms and has fully taken on a new role as office décor. Right now, she’s rocking a rose gold beret and glasses, and honestly, she pulls it off better than most of us could. She makes me laugh every time I glance over, and she’s perfect for a little body-doubling energy while I’m working from home. Who knew a cosmetology mannequin would end up being my desk buddy?

Good styling head for beginner use but the hair is not as high quality as other products available. The hair curls easily but it is very thick and tends to tangle faster than the other styling mannequin we have. It works well for practicing curls and my daughter uses it to practice french braids. The stand and clamp are sturdy and it held in place when clamped to the edge of the counter or table. The included comb was not useful on the thick hair but she did find the clips to be helpful when practicing sectioning the hair. She has also used the mannequin to practice eye makeup and it wipes clean when she is done. The price point seems reasonable for a beginner to use but a more experienced student may find the hair a bit thick and coarse if you are looking to practice on hair that is closer to human texture.

I’ve been behind the chair for almost 20years. I’ve seen my fair share of mannequins. While I know you get what you pay for, I needed a quick option to reacquaint myself with updos. This mannequin does have a lot of hair (I needed one with THICK hair) it is more synthetic than real. It does not hold curl. It does not hold pins. She’s basically good for brushing and judgment stares.

I purchased one of these for my daughter as a Christmas gift and decided to order this one for myself to practice French braiding. The hair does shed but I feel like they probably all do as did my daughter’s as well. This is very easy to use and you can use hair tools but be warned that using heat will change the texture. Overall great product for practice.
