My grandfather's sword has been in my father's closet for quite some time. He is getting older and brought it down to me a few months back to possess as a family heirloom. As I get older myself, I began to realize the significance of this sword not only to myself but our country as a whole. This sword was brought back from the Pacific campaign that occurred during WWII. I wish I knew how my grandfather obtained this sword and can only speculate it's significance to him. He was a Marine and fought on the various islands in the Pacific campaign, with Guam being one I remember he mentioned. I have been told this is a Japanese Officer's Sword and am not sure how to tell anymore details other than that. The case itself is very nice. It has a felt lined back and the wood supports (loose not fastened to the case) work well to hold the sword. I put velcro on the bottom of the sword supports to hold them in place. I also ordered a marine badge and a plaque with my grandfather's name, rank, and WWII to place in the case as well. I put velcro on the backs of the plaque and the badge and both have held up great over the last couple months. I also added some push button lights on the button that are remote controlled to add a little ambience at night. I bought this for my very expensive handmade katana. This is an excellent choice for most swords, or collectables. The quality is outstanding and the hooks already came preinstalled. I did make some modifications. The first very annoying issue was to fix the stand holders. They did not come with any protective velvet so I ordered some with the adhesive already on it, then I just cut them to size (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081GW4B99?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 ). For the katana blade itself I made it three layers thick since it is made of rare Tamahagane steel and is razor sharp. You would not typically store a katana this way, but I wanted to show off the engravings and the dragon which is only seen on was side of the fuchi when holding the tsuka (handle). For the second mod I added LED lights in the top of the case from Home Deploy which are color changing and comes with a remote. ... show more

Craftsmanship is decent for the money with a gloss walnut veneer, but it is missing very thing I purchased it for over the others…a keyed tumbler lock in the center of the cabinet, plainly visible in the ad on Amazon! It has the cosmetic golden colored thin metal clasps which have “locks” in their center, but could be pulled open by anyone determined to do so with a screwdriver.
