  • Very pretty stone-I researched what a "crushed ice" diamond is
Style: Rectangular Ring Size: 6
The media could not be loaded. I did wonder, "What the heck is a crushed ice diamond?" So, I looked it up. Turns out, it's a cushion cut diamond that has extra, very tiny facets, cut at the bottom of it to create more light reflection. Because there are so many facets, you can't tell where the light is refelcting from (as in a traditionally cut stone-you can look into it and see the individual facets and you can tell how the light is reflecting in the stone). Because of the extra tiny facets, when you look into the stone, it appears to be shattered or have a similar appearance to crushed ice. It gives the stone more sparkle and color but not everyone loves the look of the stone. It's really personal preference. I tried to show the stone to it's best advantage in the pics and the video but I don't think I really did it justice. It's a very beautiful little ring and I, personally, do like the look of the crushed ice effect. In a few of the pics, it appears a little yellow but that is just the lighting and my amateur photography! There is no yellow in the stone. You can probably get the best idea of the crushed ice effect from the video, about midway through. This is a dainty, pretty ring. I would probably like it better without the halo around the stone. I prefer diamonds to sit solitarily so they can show off a little! Still, this is an eye catching ring that sparkles and shines happily on one's finger. It's a pleasure to wear it. It's not a giant ring that makes one question it's integrity. It's a ring that others will admire and will presume is the real deal because it's not ostentatious. And, I should mention that it arrives in a nifty lighted box! A very nice ring at a very nice price! ... show more

  • Beautifully sparkling ring with a man-made stone
Style: Round-shaped Ring Size: 8
This is a lovely ring with a pretty sparkle, particularly from the tiny outer stones. It looks gorgeous, especially in sunlight. My one teeny gripe is that I think taking the stones down the side of the ring detracts from the elegance. A simple silver band would make the ring just a little more classy. Although the center stone is supposedly a diamond (more on that below), nothing has been stated about the smaller stones - are they cubic zirconia or more crushed ice diamonds? There is a bit of bait-and-switch here (hence one star removed). These "crushed ice diamonds" are laboratory-made and, as such, are not diamonds. The very last bullet point (which I missed at order time) states "these crushed ice diamonds are composed of a new material that is different from moissanite and cubic zirconia". Both the latter are created in labs and closely mimic real diamonds, but are not natural gem stones; ironically, they often have more fire and sparkle than a genuine diamond. So I think this is a new substance that lends itself well to a particular cut, called a crushed ice cushion cut, using lots of small facets. Be aware that, as this is not a real diamond, it may not be as hard and should be treated with a bit more care than real diamonds. Unfortunately the product page does not give directions for care and cleaning, so I shall not be cleaning my ring in my ultrasonic cleaner - just to be safe. There were just too many things that made me wonder about the stones used in this ring (apart from no certificate and the price), so I started doing some research. Crushed ice diamonds are not a type of gemstone, they are diamonds subjected to a particular cut. The "diamond" in this ring is certainly colorless - graded D (or pretty close to colorless, as decerned by my untrained eye), but I could not believe that it would also be only very, very slightly included (VVS1). One of the reasons that a crushed-ice cushion cut could be used on a diamond is to hide the inclusions and flaws. Crushed-ice cut diamonds, in a silver setting, can easily get away with a color of H. Additionally, real diamonds are not set in silver (even gold-plated silver) as silver is a very soft metal and the setting may not be safe. Depending on the process used to create these stones, it is possible for that the quality and color may vary, hence the grading system. As these stones were classified using the diamond grading system and at the time of ordering I knew nothing about crushed ice diamonds, I thought these may be real diamond chips fused together and that the price was knocked down as an introductory offer. I now know better and hopefully this information will be useful for you to make an informed decision as to whether you would like this ring. For the price, it is a beautiful ring and closely resembles the real thing - with, perhaps, just a bit more sparkle than real diamonds.
