    • Nice beginner telescope
This telescope would be nice for someone without a large budget to spend on a telescope and is a beginner. I found it pretty easy to use, but dont expect much from it in regards to magnification. I do love that it comes with a storage/carry bag.

The Tuword Pro 400/70 FMC Refractor Telescope (F40070M) is a great beginner's telescope. For me, it's a nice step up from the birding binoculars I've been trying to use to look at the night sky. The stability of a tripod plus the higher magnification will make both my birding and astronomical observation activities more fun as I find that holding the binoculars for any length of time is tiring. This is a very nice combination of useful gear. You not only get the telescope and it's finderscope, but also receive two eyepieces (25mm and 6mm), a light weight aluminum tripod, and a backpack that holds it all. The directions for assembling and using the telescope are very thorough. If you are someone like me who only loosely follows instructions, it does help to follow all the steps. Most especially believe the step that says it's best to test the device outside. I wasn't having success at focusing at objects inside the house. Apparently, I needed to be outside because the focuser knob had to be cranked more than I thought. I didn't know until I was out on the patio and pointed it at telephone poles in the distance. It was much better "target practice" pointing it at distant objects! As the directions said, I started assembly with the 25mm eyepiece which has the wider field. As they describe it, the higher power 6mm can be swapped into place when you are viewing an object in the night sky with the 25mm that you want to make a bit bigger but the magnification using the 6mm will mean the object will not be as bright. So far, I have been fine with the 25mm. My only quibble is with the tripod. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to have a light weight tripod included. But do note that it doesn't go super high. At maximum height I measure the eyepiece is exactly 4 feet high. That's maybe an inch lower than I would like and I'm not super tall (5' 7") so this might mean a backache at the end of the night for someone taller than me. It's also not the most fluid head and takes practice to adjust angles. Just thought the tall people out there should know. Tripod works for me but your mileage may vary. Overall, this is a great starter telescope that will provide entertainment for anyone starting a new birding or astronomy hobby. ... show more

This is a wonderful portable telescope for beginners. Made of durable high-quality material and affordably priced. I love the included adjustable tripod. My only complaint is that it could be a little taller, so that you don’t have to crouch over or squat down to peer into the lens. Set up is super easy and quick. Manual instructions are very easy to read. Telescope is very user-friendly. Not exactly high quality for the price, but again it is great as a starter telescope. Love that the portable backpack has a spot for everything, as well as a Velcro strap to hold all the pieces in place when not in use. Will be storing this in my vehicle for easy reach on any stargazing night. Overall, happy with my purchase & highly recommend. Would make a wonderful gift in the upcoming holiday season. ... show more

Your budding astronomer will have a blast with this telescope and while they won't be spotting the moons of Jupiter with it, they can probably pick out the big planet and can certainly perfect their tracking skills on the moon and other planets. Having a dedicated backpack is an added bonus!

    • Good But Could Be Better
This is a very nice telescope I wanted to get one because me and my husband wanted to start doing more star gazing its always interested me but needed one of these for each of us. We now have 2 and we planned out the time lines for meteor showers as well. I can't say this is top of the line but for the price and for a beginner one like we needed its perfect. The tripod makes things a little weird if you try to stand up with it but we use it sitting on the steps but know it doesn't get real tall sadly. The tripod is the only thing I see that would put people off on it but it still worked good for us. ... show more

    • How do you put it together?
Very poor directions on assembling. Bought it for my sister who is mechanically inclined. Neither one of us can figure out how to do it. Horrible instructions.

    • Solid Beginner Telescope
If you are expecting a high quality telescope, this is not it, but it is a solid beginner telescope. The tripod is really good and highly adjustable. It comes with everything you need, including a backpack to carry it with.
