Hockey’s bad boy needs to clean up his reputation…Bennett James has built his career at being the best, on and off the ice, and now it’s come back to bite him. • Fake Dating is quickly becoming my new comfort read trope.
“Bennett James—hockey player and Sour Patch addict.” I take his hand, stifling a laugh. “Grace Wentworth—aspiring stylist and chocoholic.” These two are too adorable for words. Bennett is a big kid at heart trying to make up for his recently troubled ways and keep the things that matters most to him..hockey. Grace is just the girl to help him do that and the way they come to their new terms is a sweet cherry on top of a delicious sundae that is this book. Grab a spoon and dive in. The last 10% of the book hit me way harder than I was prepared for!! Twists like that shouldn’t happen for the sake of my sanity. I was in bed reading next to my hubby who was asleep and actually screamed Nooooo out loud and startled him awake. **sorry babe but this ending came out of no where*** Read it and your heart will stumble too as you process. This book gave us all the good stuff. We had fake dating, hockey romance all with a strong player as the MMC. Oh and we can't forget the cliche 'good girl wants to be bad and bad boy wants to be good'. ... show more

  • A+
Finally a book to take me out of my reading funk! I’ve read several of Micalea’s books, though not all of them yet. And the vast majority are great! This is the same! We get the whole fake relationship trope that is done so well and then watch as their relationship just simply blossoms. Grace and Bennett are just one of those couples that makes each other better. They take each other out of their comfort zone and helps each other grow. My next favorite thing in this book is Grace’s relationship with Elle. Complete opposites. But I loved reading how they interact with each other. ... show more

  • Sweet Sports Romance
You will love this book if you like ✔Fake dating trope ✔ Sports romance with a sweet innocent and a superstar who has a history of one night stands ✔ like Elle Kennedy The Deal , Meagan Brandy Say You Swear , and Mariana Zapata slow burn. So we had a good girl who wanted to be bad ..and a boy who is smitten and fell first even if if took him time to admit it. I would have liked a bigger ending , a little more with the FMC .. she was sweet and pretty but asside from standing up for her roommate in the beginning, there was nothing that made her unique. She became Bennett's girlfriend..If there hadnt been a HEA and he was traded and how did he get in to the all girl dorm at night without an RA making him leave? Cute story / Spice 🌶 just a NA level above Young adult. ... show more

  • Such a great fun and flirty hockey romance!
Oh Bennett and Grace. Gosh their relationship is the hurts your teeth kind of sweet just like those sour patch kids :) I loved how they started with this super l fun meet cute that turned into some fake dating which always turns into real dating. Their back and forth banter was the perfect playfulness with sarcasm and some seriousness in there too. Their whole relationship was just down right adorable and talk about a slow burn. Whew. That tension between them was thiccccc. I think where I got lost a bit was the plot with the coach. There was so much about their love story that you only got hints of the real drama of it all and then all of a sudden it all explodes at the 90% mark. Maybe it’s just me being salty cause I didn’t see it coming but still. Either way the whole story was fun and flirty and oh so yummy too. ... show more

  • Just so/so...
There were many aspects of this book like I found enjoyable. I always love going back to catch up with characters from other books. Grace and Bennet were, for the most part, a lot of fun. Grace just wanted to find her way, away from her over protective father and brothers and Bennet was trying to save his hockey career. The beginning and middle of the story were good and kept my attention. Grace was trying to save Bennet's reputation and Bennet was trying to help Grace to be a little "bad". It was all harmless fun, until a scene where they dine and dash at a diner- sorry, as a former server, that was not even a little bit funny. I kept expecting Bennet to say that he had actually left money for the bill, but that never happened. Then, everything that happened following the annual Wentworth New Year's Eve party was just a mess that, to me, entirely ruined any good in the story. It felt rushed, it was a poor story line, Bennet wanted Grace to forgive him, when he did nothing that needed forgiveness and honestly, she should have been on her knees begging for his forgiveness. In short, it was a terrible ending and I know Micaela Smeltzer can do better than this. I've noticed that she is cranking out books pretty quickly and I never trust when authors do this- the stories are never the quality you get when they take their time. This may be one more author that I will choose not to continue reading... ... show more

  • Sweet Fake Relationship College Romance
The Game Plan by Micalea Smeltzer is a fake dating hockey romance. Bennet is a professional hockey player who recently had an injury and a public image problem. He's known for being a bad boy and a bit of a playboy. So Bennet decides to go back to the college he played at before he turned pro and have his old coach help him get back to playing the game he loves. Grace is a college freshman and new to the area, wanting to move away from her protective and over-bearing brothers and father. Bennet and Grace have a random meeting and see each other a few times on campus, Grace having no clue who Bennet is at first. They slowly start to become friends, each of them fighting an attraction to the other. When some photos get out of them that look like Bennet is back to his playboy ways, he convinces Grace to be his girlfriend to help his image. I really enjoyed this story. It was a little slow to start for me and there are a few typos but it's a good read and I enjoyed it. ... show more
