  • Good complete Foundation series set.
It was as advertised, the complete 7 book foundation series. Not sure what else to say in a review of paperback books other than perhaps listing of series order and other relevant books The original 3 book trilogy: Foundation, Foundation and Empire, Second Foundation 2 books preceding the trilogy, centered on Hari Seldon and events leading up to psychohistory's perfection: Prelude to Foundation, Forward the Foundation 2 books following the trilogy and completing the epic: Foundation's Edge, Foundation and Earth. For those who have never read them, it's helpful to read Asimov's Robot novels: The Complete Robot (or I, Robot which is not quite as complete as The Complete Robot, but close) The Caves of Steel The Naked Sun The Robots of Dawn and his Empire Novels: The Currents of Space The Stars like Dust Pebble in the Sky They have places, beings and events that help fill in some background for the Foundation series, especially the last 2. ... show more

  • Great editions
I originally bought a $4 omnibus edition of the original Foundation trilogy but was sorely disappointed. It was riddled with typos and layout mistakes. I assumed the books weren't written that way, so I ordered this set. I only received these this morning so I can't speak to how well the binding will hold up, but they feel pretty standard so I'm not worried. They were securely packaged in thick well-sealed plastic. A lot of my boxes arrive damaged and, rarely, damp, but the plastic would've stood up to water and it prevented the books from shifting around and sustaining damage. I won't reveal any plot points but the narrative structure definitely bears some remarks. The short version is I was absolutely floored by the first book. There are a million excellent reasons Foundation is given so many accolades. I've only read the first book in its entirety so far. It's a series of interconnected short stories though it has an axis the whole thing revolves around. There isn't a contiguous narrative per se. I'm a big fan of Brandon Sanderson and his body of work has some interesting parallels in this regard. His series tend to follow more chronologically contiguous arcs but are often interspersed with the sort of one-off character vignettes not unlike Asimov's original short stories. It was disconcerting at first to move through the timeline like that, but his style very clearly draws threads from the very beginning of the book to the end. I devoured the first book in under ten hours, which were some of the most captivating I've had recently. The world Asimov has built is reminiscent of Dune but is much harder science fiction. Not to mention, it's easier and quicker to consume. I'm going backwards to read Prelude to Foundation before I move on to Foundation and Empire. If you, like me, started with Foundation, you won't have any trouble understanding what's going on. After all, Foundation was published first. So far, reading them out of chronological order isn't a problem. ... show more

  • If you like Asimov you should buy the whole Foundation series
It was great to buy all the books at once. I am going to first read them in the order they were written but plan to go back and re-read them in chronological order. If you are familiar with Asimov's writing you also know he moves fast through a story. The fact he wrote hundreds of books may have something to do with his story style. If you have no idea who Asimov is as a person I would recommend reading the Roving Mind before reading any of his other books. The only downside is that fonts vary from book to book in a couple of cases. Not a big deal but some may find the print small in at least one of the books. ... show more

  • This is THE Science Fiction book
If you think you like Sci-Fi, you have to read the Foundation Series. I suggest reading in the order of the "universe" of the series, and not in the order they were published. If you think you don't like Sci-Fi, you should still read this series. Read it like an assignment - skip over things that don't make sense. You'll get the hang of it and become engaged. This is a part of American History, of World History. ... show more

  • Great Series
I read these all as a teenager and they are still great, rereading this series was like visiting an old friend. I am encouraging my Grandson to read them.

  • Not a matching set
Look, the series is fantastic, and one version has more or less the same content as the others. However, I made this purchase of all seven at the same time in order to get a matching set for my personal library. As you can see in my photo, two of the seven are from Del Rey instead of Bantam Spectra, which is pictured in the listing for all seven. I’m not going to return them or anything, but my attempt for aesthetic continuity has been thwarted because the photo on the listing was inaccurate. I’ll live (first world problems and all), but the seller loses a star for this. ... show more

  • They're sooooo new!
I mean what can you say, they're books.....BUT, they're awesome! So new, so fresh, so inviting! Yes, the movie is coming out on Apple, and I'm finally gonna get a chance to read all 7 books and be a snob and critique the movie once it comes out! I haven't been this excited since I read Dune before it came out! About the books...well, they were wrapped up tight, and bubble-wrapped, no tears, no wear, no notes in the columns. I'm also especially excited because I tried buying them USED at 1/2 price books and they sucked. I was only able to get one, and not in order, it was horrendous trying to find all seven books at every bookstore across the city! Horrible experience and such difficult work...At Amazon I got them all at once and they're mine~! Yay! ... show more

  • Great Books to Read, but Beware of Damaged Titles
Great books, and what appeared to be good packaging, but upon opening some of the books had considerable bending and damage to the covers. While this does not effect the overall use of the book, it remains an aesthetic eye sore that I would not expect of "NEW" books. Now, while I agree some things happen in transit and can damage items, but the books that were damaged were the books on the very inside of a set of 7 books that were then tightly packaged with plastic, leading to the realization that the books were packaged with the damage already done. ... show more
