  • Not bad for home use
Color: wooden/black
This is a nice xylophone for home practice. It did arrive damaged. Almost every peg was bent, but it was easy fixed. The mallets are a joke, so if you buy this, get some good mallets. All in all...worth the money.

  • Wonderful for a mid level learner.
Color: wooden/black
Bought this for my daughter as a birthday gift. It is perfect. She loves it. It looks exactly as it does in the photo and comes with that carrying case and one set of mallets. The mallets that come with it are hard but work well. The sound is great and the stand is sturdy enough for a 12 year old and 10 year old. It arrived on time and in good working order. I also purchased the Mike Balter BB2 series medium Keyboard yarn mallets for a less sharp sound during practice. We had no issues with tuning or bent pegs or anything. I was not fond of the shipping box. It offered very little protection and thin enough to be torn in places when it arrived. I can understand how some folks found that theirs was damaged in shipping. ... show more

  • Realistic
Color: wooden/black
It is what it is. I got this for my daughter for school band as a substitute for renting a practice marimba. It does that job well. Yes the mallets that come with this are cheap throw away trash. Odds are if your buying this though you either already have a good pair of Marimba mallets or are buying them. Different schools will want different Sticks & Mallets so even if they packed halfway decent mallets your still going to have to buy a good pair anyways. One thing of note, this is tuned to A=442 instead of standard A=440. My daughter said that all their mallet percussion is tuned to 442. I have a WW background and I know we tuned to 440, so I don't know if that's the norm or not. Either way as a PRACTICE instrument it wouldn't matter, but would be something to note if you were wanting to use it to pitch tune other instruments. All in all, it beats renting (since it can be resold) and even practice marimbas are around $1000 or more. ... show more

  • Adequate starter xylophone
Color: wooden/black
Definitely a "student model." The tone in the lowest octave is nice and warm, second octave tone is decent, but the third octave leaves much to be desired. When I play it with the included mallets, it's too shrill for my liking. (I prefer Balter Basics rubber mallets.) But since I want something to practice on, and can't afford to spend 800+ bucks, I'm keeping it for now. ... show more

  • Inadequate packaging. Damaged.
Color: wooden/black
Packaging was woefully inadequate. Bent metal stand, broken wooden frame, mallet broken in two, metal pegs that hold keys in place were mostly bent over. Had to use a screwdriver to pry them back into an upright position. Needed this quickly for my daughter to practice on at home, otherwise I would have returned it. Definitely a practice instrument, adequate as such. ... show more

  • good starter instrument.
Color: wooden/black
when it arrived, without any manual or instructions, it sounded very harsh. Over time the sounds has gotten closer to what I thought it should be. It arrive packed in a well designed case in a large corrugated carton. I think the set of mallets is too hard but in trying to call the store on a Saturday, they are closed and I couldn't leave a message. I would rate receiving a musical instrument without instructions for tuning or maintenance and being unable to even leave a message to purchase different mallets, as having room for improvement. this is my first zylophone/marimba and I like the instrument but need more info and better mallets for the sound I want. ... show more
