Description

Spode Blue Italian was made possible by Josiah Spode's perfection of blue under-glaze printing in 1784.This collection is a tapestry of blue scene's and figure's. Today we have an extensive collection of microwave and dishwasher safe dinnerware, giftware and accessories. This pattern also includes several oven to table items. The 9oz Creamer is also great for sauce and syrup. Continuously produced in England since 1816, the Blue Italian pattern from Spode will easily find a home on a casual or more formal table. Utilizing an underglaze printing process created by Josiah Spode and still employed today, varying shades of blue and white make up the lovely design, adding a 3-dimensional depth to each piece. Measuring 2-1/2 inches wide and 4-1/2 inches from handle to spout, this Blue Italian 9-ounce creamer stands 4-1/4 inches high and is the perfect complement to the matching teapot, coffeepot, teacup, and sugar bowl. Based upon a late 17th Century drawing, the central design depicts classic Italian ruins in a pastoral setting and decorates the small, rounded bowl of the pitcher. An 18th Century Chinese-inspired floral motif adorns the lip of the vessel as well as the ornate handle. Crafted from Spode's high-quality earthenware, known as Imperialware, this creamer can safely be placed in the microwave or dishwasher. --Lea Werbel

  • Blue and White Person
I love this pattern and have for years. I decided to purchase the creamer, sugar bowl , teapot and 4 cups and saucers to start my collection. This is elegant and can be both formal and casual. The price from Amazon is great.

  • Color Doesn't Match Other Pieces
UPDATE: I ordered this directly from Portmeirion (the maker of Spode) to replace the 0ff-color one I bought on Amazon. The replacement directly from Portmeirion exactly matched the body color of the rest of the tea service (not the case with the one I bought on Amazon). ORIGINAL REVIEW: I received this today (February 27, 2020). It seems like an authentic piece and is marked with Portmeirion, Spode, and Made in England, but it's clearly a second. The entire body color simply doesn't match any of the other pieces. Whereas those pieces are clearly white, and the same pattern pieces that come from China are just a tad more gray, this, right next to the other pieces of the tea set, is a cream color with a hint of both yellow and pink in it. It seemed A LITTLE off inside, bt I bought this set to use in the garden (the blue looks best against the green of lawns and boxwood hedges). Bottom line, I paid for this and will not be able to use it, and now I'll only replace it with Spode directly so I can be sure I'm getting first quality from current production. I believe this is authentic and is old stock seconds from just after Portmeirion moved production back from China to the UK after they bought Spode. Mine says made in England but simply doesn't match. No more bying Spode on Amazon for me. The prices are too low for these to be first quality, and while the tea pot seems okay (I can't find any obvious flaws yet), the saucers to the cups had bumps underneath where the clay was poured into the mold. I don't think any of this on Amazon is first quality despite the claims made on pages for some of the items in this pattern stating that they are. Just so you know, even when a page says these are from Spode and you pay, you will then see that they may be other sellers. This particular piece came from Avalanche Brands. In fairness, I want to point ot that Avalanche Brands was also the actual seller for the tea pot that arrived yesterday and that was just fine. The two pieces simply don't match, and this creamer simply doesn't match any of the other pieces received to date. I would not buy this on Amazon, or I would order knowing I may have to send it back. When you get your pieces, take them outside in the sunlight and compare the body color. While I don't think of Spode and transferware as fine china like Herend, Bernardaud, Raynaud, and others. I do know that even if made decades apart, when I order vintage pieces of fine china they match. These simply don't. And while the pieces I've received that were made in China were very slightly more gray than pure white (and also slightly more elegant looking, as a result), this is the first piece I've received that is obviously a cream color not matching any other pieces. Take a look at the pictures. All these items (tea pot, cup/saucer, and now creamer) were order/delivered within one day of each other. Even in the images you can see the white of the body is slightly more creamy in the creamer, but it's even more noticeable in person, and especially when viewed in the sunlight. Buyer beware. ... show more
