  • A WONDERFUL REPLICA OF THE NEO GEO MVSX!
Size: MVSX Machine
This is an amazing replica of the circa 90s vintage arcade machine known as the MVS, multi video system, a commercial arcade machine, which had two, or four slots in it's main board, to allow arcade operators to install, and swap out games, easily, without having to haul in, or move out entire cabinets, back in the day. This cabinet holds a very cool archive of 50 of SNKs popular arcade games. I do wish there were fewer fighting games, and more of the other genres, but it is a fighting cabinet, after all. LOL. The buttons are fine, but could stand to be of better quality. However, a tech savvy enthusiast shouldn't have much difficulty in replacing the buttons, AFTER their warranty period expires. :) The bat tops on the sticks are a little loose, after unpacking, and you'll need to use an hand vice, with a piece of cloth, or cardboard around the stick's shaft, to hold it, whilst you tighten down the bat tops, to stop them loosening, during game play. I thought it interesting there are two LED readouts, one for each player's side, which unfortunately, don't show the number of credits for each player, but instead, show the game, and collection you're playing. A very interesting repurposing of the readouts. However, I would rather see an o/s update that would let the end user decide between game/collection, or credits indication. Didn't much care for the miniature toy coin door on the head of the arcade cabinet, but I REALLY do like the larger, more to scale, fake coin door, on the lower body of the cabinet! Very, very cool! Wouldn't take a minute to route out the slots in the coin door, and plonk a bucket in there, to use as a piggy bank! LOL you'd just have to find a way to make the coin door's lower door actually open, and close, though. But, there is a cut-out that goes all they way through the panel, so that shouldn't bee too difficult to do. As for the head of the cabinet, again, a tech savvy person might even find a way to reroute the USB/power button board, over to the front, where the mini fake coin door is, for easier access to the power button, and USB port. Otherwise, and this is one of just three downsides, is you'll have to pull the cabinet out of the row, in order to power the unit on, or off. I have mine on the left end of a row, so that's not an issue, just now. The second downside, and these are minor, mind you, is the height of the cabinet is such that a tall person will have to bend down a bit, to see under the marquee, and a sight impaired person will also have to bend down, to get close enough to read the small fonts of the user interface. Not too big an issue, as you only need to bring the cabinet up about four inches, on a platform, or some furniture risers, no problem, at all, really. The last downside is the placement, and size of the speakers. They're in completely the wrong place. Our ears aren't at our hips! They're at hour heads, for gosh sakes! LOL The speakers should've been installed inside the marque, in a down firing position, like with traditional arcade cabinets of that period. That said, I'm pretty sure the 3/4 scale size of the cabinet, may well have been such that the speakers might cast shadows on the marquee, given where the light source is located. The speakers just don't give the same quality of audio as in the commercial cabinets. Would've been nice if these were at least 4" speakers, plus an 8, or 10" speaker, mounted inside the lower body of the cabinet (base stand). I'm sure the average modding enthusiast should have no problems routing a speaker wire down into the base, and installing a larger speaker in that base stand, but you will need to cut a sound hole in the back panel, to allow sound waves to make it out of the unit, and not cancel out. The assembly of the lower body was easy, but for one step, in which the instructions on page 2 do not tell you there is no mounting, or connective hardware to attach the back panel, to the bottom plate, prior to going onto the other steps, so, you'll just have to prop the rear panel against something, till you can screw on the side panels to the back plate, and bottom panels. The back panel does not carry the load of the bottom plate, as a result. The side panels do that. After assembling the lower body, it's quite easy to mount the head of the cabinet, and screw it in place, from under the top plate of the lower body. You simply need to remember not to attach the front panel, until you've mounted the head of the cabinet, first. The screen is a very high quality monitor, and has a nice, wide viewing angle, side to side, and up, and down. The brightness, and contrast are perfectly balanced. I really like the inclusion of an ACTUAL volume knob! How cool is that? And it's not a cheap feeling knob, either. The game play action of the controls is quite comfortable, even though the buttons are not top of the line quality. They should hold up, for the long haul, though. I also liked the inclusion of plenty of red screw covers, which match the colour of the cabinet! Very cool! These are a bit tricky to get into place, though, and you might need a rubber mallet to force them into place. I am glad you can make the game's image bigger, just by turning on pixcel smoothing. Fully sighted users might prefer not to do that, as doing so makes the pixcels appear fuzzy. I don't notice that, as I'm legally blind, LOL. All in all, it's an enjoyable cabinet, and the 50 games is a very refreshing change from the scant few games on the Arcade1up cabinets, although, it should be pointed out that those are geared towards replicating given cabinet, and not intended to have dozens, if not hundreds of games. The MVSX lends it's self to having dozens of games onboard, as it does not have game specific side art. Like it's commercial counterpart, the MVSX is intended as a multiple video system, housing many games. The lighted marquee is beautifully, and uniformly illuminated. I didn't see any wire shadows, like I sometimes find in Arcade1up cabinets. Very nicely done. I think MVSX's makers did a nice job on the mini marquee selections, which best represent the genres of games included in this cabinet. If you happen to still own a Neo Geo Pocket, that would make an excellent topper for this cabinet. LOL ;) Once assembled, this cabinet is very rugged, and feels rugged enough to stand the test of time, in my home arcade, in spite of it's half inch stock panels. However, I would recommend chucking a sandbag, or a couple of barbell weights inside the base, to give it less tendency to move, during rough gameplay. :) It is light, compared to the Arcade1up cabinets. Nicely done, MVSX dev team! :) ... show more

  • Early '90s nostalgia + a life goal
Size: MVSX Machine
Between 1990 and 1993, a status symbol in Boston's South End/Lower Roxbury, Back Bay & Chinatown neighborhood amongst those getting a lot of money both through legal and illegal means was to own an SNK Neo Geo in their homes, usually the Gold package. At the legendary Teddy Bear Arcade between South End/Back Bay and Chinatown, one of the biggest stunts someone could do was to bring their memory card from home and put it into the arcade machine there. Back in Summer 1991, at age 16 I always wanted either a Neo Geo or the standup MVS-X in my home. 30 years later, I fulfilled one of my goals I had at age 16. Exactly what I hoped it'd be. I'm 6'4" so I needed the riser to play eye level with the screen. Love it. ... show more

  • One of our favorite cabinets
Size: MVSX Full Set
We have a few Arcade1Ups and I have to say this cab is far superior to those. The setup for this one is very simple, and there are a ton of games! Only con I have is that the power button is on the back of the cabinet, which if you have multiple cabs next to each other, you must have room to turn on and off. ... show more

  • Neo Geo Goodness
Size: MVSX Machine
I didn't expect to like this as much as a I do. I never had a Neo Geo as a kid, but there are a lot of great games on this system. No Windjammers or League Bowling, but I can overlook that.

  • Arcade memories
Size: MVSX Machine
I love this thing. Screen is excellent. Joystick is nice. I always wanted one of these as a kid, but no way could we afford an AES with games at 200 bucks a pop. This has a much nicer build quality compared to an arcade1up and comes with a ton more games. There's purists out there that just have to have the real thing, but this works for me. Hoping they make good use of that usb slot and add more games! ... show more

  • A cabinet that is great for upgrades but not as a stand alone.
Size: MVSX Machine
The media could not be loaded. The included board is slow, lagging in games where theres a lot of objects on screen at a time. The buttons are the cheapest you can find. I've played on it for 3 days and the red player one button gets stuck. The joysticks are much better quality than expected but a bit small for my taste. The screen looks fine and their are various options for adjusting it so it looks like a retro screen which is a plus. The game lineup is amazing if your a big fan of SNK fighting games. ... show more

  • Round 1! Fight...
Size: MVSX Machine
This is the video game purchase I was most excited for this year, and it kinda let me down. First off, the machine itself is lovely - bright and eye-catching, it oozes old school arcade cool. The game selection is nothing to sneeze at, too; a greatest hits of SNK's coin-op classics. BUT! It did not come with the promised stand, so my 57 inch rec room centerpiece is instead a table-top curiosity. If that was the only problem, I could live with it. After all, I'm here for the games! For the experience! But when I hooted it up, I was greeted by the scourge of all LCD screens, dead pixels. I tried to drown my sorrows in Metal Slug, but as fine as the game played, alas, that blue streak is an eyesore. I have requested a replacement, and if my issues were just a fluke, I will absolutely amend my review. ... show more
