  • Works as advertised.
Bundle bought this with my Quest 2 when I purchased that. Arrived in good condition, the clamshell protective case is a nice touch even though I don't use the case for the battery itself. Keeps my headset "charged" while using it standalone. I haven't exactly timed it, but it seems to be around 6-7 hours before this battery dies and the HMD is forced to rely on its own battery. I say "charged" because I do wait a moment before starting the battery. I plug the HMD into the red 5V/3A charging port and it keeps the battery near full for the entire play. The cable provided is not long enough to reach the black 5V/2.4A charging port. What I do for consistent results is: I power on the HMD and wait for everything to load. Once everything is loaded I take a quick glance at the battery indicator to see that it's not currently being charged. Then I reach around and give a light double tap the "screen" of the battery with the flat of my finger(not the nail) which will turn the battery on and start charging. Looking at the battery indicator I can then see if the headset is receiving outside power or is still running on its own internal. Sometimes I miss with the tapping and it doesn't activate. In which case, I just try again. From that point on the HMD is getting all the power it needs to keep the internal battery charged for play. It should be noted that I leave the HMD on the stock 90mhz refresh, instead of using the somewhat recent 120mhz refresh that it is capable of. For two reasons. One the 120mhz refresh uses more power, and will actually drain the battery even while being charged externally. And two, surprisingly, there are still quite a few VR games that don't utilize more than 90mhz. So upping the HMD to 120mhz, while the game is still only running at 90mhz is a waste of processing power and battery. The battery sits comfortably on the back of the stock strap that came with my Quest 2. And actually provides a decent counter weight to the HMD unit itself. Not much but enough to notice. At the same time not adding too much to the overall weight of the entire unit(I have a friend who has used my Quest 2 as well as his own Valve VRHMD and he says that even with the battery my Quest 2 still weighs less than his Valve VRHMD). I was a little concerned with the design of the USB A end of the charging cord, looking a little like someone removed the outer covering of the USB housing leaving the internals exposed. But after closer examination I can see that this means that unlike standard USB A connectors, this one can be inserted at any angle rather than only in one. Meaning that you won't have to twist the cord to get it at the right angle to insert. The battery pack also serves as charge protection for your HMD. Just a simple search over the internet, will show you that the Quest 2 HMD should never be left on the charger once it reaches full charge. Unlike every other internal battery device, the Quest 2 does not have a cutoff that will stop it from trying to charge even after it's full. So leaving it on a charger overnight can actually damage the HMD. But, if you leave this battery connected, the battery will shut itself off once the HMD is charged. And, you can plug the battery in and charge through the battery(essentially charging the battery pack and the HMD at the same time) with the same result. Giving you peace of mind that when you wake up in the morning your HMD won't have melted it's charging/data port because it tried to take more than it's fill while you were unconscious. I knocked off a star in the "Value for money" area because it was a little on the expensive side. I've seen other battery packs with double the mAh for half the price. And the inclusion of the protective case and pouch is not enough to justify the increase of price. There is also the matter of, this battery did NOT come with it's own charge cable. You have to find that on your own. For those who read this and want to start looking for a charge cable to bundle with it, it takes a lightning cable most commonly used with Apple products. I was lucky, I already had one of these from a previous iPhone that I used to have so I did not need to purchase a new one. There is NO data transfer capability to this battery(I know, pretty standard, but still needs to be said). So if you want to play PCVR you will either need a strong wifi6 router, or you will need to unplug the battery and hope that your USB A or C port supplies enough power to keep your HMD charged while in use(you might be surprised to find that even on modern gaming super computers the USB C port which is recommended does not supply enough power to charge the HMD while in use, and rarely will a USB A 3.1 port have enough power). But for standalone use, this battery is amazing and I do recommend it for anyone who uses their Quest 2 standalone. Even at this price($39.99 at the time of review). ... show more

  • Strong, comfortable fit. Balanced.
Very nice pouch. A little pricey, but I think its worth it. Reason I gave it 4 stars is because I just received it, and have yet to play for a long period. If it delivers as promised, I will change it to 5 stars. Very good material for the pouch. Soft fabric goes well with the Oculus 2. I don't have an Elite strap, but it should work on most straps. It has an LED that shows how much power is left. Didn't take long to fully charge. Maybe an hour. It balances the weight from the heaadset and battery. Seems as though the pouch adds a level of protection, and softness to the back of the head. Can leave the battery plugged into the Oculus, and use your own USB cable to plug into the wall, thus charging both. <Update> Although it works great, and does as advertised, it makes my OQ2 feel heavy now. If you don't have a strong neck, or turkey neck, you may have issues...lol! I upgraded my rating to 5 stars for the design, the pouch, and the care they took in making the product. ... show more

  • Great product overall. Battery doesn't last quite as long as it states but it never does, does it?
It's comfortably on my head, and if my headset dies because I forgot to shut it off, I can literally plug this in and within two or three minutes, I'm able to use it from empty. The crazy part? I can literally plug my Link cable into the battery and give the battery more power as it's charging the headset. It doesn't last quite as long as it's suggests, though that doesn't really matter because it lasts plenty long. I will say also that the main complaint I have with it is that it doesn't seem to detect when it's needed. So for instance, let's say you have it plugged into your headset but your headset is charged to 100. You play, an hour or two later you noticed that it's low, you would think that the battery would be able to handle this on its own but it is not. You just have to unplug one of the plugs on the battery or the headset and then plug it back in and then it starts charging. This isn't terrible, but anyone with a cell phone knows that they second biggest cause of breakage in a phone outside of the screen cracking is the charging port. The more you plug in unplug something, the sooner it's going to die. And there's really no way around doing this. Once the battery stops charging, you have to unplug it and plug it back into the headset in order to get it charging again. They could have put in a switch or a button for this but instead they rely on the wear and tear on the cables are the charging port which I think is irresponsible and a well-known problem in rechargeable consumer electronics. Still, great product nonetheless. Just needs to be polished up to make it less of a liability. ... show more

  • Works Exactly as Intended
The media could not be loaded. I got this to plug my Quest 2 in to have longer than 3 hour sessions at a time. Works amazing. Cord that comes with it is the perfect length to handle head movements and since the puch attaches directly to the rear of the headset it works as a counterweight to keep the headset balanced and not moving on around on your head which is a common problem causing constant readjustment mid game. Love this thing. The battery itself charges fairly quick, has multiple ports including USB C for newer phones. I use this port to charge the portable battery itself. The battery holds pretty well. I left it put away for at least 4 weeks and the thing still has 84% battery remaining. So it doesn't drain too much on its own. I'll provide a video showing its packaging and use. I would get this if you need it for what I described. Looks nice too in my opinion on the headset. Hopefully this helps! ... show more
