These flies are good for beginners who don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on better quality flies. These are tied on very thin hooks that seem to bend very easily if you are not careful. I’d recommend as a back up in your tackle box if you have nothing else to use.

These guys worked great on the American River Carmichael, Ca. Nymphing a 12 ft Reddington rod, added a 20 ft nymphing line then to a bicolor (red/chartreuse) 13 ft leader material tied to 2mm tippet ring then to my floro 5x or 4x tippet at about 2ft to 4ft depending on the riffle area depth and speed. The American is a fast to steady current it can be flat or rippled. Depths vary quickly and significantly in the Sacramento area. Nymphing up in the Lotus, Gold rush area is perfect. Trout with a 12ft 7wt spey works great on a Scandi or Skagit head (465 grain) for the bigger river coho or rainbow trout using a 5 ips sinking tip and 0x tippet. Deep river trout fight and are huge. My 12ft 7wt Ross I use Scagit for Salmon and huge trout and Saltwater. My 7wt Reddington Dually I use the Scandi (425 grain) setup directly to 7 ft polyleader and a 3ft 1x or 2x tippet. Nymphing I use the copper John 12 or Prince Nymph on a dry dropper 10 rig and yarn indicator they drift really well together. I like old-school bamboo for nymphing. I use my Wright McGill "5/6" 5 3/4 oz rod with a Pheonix 3 DT silk link to an old-school Silkworm Gut leader to the tippet. In small brooks/creeks, I use My Wright Mcgill 6.5 ft bamboo rod with a straight/flat 5 silk line. You could use an old-school ghost-casting silk line directly to the tippet. Ghost silk lines float without treatment and are way easy to cast or send flies out to 50ft if needed. Good luck finding old school silk lines and silkworm gut leaders. Treat your silk lines with 10% glycerine and water. And soak the silkworm gut leaders in this solution for an hour while you drive out to the fishing sight. Silkworm gut leaders are tough and last a long time. ... show more
