  • GREAT product, but know your Wi-Fi and internet’s limitations
Color: Black Size: 1 Camera Configuration: Floodlight Cam Wired Pro Only
We have a large 3-level house, so I bought 5 of these to get complete coverage. We also have a ring doorbell. I’ll break down my review into parts because I have a lot to say. nstallation The base comes with a built-in tab that you can hang the unit from while you’re on the ladder and wiring it up. This works well if you’re mounting it vertically. However I had 2 locations where I had to mount it upside down (replacing older light fixtures), and in that case the ribbon holding the unit wasn’t long enough, so I had to rig up an extension with an old lanyard. The ribbon needs to be just 2” longer. Activation in the App Ring did a great job here. Every one of my units was connected to Wi-Fi within a few minutes, and after downloading the latest code they were off and running. I used my iPhone 13 for setup, and it’s very intuitive if you’re somewhat technically inclined. Connectivity I checked the device health and noticed that 3 units were in the red, so I added a UniFi Wi-Fi access point to that side of the house, which mostly solved the problem. Ideally you want the RSSI to be better than -70, but I have one unit that still shows -74 and it works fine. Live View takes 3-4 seconds to come up on all my units. My 2 access points are UniFi UAP-AC-HD and UniFi UAC-AC-PRO. Day-to-Day Use The Ring software comes with a rich set of options. We had to activate Smart Alerts to avoid getting alerts for cats and raccoons, but that feature works well. The lights still come on immediately, but it seems to takes a few more seconds to get an alert for a Person. This is a fair trade-off. Ring’s app is easy to use, and my non-nerd wife figured it out pretty quickly. I signed up for Protect Plus, currently $10 a month. It stores 60 days of video with no usage limits. I feel like this is a good price. Summary I haven’t used older Ring units, so I can’t compare to them, but I’m very happy with the quality of Ring’s latest software and hardware. This weekend I’ll be adding an indoor alarm system. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Works perfectly!
Color: Black Size: 1 Camera Configuration: Floodlight Cam Wired Pro Only
Gonna be real I had an electrician install mine because the location I wanted it mounted to had no wiring at all so all of that had to be installed prior so I wanted it done right. It was worth the extra cost for piece of mind. Beyond that once it was setup everything else was a breeze. Connecting to the ring app took about 10 minutes because of updates but after that it works flawlessly. Picture quality and audio is excellent. Floodlight coverage is also very good and motion detection is honestly too good I had to go in and tune it because it was detecting people walking on the street which is a bit too much. Very happy with this product. Will update if that changes. ... show more

  • Outstanding upgrade from the Plus model for me
Color: Black Size: 1 Camera Configuration: Floodlight Cam Wired Pro Only
I’ve had several Plus models for quite some time now. They work great but I was looking for improvement for one location on the front of my house so I bought a Pro model to try out despite some of the negative reviews. I’m so glad I did!! I’d like to address three of the negative points that several folks make in their review of this Pro product. This is all just my opinion so take it or leave it. 1- complaints about the color of the floodlight light. I do agree that the Pro model has yellowish floodlights whereas the Plus is more whiteish. I can’t quite understand this seemingly backwards move when the “norm” for outdoor lighting is that cooler LED white these days. And if I had to vote, I’d vote for the light color in the Plus, BUT, by no means is the color of the light on the Pro annoying or a deal breaker. It’s actually fine. I have some 3000K LED bulbs in the fixtures on the front of my house and the light output of the Pro matches it pretty well. 2- complaints about the Pro light output being less than the Plus. I’d have to disagree. As stated in #1 above, it is a warmer color, but I honestly think the Pro is brighter. Some folks perceive light color temperature as bright vs dim, but it’s misleading to the eyes. I still have both the Pro and Plus temporarily mounted one right above the other (for comparison testing) and I strongly feel that the Pro lights are brighter. 3- complaints about the camera in the Pro not being any better than the Plus. Well, in some cases this may be true. The specs say that they are the same but with one big advantage for the Pro model. “HDR”. High Dynamic Range gives the lens the ability to adapt to bright light and low light at the same time. The primary reason I bought the Pro to try is HDR because the front of my house faces east. In the afternoon, the sun is still blasting over my house, thereby lighting up the street and neighbors front yards, but my driveway is in the shadow. HDR is a game changer in this situation. The Plus model would generally adjust for the darker (driveway) portion of the image thereby leaving the entire street way too bright and basically just a white blur. You could barely make out a car going by or a person walking by. HDR fixed that 100%. I don’t know exactly how it works, but now both the driveway and street and clearly visible at all times of the day. I’m a privacy freak or else I would post a photo showing the difference. Its a stunning difference. If you don’t have this type of situation, then yes the camera in the two will perform the same and you will see little benefit from the Pro model. Because of the Black Friday deals I got the Pro model for an amazing price and that’s the reason I went ahead and tried it. I’m keeping it and moving one of my Plus cams to another location on the house! The Pro model may not be worth the cost difference to you in general, but in the right application it’s a game changer. ... show more
