Our county water comes from wells and averages 23 grains of hardness, so I've had a water softener since we built the house in '91. That water softener sprung a leak, so I removed it on Saturday and started shopping for a replacement. My family immediately noticed that the taste of our water improved without the water softener, so I switched my search to salt free alternatives, and found Electronic Descalers to be attractive both in terms of purchase and maintenance costs. 23 grains of hardness is on the high side for Electronic Descalers, but this unit advertises 25, so I decided it was worth a shot and ordered it on Sunday. By Tuesday morning, we noticed that shampoo in particular would not lather, so we were seeing the effect of removing the old water softener. The new unit arrived Tuesday afternoon, and was simple to install (while the installation does not require the antennas be wrapped in a particular direction, I chose to install them exactly as the diagram indicated, effectively wrapping them in opposite directions). The instructions were were clear and informative and indicated that it should take about 3 days for us to notice that the soap would start to lather. In our case, it was almost instant, by Wednesday morning (12 hours) shampoo was lathering again! Net, our water taste better, soap is lathering again. Change in lime and stains remains to be seen; our old water softener was never perfect at descaling, and spots on our glasses were common, so if this unit works as advertised we may see an improvement in that area as well.     • It works...It really works!

I admit I was a bit skeptical that this unit would do what it claimed, but my skepticism has been totally erased. Installation instructions come with the unit and is easy to install. At first I was not getting any benefit from the descaler, but it was my fault. I hadn't left enough space between windings to allow for the magnetism to generate. After re-winding the metal tape I am amazed at the difference in my water. After about a week I started to notice that my sinks and tub enclosure stayed clean. I no longer needed to use Kaboom cleaner to get rid of the built-up soap scum. I've noticed that soap lathers up more readily and my hair seems to be softer and more manageable. It took a couple of washings, but now my clothes are coming out of the dryer much softer. I no longer needed to use fabric softener. I never would have believed that magnetism would be my friend, but I'm really pleased with the results of this descaler. ... show more

    • Subtle but seems to work so far after a month

I'm extremely skeptical of devices like this after doing a ton of research and because I have an understanding of chemistry and physics. That said, I decided to try this because I also appreciate that anecdotal evidence can be relevant. So far, it seems to be working. My shower is producing less noticeable limescale, we have a hot water pot that runs 24/7 for tea and coffee and it's still producing some scale, but it doesn't adhere to the pot as strongly at all and there's much less accumulation over time. I'll update if the situation changes but at the moment it seems like this is legit. Installation was easy also BTW.     • Helps with lime scale build-up, not a replacement for water softener

This is certainly not a replacement for a water softener for me, but works better complementary to my softener. I went with this model for the ribbons over the traditional wires that should improve the volume of water that can be influenced by the magnetic field. I have very hard water and use a pretty heavy softening regimen. A couple areas of my house further bypass the water softener (ie. kitchen and drinking water supply) and that yields very heavy lime scale in my kitchen area. I installed this on the the main 1.5" PEX line feeding my entire house. The results are certainly not night and day from a feel perspective when washing, but after a several week vacation I recently came back from, evaporation in the toilets and sinks left an unusually soft and fluffy scale that was a breeze to remove compared to the rock hard scale I usually have to chip away at. This also feeds descaled water to my outdoor sprinkler which do show a notably better spray pattern after several months of use and water spotting when washing my car has been reduced, so it is nice the volume this can treat. ... show more

I was very sceptical about this product but decided to give it a try anyway. I installed it in about 5 minutes. Finding the best location after my cistern and before my pumps took the longest. Plugged it in and the only thing that shows it's on is some small. LEDs. I'd say in less than a week I noticed a difference. Water feels only slightly like that from a salt softener, on skin and with soap use. After two weeks I noticed that the filters that i was changing bi-weekly didn't need changing and the toilets were staying free of rust build up. After a month we started noticing that fixtures were loosing the hard water buildup. Now after a few months I've paid for the unit by not having ro replace filters anywhere near as often an using expensive cleaners ro get the rust and calcium off of our toilets, showers and sinks. If I had made a bet on the day I installed it about this thing working I would have lost money, but now I recommend it to our neighbors and even our well pump guy. It works great. Very happy with this purchase. I have to admit I was skeptical at first that something this easy to install would actually work but it works great! We purchased this because our water is extremely hard and was leaving film on our dishes when running the dishwasher. The install took mere minutes and after a couple of days we noticed a tremendous difference. No more hard water stains on dishes, water tasted better, very very happy with this purchase ... show more
