Description

All I wanted was a break–two weeks off from being Pixie Hart, country music sensation, and fourteen days of peace, privacy, and solitude as plain old Kelly Jo Sullivan. But thanks to some overzealous paparazzi, my family refuses to let me go anywhere alone, and I’m stuck sharing this tiny cabin with a tall, dark, and bearded bodyguard. And guess what? There’s only one bed.Well, he can couch it.Xander Buckley might be hotter than a stolen blow torch, and I get that he’s a former Navy SEAL and all, but the man gives new meaning to the words overbearing, overprotective, bossy alpha male. I can’t even post a photo on social media without him warning me it’s not safe, or take a morning jog without him following behind. But he’s made it clear that what he says goes, and if I don’t like it, I can kiss my vacation goodbye.Instead, I end up kissing him.I don’t even know how it happened–one minute we were at each other’s throats, the next we were at each other’s mercy. What’s even more shocking is how good we are together. He understands my need for freedom, and I understand his need for control. But emotional trust doesn’t come easily to me. And we’re on two completely different paths.Without question, I’d put my life in his hands.Just don’t ask me to give him my heart. Read more

  • Xander, Xander, Xander…..
Hate to say it, but once again, Ms Harlow has nailed the perfect Book Boyfriend..Xander is protective, swooney, understanding and ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥! And how he falls for Kelly (Pixie) is “everything ”, even if they don’t hit it off right away:) Kelly (Pixie) is a country music star struggling to make her voice and choices heard, and Xander, a former SEAL, is asked to be her bodyguard by his friend (her brother) while she takes a getaway from it all vacation. Their romance takes off hot and heavy, yes, there are some ❤️🔥 scenes (MH didn’t come to play sweet here 😉 😍😜) Its a fast and furious affair with just a bit of intrigue and no 3rd act breakup! Xander understands her need to succeed and supports her career while still working on his own goals! No heavy angst and a HEA! (Also an In the Future epilogue with sign up) ... show more

  • Loved this
This is one of those series that is just fun to read. The story is a good one. Xander is reluctantly in charge of Kelly's security. She doesn't like him. There's a great end cute. I enjoyed the book. It's steamy.

  • Five Stars is not Enough!
RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ SPICE: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 This was perfection. There really isn’t any other way to adequately describe just how great the writing, how sweet the story, and how hot the spice. This book filled me with so many feelings, I legitimately squealed out loud and thought my heart was going to spontaneously combust. Melanie Harlow is a small town romance goddess! I’ve read several of her books, and she knows how to give the readers something that‘s inherently comforting but still always surprising. And I think this one might just be my favorite! Kelly Jo Sullivan just wants a break from her country stardom life as Pixie Heart for a couple weeks, so she rents a secluded cabin in the woods. Unfortunately for Kelly, everyone wants a piece of her, and so her brother hires a body guard to protect her, one she won’t be able to shake. Xander is a former navy seal and a man of honor, so when a buddy who saved his life asks for a favor, Xander says yes. Too bad the last thing Kelly wants on her vacation is company. If I tried to name all the parts about this book that I loved, I would basically have to highlight from cover to cover. The push and pull between Kelly and Xander is some of my favorite banter I’ve read in a while, their attraction is instantaneous, and the tension sky high. I love the spice, the way they open up to each other, and the way they challenge each other in the healthiest ways. But what makes this book special is the notion of trust. Xander may be overbearing and protective, but he gives Kelly what she needs at every turn. He tells her she can trust him, and then every action backs that up. It’s beautiful to watch because it just makes their connection so much deeper. Xander also makes Kelly trust in herself and her own power, and some of the scenes between them left me speechless with my heart fluttering in my chest. And then he trusts her in return, surrendering himself and his fears to her like he knows she will keep him safe too. I cried. My heart didn’t know what to do with the emotion and it came out as tears, because I loved this so much and felt so much! And the spice! The spice. This book was dirty and sweet at the same time, and that delicious filth was top notch and scorching hot! So so good, and there was one scene that had me full out sweating! You will know which one when you read! Overall I don’t have a single negative thing to say except I’m sad it’s over and I’m pretty sure I’m ruined for all eternity because of this! If you love small town romance, rockstar vibes and a kick ass MMC with a sassy firecracker FMC, Drop everything else and read this! Highly Recommend to ♾️! ... show more

  • Oh, my! Good story, great characters, well-written!
So, I looked back over all of the things I highlighted in this second novel of Melanie Harlow’s “Cherry Tree Harbor” series. This time, almost 99% of my highlights had something to do with Ms. Harlow writing something that severely ripped at my emotions, instead of 99% of my highlights criticizing technical errors. That fact right there told me this was a damned good novel! Ms. Harlow loudly shouted to my heart instead of mumbling incoherently to my “grammar police” brain. I dearly loved the main characters – Xander Buckley and Kelly Jo Sullivan. I enjoyed the fact that a great majority of the novel was simply these two BEING these two – and, still, Ms. Harlow moved the story forward through dynamic dialog and narrative of their movements in a confined space. (BTW – that was such a great plot device – confine two disparate, at first, personalities in a tiny space 24/7??? FIREWORKS will ensue!) And, I was so impressed with the author’s “never stale” narrative of two people just existing in each other’s space. I don’t think many authors I’ve read have been able to accomplish this feat. The personalities and the dialog were excellently written. I’d love to find a “Xander” somewhere who was confident enough to speak his “truth,” but still be sensitive and attentive enough to listen to another person’s “truths.” Such goodness there! Anyway, wonderful novel! I highly recommend it to all fans of contemporary romance. ... show more

  • Rated R
This was another great story in this series. I had a couple hang-ups, but nothing major. It bothered me that a navy seal and bodyguard came so unprepared to the cabin. Instead of reading comments about her and fantasizing over her pics, he should have been looking at the property and over packed. I stead he brought a small bag with some clothes. He didn't even plan food!?!? Nope. Set that aside, and the story was really enjoyable. I liked both main characters, and I thought they complimented each other well. *This book is rated R. The F word is used more than once. There is one scene with mild but bloody violence. The spice scenes are explicitly detailed. ... show more
