  • Beautiful instrument, great value
This is a beautiful instrument for the price, considering it's about half of what a Kala costs. It is my first bass, so I don't have much to comare it too, but I own a dozen other ukes so I have a pretty good idea. It seems very well constructed and looks absolutely beautiful. It's not very loud if not plugged in, but great for practicing and not bothering roommates or neighbors. Sounds really good plugged in to a tiny bass amp I found. It also came with Aquila Thunderblack strings, which from the research I've done seem to about the best choice for non wound u-bass strings available. It did have a couple of issues out of the box, specifically some intonation and buzzing issues with the E string. The E and the A both appeared to have some wear issues. Not sure if it wss heat or humidity damage or what, but I contacted the seller and they were quick to send out replacements which seemed to have resolved the issues. Definitely 5 stars to Rondo Music and their response and service. I'm looking forward to playing it and seeing how it holds up and will edit this review if I have anything to add ... show more

  • A bargain at twice the price
So I've now owned four ukes made by that really famous company, two of which I've sold, one of which I returned, and one which has been to the factory three times. Then I bought this thing for one third of the price. I can't believe it. This bass uke is awesome. I put it through its paces when I got it. That included checking on fret buzz, intonation, action, sharp fret marker edges, relative string volume, and general inspection for workmanship and quality. Passed with flying colors on all accounts. The color is not as red as is portrayed in the pictures, but is more the brown picture that one of them shows. Which is great. The color is very, very nice. The cutaway is awesome -- you can get to the higher frets. Definitely worth the money. This is a great first bass ukulele. In fact, actually debating making it my main bass ukulele. ... show more

  • Not a valid instrument. Barely a valid child's toy.
I have had dozens of basses in my life, from high-end custom beauties to trash-picked "warpy wonders", and this one is hands down the worst guitar I have ever played. The intonation is so bad that when tuned open, each string is at least a half step out at the fifth fret. The "Nylgut" strings are marred and marked from mis-manufacturing and are too rubbery to slide on. They stick to the nut so badly, that after every minor adjustment, you have to lift the string and lay it back down to find out how you did, and yet somehow, even the slightest bend draws slack from above the nut, ruining any approximation of tuning you might have been able to achieve. Mind you, I'm not above a cruddy axe, my favorite uke has fallen off the car, tumbled down the stairs, been forgotten in the rain, left in the sun, beaten on by my children and lived unstrung a decade in the basement - and yet - it still puts this waste of materials to shame. The overwhelming smell of still-curing lacquer hit me the instant I took it from the delivery guy, and a full day unwrapped it still smells like an industrial accident. I rarely write reviews, good or bad, but this u-bass is such a disappointment, I'd like to save others the trouble. That said... if you love a bass that buzzes at the seventh fret, this is the one for you. ... show more

  • Great sound
I love this electric bass uke. It says it's also acoustic but I think it is a little quiet to be considered that. Maybe with a mic in front of you that might work. But as an electric, I love it. I love the feel and sound of those rubber strings. The built in tuner is good too. Works well. Size is perfect for me. I've got a short reach so it works well. ... show more

  • Flawless, Great Value for Sure!
Its great, good intonation, can't shred it yet because I've only got a few hours on it and have not perfected the touch on the rubber strings. But it is gonna be fun for sure, this is a playable instrument for sure, not a toy. pairing it with a Micro Cube Bass for a campfire bass rig.

  • Fun and great sound.
Awesome and fun to play little instrument! It's got a rounded, clean and big sound when amplified. A little 'plastic' sound if you tap too hard on the strings but you can get around this by turning down the treble. Well built, very light and portable, perfect for practicing anywhere. Yes, you can hear it when unplugged in a quiet environment and even jam with someone else playing a regular Ukulele. Got really surprised by the sound and playability. Strings are a little sticky for slides when brand new, but I believe it will get better with natural hand oiliness after some time. Wood color is a little different than the one pictured. ... show more

  • intonation can render it unplayable
I read EXTENSIVE reviews on this instrument, absolutely none of which mentioned any of the severe drawbacks I experienced. I returned mine; perhaps they sent me a dud, I don't know, I was unwilling to risk a replacement. 1) intonation is extremely inaccurate, rendering it unplayable with other instruments 2) very noticeable discrepancy in volume from one string to the next 2) if these strings are an improvement over normal silicone strings, I sure would hate to play them. They have a randomly alternating smooth, then sticky texture I very much disliked. One string had a lumpy surface. pros - very attractive. would look good on the wall. ... show more

  • Great Value For This Beautiful Instrument
Bored during quarantine I officially became a ukulele collector as I purchased this U-Bass to complete my collection of ukulele sizes. I collect because I really that each instrument is a work of art. I chose this one for the deep color of the walnut and the price compared to the Kala brand. Since I'm not a bassist and just got this to learn, I don't need to spend the price for the Kala brand - bear in mind that I own a Kala solid acacia tenor uke. I include only the one photo of the innards as the rest of the stock photos are absolutely accurate as to the appearance of the instrument. I'm having fun with it and glad I bought it. I like the size - exactly the same as my Lohanu baritone ukulele and only a little heavier. I am considering adding a second strap peg at the base of the neck as I generally prefer the strap balance point there instead of tied up at the headstock, but I will decide on that after some more playing time. One very minor disappointment: I removed the back panel for the photo and when I reset the panel one of the four screws spins continuously now so the anchoring wood hole at that screw is stripped. My solution is to touch a micro-dab of Elmers to the screw to ensure that it will stay in place. Problem solved. I red other reviews commenting on the screws at the back panel not inset to be flush with the panel. That is irrelevant to me because the screws are so small there is no way that they get in the way or snag on clothing...I just don't get that. Lastly, I bought the Joyo MA-10B micro amp to play this through and the instrument's onboard electronics function well: I can tell a difference as I turn the dials but as a rookie to this I am still figuring out the optimal setting for each dial. Although I'm an absolute beginner with the bass and starting from ground zero, I like the set up I have and I'm having fun with what is a relative bargain of an instrument. If you've been thinking about it but afraid to commit because of the unknown brand compared to the Kala, I'd say just do it. ... show more

  • Great service
I really wanted a fretless bass, but out of stock. Has some string noise if you buzz a fret. I teach bass guitar. Would be great for beginner students.

  • In tune right out of the box!
I received the ubass 4 days early! It came out of the box nearly in tune. It plays easy and sounds great. There is no fret buzz and the intonation is right on. Great value!
