This helmet is a good $200 helmet. It is comfortable and has removable liners, so it is easy to clean up. It is a bit on the heavy side compared to more expensive helmets(about 1/2 lb lighter) but not too bad. I weighed it at 4.1 lbs for an X-Large. It is not the 3.3 lbs as advertised. They may have given the weight of an X-Small version. They use screws to mount the face shield and visor which means there is going to be parts to keep track of if you want to switch things around out on a ride. The top vents are always open so it may effect cold weather riding. The screws, open vents and a little bit of weight are what makes this helmet available for $200.     • This is working out as a BMX helmet that's large enough
My head circumference is 63cm as far as I can tell which is 7-7/8 to 8 hat size. I tried a 2XL helmet. I could get it on my head, but it was too small. The 3XL fits better. I use it for BMX. I was concerned that the mouth guard would block my view, but it doesn't. The visor is fine, but I have to tighten the plastic screws to hold it in place. The carrying bag is nice. I wear glasses, and I can't put the helmet on or off without removing my glasses. Also when the helmet is on, there is a little side pressure on the side pieces of the glasses. It hasn't caused any problems not did my glasses move out of place. The helmet doesn't feel too heavy. It's working out fine for BMX. My 2 youngest sons also have very large head circumference about 98-99 percentile. My 4 year old already measures for a medium adult size. ... show more

    • Product description incorrect. No shield.

The product page is titled "Bell Unisex-Adult Off Road Helmet". The item in my Orders page is called "Bell MX-9 MIPS Equipped Motorcycle Helmet (Solid Matte Black, Large)". This is important, because the MX-9 MIPS and MX-9 Adventure MIPS are two different products. The description, on the color I ordered, says MX-9 Adventure MIPS. The price is right for the non-Adventure model. The key difference is that only the Adventure model has a shield. The product description claims "Helmet ships with clear shild. NOT Tinted." What I received does NOT have a shield, nor does it have a "shild". This matches the pictures, which do not show a shield. This is the base MX-9 MIPS with no shield and I don't think you can purchase a compatible shield. The overall product seems fine otherwise at a glance, but I wanted one with a shield for winter riding so I'm going to have to return it. Getting a cold weather version of a Scorpion AT950 instead. ... show more

    • Fits tighter than most other size L helmets

I have 4 helmets, all size L, from four different brands. They all fit slightly differently. My GMax Adventure is the loosest of the bunch, my Thor and this Bell are on the tighter end. My Fox splits the difference. The Bell fits the top of my head ok, but its tight in the face area. I swapped out the cheek pads on the Bell with slightly smaller pads, it made a pretty noticeable comfort difference. But that's an added expense. I haven't crashed in this helmet so I can't comment on safety, but it's a very reputable brand with the latest MIPS system so I'm pretty confident in it. ... show more

The helmet, perhaps, has a design issue that makes it uncomfortable on the cheek bones. The Styrofoam shell (see arrows on the picture) is non-compressible and extends inward at the cheek bone. The 35mm cheek pad which rests on the shell compresses but has no where to go. The cheek pad has seams which add to the uncomforted. In the picture you can see that the cheek is narrower than the head. I purchased one size larger, which otherwise fits (not a size issue). Otherwise it is a light weight helmet of nice quality. For the price, there's little (or nothing) better. I am always glad for the hi-vis (closer to lime green than yellow) colors and about colors, wish the black part was blue, or light blue. I don't know why there's so much black paint on all these helmets but I was opting for the white/blue torch model, but this yellow/black one is much more affordable and basically the same safety features. Recommend to visit any local shop to ensure fitment prior to purchasing things like this, but the Large is the same size here as with the torch model. first time riding and a dollar sized rock was flung up from my rear tire and landed on my (helmeted) head and am so glad to have it. I've inspected it, and rubbed it but appears to be no damage, and even though it makes my hair look funny, I'd rather have that then injury. ... show more

I just picked up my helmet at the post office. Only issue I saw was a small hole in the corner of the box. When I got home and lifted it off my seat a bunch of seeds and part of the wrapping around the helmet fell on my truck seat. Oh boy, this can’t be good! I opened the box and the foam lining to protect the helmet was chewed, there was mouse poop in the box and helmet along with dried pee on the helmet. Plus it really smelled bad. The helmet itself looked great but it’s kind of hard to review when you can’t put it on because it’s so gross. This is awful quality control by the company shipping it out. I only ordered it 2 days ago so I doubt a mouse jumped in the box the 1 or so hours it was at the post office. I ordered another one because I believe in 2nd chances. I’m really going to be bent out off shape if it happens again!! This really messed up my weekend plans to trail ride my new Quad ... show more
