  • Fly high and cut away, humans vs giants in a high speed, sky high battle
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch
I just want to make this clear upfront, this game is not for everyone. I personally love it but for those that just want a normal RPG experience, I am not sure if this game is a perfect fit for you. In all honesty, this game is just... weird, that is if you have not watched the Attack on Titans anime or read the comic. So, onto what I thought about the game. First and most importantly, the combat is a blast, it is one of the most fun, real time combat systems I have ever played with. The battle style is similar to the warriors franchise if you are familiar with that, kill all enemies on an enclosed field, meet certain objectives, protect some people on the field and build and protect bases. The major difference? Well, first it is not you verses an army but you verses giants call titans who range anywhere from 3 to 15 meters in height on average. They are creepy just like in the anime and those creepy grins will stay in my head till the day I die. Also, instead of just fighting on the ground, this game uses and aerial style combat system, and it does it well. I have not ever felt a rush like this in a game for a long time, swinging through the air like spider man, only cooler and faster... oh and with swords. The weapons crafting and upgrade system is not very in depth, find items, pay a fee and boom, new weapons. It is nearly the same for base development but a little different, I won't spoil that part. Same for upgrading them. Not much to say on that front. As for skills, you can get those by upgrading your bond with the main cast of characters by choosing the right dialog options (if you watched the anime or read the comic, you will know what options to choose based on each characters personalities) and going on missions with said characters will raise their friendship levels (affection meters for those of you that kind of thing). Raising friendship is essential to beating the game, otherwise you can not get all of the skills you will need later and will be really weak late game. Onto the story (no spoilers), it is pretty much the same as the anime, though a few plot points were skipped. If you want to truly immerse yourself into the world of attack on titans, I suggest watching the anime. The game sticks very close to and is faithful to the source material. In addition, we get to see some new sides and aspects to the characters that were not shown in the show or comic. It was nice to be able to see a world you love and watched from the main characters perspective from the sidelines. Though I will say that the perspective you are forced to watch from feels a bit forced if you ask me. If you have never seen the anime/comic, it will not feel as much like this I might imagine. The character you play as also feels a bit hollow compared to the rest of the cast but it was still highly enjoyable. Overall, the game did a good job of faithfully retelling the story of the anime/comic quite well. However, it was obvious the developers made this game for people who are already familiar with the Attack on Titan's franchise, skipping several important plot points throughout the story. In addition, like I said at the start, this game will not be for everyone, it is a very niche game. Another complaint is that a lot of the plot and even some cut scenes were nearly copy and pasted right out of the first game so if you have played the first Attack on Titans game already, prepare to do some backtracking. The plus part of this is that people will not feel left out for not playing the first game. I think I can say the game, while not perfect, is a good effort and really will hit home on fans of unique games and the Attack on Titans franchise. Now if you will excuse me, I have more napes to go and cut up. ... show more

  • Attack On Titan 2, even better than the first one
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch
I mean... This is pretty much the same thing like the first one but improved upon so I'll just talk about the NEW stuff. So now they have 30+ playable characters in this game which was a problem in the first game with the LACK of characters. They have new combat features and the titans got an upgrade on how they react to the environment and you. There is new shiny equipment for you to get also You can now make your own character, why wasn't this a thing in the first I don't know. The storyline will follow the new season 2 storyline but they also kept season 1 storyline in there as well. In addition if you play with your own character, they will have their own cutscenes for the season storylines. An updated collection of the titans you seen will be in the titan research room, can appreciate those models better. But the trick is you actually have to capture them in the game monster hunter style. You can actually train your stats instead of just leveling up pre-determined ones like in the original. New scout missions, on top of the survey and expedition these missions will help you get more materials than before. Also you can actually pick who you want on your squad this time. Regiment Administration which is like base building which will help you in the field. Upgrading these bases will make you more efficient in killing these titans, as if your not overpowered already like an automatic cannon tower. You can interact with characters persona style by leveling their friendship in the game. Overall these new changes make the game a whole lot better than it was previously, so I'll give it a 5 out of 5 for that but mostly to combat the incoming 1 star reviews which there WILL be there. The switch version does have a bit of framerate issues in handheld mode but barley noticable in docked mode. A few bugs here and there but nothing game breaking. Graphics look great for the switch, glad it's on here. ANDDDD if you pre-ordered the game then please check your emails for your pre-order bonus DLC, they don't have it in the case. If you don't have an email then look it up in the amazon message center for "Benefit Confirmation for your order" should have the DLC code. But I'm pretty sure there are going to be 1 star reviews about "were is my code???" and nonsense like that.. Trust me I have been doing reviews for a while now. Please keep your reviews to the game, don't post your problems in a review unless it's about the actual game. Overall you should defently buy it. ... show more

  • Actually Pretty Great
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch
I only have Nintendo consoles, so I never had the opportunity to play the first Koei Tecmo Attack On Titan. This turned out to be a good thing, as this game apparently goes over LOTS of the anime's first season, which is obviously the biggest part of the first game's storyline. It's incredibly fun to play, not exactly easy but it's satisfying to figure out. They supposedly updated the movement/battle mechanics from the first game as well, so this was definitely worth the money. Handheld will indeed take a blow with the framerate but it's not that bad, no crashes but it was noticeable. I do want to mention that the online community for the Switch version of Attack On Titan 2 is remarkably dead, unless you have friends who own this game, it will be a struggle to find a party. If you're willing to put up more money for it, there's a story DLC that added in season three plot points, but I would only recommend that if you enjoyed getting through the single player. ... show more

  • Works great. Well protected.
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch
I ordered a copy without the case and cover art so I expected it to just be delivered in a little bag or something but I was pleasantly surprised that it just came in a case without the cover art. So it was well protected. I have not encountered any problems. The game works great and I really enjoy it. And it came early. ... show more
