  • A Runners Review
Size: 6.5 Color: Blazing Coral/Mist
Ok so I am an avid runner, running in ASICS Gel-Kayano for 23 years. It’s my go to shoe and Iv tried them all. I wore model 26 until I literally couldn’t even find them anymore. (Hands down best Kayano ever made). This is not the newest model but I got this one because I got a great Black Friday price. Ok…so here we go again with ASICS changing their models completely. Something us runners are on our last nerve about. This shoe has lost consistency and your a nervous wreck when the next model comes out. Iv had to find back up brands. This shoe is super soft. For me, that’s not a good thing. I run better and faster on a much firmer shoe. The toe box is not tight, but the shoe runs small and I had to go up a half size. There is a bit too much of over correction with the overpronation. Pushed my feet a bit (outward) against the the sides of my shoes. This can of course cause some pain and numbness, but as the shoe breaks in this may settle better. The color is AMAZING. Finally offering some fun colors!! Do this more please ASICS. Runners are all about bright fun colors in shoes and clothing. The reason I gave this shoe a 4 star instead of a 3 is because of the springy bounce it gives. This shoe lost the firmness but gained bounce. It’s hard for me to get good speed in a softer shoe, but the springy bounce gave it what I needed. The question is, will the shoe be able to retain that as the shoe wears? The thing about ASICS that stands above the rest is their ability to create a shoe that doesn’t break down. It keeps its firmness, form, doesn’t stretch out and doesn’t get mushy or change. Only time will tell if this shoe can retain or not. I’m training for a half marathon right now so I’m keeping fingers crossed 🤞. ... show more

  • My Right Foot Hates This Shoe
Before I start this review, I should mention that I have two completely different feet and they are seldom in agreement about shoes. I have to search for shoes that make both feet happy. I have always had higher arches, but they have been flattening over the years. Now, one has a higher arch than the other one and is a half-size shorter. It is also slightly wider at the ball. That foot likes to supinate. The arch fell more in the other foot, which is now slightly longer. That one is fairly neutral. I have sensitive feet and both are very picky about shoes. I like a roomy toe box and a narrower heel. These Gel-Kayano shoes certainly satisfy that criteria. However, my right foot hates this shoe due to the support features. This is a beautiful shoe, but it is supportive to the point of being a bit oppressive. There is too much padding around the cuff at the heel, which is a bit uncomfortable and rubs a bit on the heel of the shorter foot. There is great deal of cushioning in the sole and heel, which is good for "supinators", but it is a big sacrifice in responsiveness. The outside of my supinating right foot just mushes right into the lateral part of the shoe, rather than pushing off. I need a supportive shoe for my right foot, but it feels like this shoe is doing the opposite of what I need it to do. It seems to be exaggerating the supination. My left foot, which is flatter and more neutral, is OK with this shoe. It finds it comfortable. Of course, I buy shoes to fit the longer foot, so the shoe does fit the left foot better. That may also be why it isn't bothered by the excessive padding around the cuff at the heel. Unfortunately, it slides and rubs on my shorter, problemed, supinating right foot. My guess is that the shoe has to be a perfect fit or the padded heel is going to be a problem for some. I do find that the shoe is true to sizing. I measure both the width and length of my feet before ordering online and check with the manufacturer for sizing. These fit exactly as expected. They are a bit more snug at the arch and the heel for support, but the toe box is ample for me. My feet are pretty standard for width and I don't find this shoe to run narrow, like many claim the Asics brand to do. I think this shoe would be great for pronators who want superb cushioning, but I wouldn't recommend it for supinators. The cushioning is certainly ample for supinators, but the support seems to be geared more for pronation. It seems to actually push my feet in that direction. I did try the Asics Gel-Cumulus 23, which was a better fit for my supinating right foot. It puts it in the correct alignment without putting all kinds of unnecessary pressure on the foot. It still has more padding at the cuff of the heel and more cushioning in the sole than I would like, but that is more of a personal preference. I tend to prefer more responsiveness over cushioning. I also tried the Asics Gel-Venture 7 to help my supinating right foot, which doesn't have nearly as much cushioning and padding, but the shoe is supportive and responsive. Both of my feet love that shoe, as well as the price tag. Lastly, I also tried the Brooks Adrenaline GTS, which is a fine shoe for cushioning, but it doesn't seem to be made as well as the the Asics brand shoes or provide as much support. It has some degree of side rail support, but the material above the sole doesn't provide much form or shape. It is pretty soft and allows the foot to slide around. It is, however, a comfortable shoe for everyday wearing. I just wouldn't run in them. All four pairs of these shoes were purchased and compared for their comfort and ability to help my right, supinating foot without irritating my left foot. While I am on the fence about the Brooks shoes, I'm keeping the latter two pairs of Asics shoes and returning the Gel-Kayano 28s. I just don't feel the Gel-Kayano 28s are a good fit for supination. ... show more

  • Good but different...
Size: 8 Color: Carrier Grey/Pure Silver
I have purchased many Asics over a 15 year period. Before this purchase, I had the Gel-Kayano 27, size 8. I have run in my new Gel-Kayano 28's and they are a little bigger and feel less stability. I know if I returned them for a 7.5, those would be too tight and would hurt my toes with each step. I absolutely love the color of this pair (grey-orange-blue). I still recommend them, just maybe go to a store that has the exact pair, try them on before you purchase. I found these 10 cheaper on Amazon then Asics website. ... show more

  • My favorite shoes for flat feet
Size: 7 Color: Black/Graphite Grey
At 30 years old I’ve only recently learned that I have flat feet. I always thought the foot pain I experienced when walking was normal. I am not a runner by any means and do light cardio in the gym with my regular workouts. I had been experiencing foot pain during my workouts that really wouldn’t warrant it so I went to a local runners shop who advised that I had flat feet. I got a couple pairs of the Hoka Arahi 6s which I really like but wanted to see what else was out there. I found a blog online that recommended this shoe and it happened to be on sale at the time of my purchase. So far this is my favorite shoe that I’ve worn for my little flat feetsies. I am super happy that I was able to snag these on sale but I do believe these are worth the full price as well and I’ll definitely get another pair. ... show more

  • Over pronate
Size: 8.5 Color: Piedmont Grey/Soft Lavender
I wear these for work and go between the Gt2000 and the Kayano. I used to run (more than a decade ago) and these were my favorite shoes. I also used to wear for 12 hour work shifts and hours of walking. The kayano raise the heel a little more than the gt2000 and there is much more cushion. They are true to size, comfortable and fit well. I walked about 3 steps before I noticed that my right foot was over pronating more than normal so that I was almost leading off the side of my big toe. So, they are going back because it will cause pain in the long run. ... show more
