  • Wrecked it!
I am a HUGE fan of Altra shoes. That's why this review is so painful to write. In their description they noted, "Trimmed down upper for enhanced comfort and flexibility." Well, when they trimmed down the upper, they reduced the volume of the inside of the shoe across the top of the foot. This makes the fit much tighter, to the point of being uncomfortable, and I don't even have a high arch. In fact, in my opinion, it completely spoils the fit of the shoe. It's very uncomfortable and does not resolve with time. I'm sending mine back. And if Altra keeps doing this I'll never buy their shoes again. ... show more

  • Somewhat Disappointed -- Narrower Than Expected
Size: 12.5 Color: Gray/Orange
My feet may have gotten slightly wider with age, so I prefer a trail running shoe with a wider toe box. About a year ago, I discovered Altra and I tried on a pair of (the original) Timp model. When I first put those shoes on, I thought they were just about the most comfortable trail running shoes I've ever tried. I bought them and they've been great. But it's finally time to buy a new pair. I've heard the newer model of Timp is narrower than the original, so that fact didn't appeal to me. I decided to try the Altra Lone Peak 4.5, and just like the Timps, I bought them a half size larger than my usual size. They were close to fitting me properly, but I could definitely tell they were slightly more narrow than my old Timps. Bummer. I returned them and purchased the Topo Ultraventure. I'm very happy I made the switch. The Topos fit my slightly wider foot much better than the Altras. ... show more

  • Great shoes but they wear out too fast
I love Altras, and if not for Altras I probably wouldn't still be running. (I'm 68) Altras seem to keep me from getting shin splints, knee problems, or plantar fasciitis. The thing is that I received these shoes March 31. It is now July 8. That's 3 months plus a week. As you can see in the photos, holes have developed where my big toes are poking out, and the sole is worn. $120 shoes should last more than 3 months. That's $40 per month. ... show more

  • People with high arches beware
The shoes are nice. I have worn the instinct model for many years and decided to try a more rugged pair, the lone peak. The shoes as far as length are a perfect for as is the width. The issue is that they sewed the tongue of the shoe to the sides. If you have even remotely high arches then your feet are squished right about where the tongue starts. I wore them for two weeks hoping it would stretch out but unfortunately they didn’t. If you have even remotely high arches I would recommend against buying these shoes and go for something like the instinct model they sell. ... show more

  • Best shoes i've ever owned
Size: 10 Color: Olive/Willow
Hands down the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. Seriously! I have wide feet and love to hike, so after 5+ miles my feet start to feel restricted in most boots. I switched to trail runners and the wide foot box makes ALL the difference. I did almost 9 miles yesterday in them and wouldn't trade these shoes for anything. I've had them for about a month or two now and they feel really well built. Time will tell, but for now these are my hands down favorite pair of shoes. ... show more

  • Continued satisfaction
I have been using this show for running and trail hiking since the 2.0 version. Very satisfied with fit function and durability.

  • They fit absolutely amazing
They fit exactly . I wear a size 8 and the reviews say buy 1/2 bigger. So (8.5) and I feel super comfortable my toes are absolutely in heaven on a 20 mile hike uphill especially downhill no problems with the fit. Unfortunately looking at my front toes you can see where these shoes will start to pull apart. I’ve only done two hikes. 2 20 mike strenuous hikes And the tips are already pulling apart. I’m a little sad about that. But I will buy the shoes again when the trade runs out because they feel so absolutely amazing. I may have to use shoe goo to keep the tips somewhat together. ... show more

  • Be certain you need all that room
I changed on a whim due an eye catching ad. I have been wearing Salomon Men's trail shoes for years. These are lighter, have a wider toe box which was my selling point. I find the Lone Peak less stable and less well made but adequate. When it comes time for new shoes I will go back to Salomon. But if you really need the wide toe box (I find I don't) these may be a good choice. ... show more
