I was a bit hesitant purchasing this going in as I knew it could be a big project and was wary about quality, durability, and compatibility. It was indeed a bit challenging to install; but this is not really the fault of the unit. Due to the variations in year/model/options it is difficult for a product to truly be 'plug and play.' My case was no exception. I have a 2005 X5 with DSP Premium sound and factory navigation. The system failed about a year ago and I finally had enough! I stripped out ALL factory equipment aside from the speakers. I purchased these passive crossovers - Rear: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N9866QM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Front: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N987TC2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The unit came with two wiring harnesses, in my case the flat bladed one was needed. Unfortunately, it was located under the spare tire in the rear :) I had to extend wiring as necessary and run RCAs to a four channel amp (installed in the electrical box under the spare), and to a two channel amp (for the factory sub - installed in place of the OEM amp) This took me a LOT of time; but again this is really due to the vehicle. One oddity I had was that the buttons would illuminate when the volume was increased. I still do not understand why, but it seems to have to due with the steering wheel adapter. I disconnected the orange line (illumination) from the harness and the problem went away. I installed a rear view camera at the same time. In the end, I couldn't be happier, this system rocks. Sound quality overall is excellent with no real noise or interference. AM & FM Radio reception is as good or better than before. Handsfree/bluetooth streaming is flawless from my Iphone 7 IOS 12.3. GPS reception typically locks on really quickly. The rearview cam triggers properly and looks excellent. Audio mutes appropriately when turn by turn directions, etc are needed. Entertainment functions halt on incoming/outgoing calls. Illumination dims nicely when the headlights are on. Steering wheel controls work just as I would want! Illumination matches the interior perfectly (this was an unexpected bonus) and the BMW boot logo is pre-loaded. I installed a 128GB Crucial MicroSD card and have loaded it up with FLAC files - the system sounds MUCH better than factory, and the OEM subwoofer actually surprised me as well (I hated it before as it was so weak). If I haven't made it clear, I LOVE this system. It boots fairly quickly and is very responsive. The split-screen feature is super-cool as it allows you to have both Navigation and entertainment functions at the same time. Wi-Fi performance is good; I joined it to my home so it downloads the latest podcasts as soon as I am in range so they are ready to go for next day. At this point, all my concerns have been eradicated aside from durability. I have no issues two weeks in, time will tell how well it holds up in the extreme environment of a car interior. I purchased a 4 year extended warranty based on this; but even if the unit fails, most of the work of the installation/modification should carry over to a replacement unit. I only have one area where I am NOT satisfied; and that is that my commute is fairly short and that limits the time I am able to enjoy this next-gen system! ... show more

    • False advertising
First, I would like to say that I never leave negative reviews, however, I feel obligated to do so in this case to protect other potential buyers so they don’t waste time, effort or money like I just did. Secondly customer service is virtually nonexistent. Product does not work as advertised. In the description it states that the unit will work in BMW X5 vehicles with DSP (Digital Signal Processing) this is not the case. This is false advertisement actually, my BMW does not have DSP built in but still is not compatible with the equipment that I received from this company. The company states (very confidently) that you will not need the extra extension cable (at an extra cost), that also proves to be false. I can not confirm if this unit works or not as I am not able to power it on because it does not work with my vehicle as the description stated. Furthermore, they mention that there is 24 hour technical “quick reply” support, however, this statement proved to be false as well as I’ve received a single response (with no response back) in the last 24 hours. I’ve asked for a quicker way to resolve the issues but have not received a response and can only communicate with the company via Amazon messenger. ... show more

What a pile of junk. When radio is playing, it will randomly decide to seek the next station mid-song with no one anywhere near touching the screen or buttons. Also will not trigger the back up camera 99% of the time, and when it does come on the image jumps all over the screen. General sound quality is sketchy, and the subwoofer output RCA’s are dead. Was listed as plug and play, but in my 2004 X5 with Nav it requires complete rewiring. Looks nice in the dash, but that’s about it. ... show more

I bought this radio . Struggled and had to cut away plastics to fix . Just to find out it doesn’t work with the factory amp. So I have no sound. so I have to bypass the factory amp and only 4 out of 10 speakers will work unless you do some serious wiring . I bought this a couple months ago but didn’t try to install til now and it’s to late for me to send back . ... show more
