not a barefoot shoe, has arch support in the construction of the shoe. the midsole area is very narrow, creating pressure on the arch area unless you have high arches. For those without high arches, it causes the foot to tip to the outside, unbalancing the stance and gait. Also the insole has elevated heel. Also there is no lateral support in the very soft uppers so shoe is ok for walking but not for any kind of lateral movement. very disappointing that whitin has no real barefoot shoes in their collection. ... show more

    • Surprisingly excellent
I had low expectations for a $30 online shoe purchase. This was also my first pair of minimalist shoes, and I have always purchased neutral gait, low drop running shoes in the past. I initially ordered my usual US women's size 9, but needed to go down to an 8. Return was easy and prompt through Amazon and UPS. These have held up very well for several weeks for both running (all speeds and surfaces) and lifting. Rather than standard tie laces, this shoe has a pinch slide (like on a windbreaker jacket hood), which I was not used to on a shoe. I much prefer it to regular laces, and it stays tight. The upper is adjustable to a variety of foot widths. Appearance is good; they don't look like the dorky finger shoes, and most people ask if they're climbing shoes. A lot of the exterior is a rubbery material which has been very easy to keep clean. A word of warning to first time minimalist users: break these in slowly. Do some research about how to transition from a traditional shoe to avoid injury or soreness. Update after 2.5 months: I've used these shoes daily for lifting and running 3-6 miles. They are beginning to tear in the cloth upper near the pinky toe area (where the lowest shoelace attachment pulls). This may be because I often use them for multidirectional agility work (twisting, cutting, etc.). They are not ideal for planting and twisting since they are not as supportive as an athletic cleat. Traction remains great on the bottom, and an unexpected bonus is that they are flat for lifting. ... show more

I wore these all day from 8am to 2pm from our hotel room in Mexico throughout the resort (it was huge) and around not even half of the Mexican eco-park Xcaret the total for the day was 6.1 miles. My feet didn't hurt more than the average person. We went through one of the underground rivers and they worked just as well as flipper if not better in my opinion. They worked great on the beach. I did get a little sand in them but that's to be expected. The only small issue I had was the front tie on one foot felt almost like a bug bite when it rubbed(it may have also been rubbing on an existing bug-bite). I really liked these totally comfortable. Can't wait to wear them this summer to the Jersey Shore for Jet-skiing and clamming! ... show more

Very good looking plain black shoes. Super comfortable. I’m always a 12 but I have a wide foot. These fit me perfect, and I couldn’t be happier with how good they feel. I did’t like the shoelaces it came with and got some plain black ones. If you replace them, I recommend going with 38”.

    • Good beach shoe so far
I needed shoes to wear for daily beach walks that would be as comfortable as sneakers but dry quickly. So far so good. They don't have much arch support, so I double up on the socks. But that's just me. I can't wear shoes without socks, and my socks do get damp, but I only wear them for an hour or so, so that's OK. I also like the elastic laces. I don't expect that these shoes will last forever or even more than one season, but for the price I think they're a pretty good buy. ... show more

I got this shoe for running and walking. I walk a lot very quickly. I'm talking 10 to 13 miles every day. I'm building up my running slowly. I like low profile shoes because of their flexibility and for me they are super comfortable. I had never heard of this brand, Whitin, before. I am so glad that I risked the $35!!! They are the most comfortable shoe I've purchased in Lord know how long and they are flatteringly cut. I am seriously about to hop on here and order three more pair and I am praying for consistency. They came sealed in a plastic bag and they came within two days. I am really impressed! OH! I think the fit is true. Okay. Wait. I usually wear a size 8 or an 8 1/2 or a 38 or 39. It depends on the maker and the country. My feet are flat and narrow so an 8 1/2 Narrow is ideal for me. I ordered a size 8 and they fit me perfectly. My toe is right before the tip of the shoe. I was a little nervous but when I got walking, there were no issues. Okay. I'm gonna go check out other colors and I am definitely getting another black pair because these are gonna get a lot of use! ... show more

Very comfortable. Fit is good. I ordered size 8.5 the sticker on the sole shows that this equates to European size 42. The sizing seems to be quite accurate or very slightly larger. The shoes are light weight and very comfortable. I also own a pair of "WHITIN Men's Minimalist Trail Runner | Wide Toe Box | Barefoot Inspired" in a size 8 which are also excellent. Compared to those trail runners with the wide toe box, these shoes are slightly more narrow at the toe but still very comfortable. They are more of an everyday walking shoe with a less aggressive traction. They seem to be very well made and should hold up well to daily use. ... show more

I use these for hiking & light trail running, and they're AMAZING. Very comfortable, allow the toes room to spread out while keeping the rest of the foot secure. They're lightweight, comfortable, flexible, and attractive. The trail I usually take is quite rocky, and I can feel the rocks through the sole, but the shoe provides enough protection that the rocks aren't uncomfortable.
