Description

Read more The Headphones The Sennheiser HD800 and HD800S are a gold standard in high end audiophile listening. Dekoni Audio’s pads are a little deeper than the stock pads opening up the sound stage, and the slow rebound memory foam helps alleviate clamp force for both glasses wearers and non. This pad truly is an upgrade and should increase the sound stage as well as your overall spatial awareness inside the headphones. If you’re looking to upgrade your pads, look no further. Easy Installation Our pads use the same mounting method as the stock pads, utilizing a plastic mounting ring to ensure easy installation and snug fit. Be sure to check out our installation video guide as well! Our Materials Dekoni Audio spent a lot of time designing and refining this ear pad to be the most comfortable and best sounding velour ear pad available today. By using a tighter velour, Dekoni made the ear pad react more like a traditional leather or protein leather ear pad in that you don’t lose the bass frequencies or the isolation as seen with most velour ear pads, all while retaining the comfort and coolness of velour. Some measurements by others are made without headphones actually sitting on ears, or with adjustments to reflect the effect that the shape of a generic inner and outer ear will have on the sound waves – we don’t do that, because as every experienced audio enthusiast knows, we all have different ears! About Uncompensated Graphs The first thing to understand about an uncompensated graph is that it will sound different to the listener than the graph will show. For one, we haven’t smoothed our graphs, so there are many peaks and valleys that would have been lost information. There are other factors as well, such as the effect from the earcups and pads resting against a head and around ears, the human ear’s extra sensitivity to vocals, and that the shape of our ears and depth of our ear canals can actually amplify certain frequencies. For the purposes of swapping earpads, it is enough to say that a flat line along the 0 dB line wouldn’t sound “good” on these uncompensated graphs, a dip in the midrange is to be expected since human ears are more sensitive to that region, and mainly we want to focus on how a Dekoni pad compares to the Stock pad. • nice quality pad. but change on sound characteristic
I bought velour and fenestrated. both pads were good quality. but when I changed pad, I felt sound difference directly. basically, I felt more dry. so, I also measured the frequency response. (add a image in this review) in the image, red line is stock, green is fenestrated and blue is velour. as I feel, lose bass & mid range a bit and others change in other frequency sections. (even not include in the image, that loss bass actually make slight better THD ratio than stock in bass section.) I think it need to be thinner pad. it would make this sound change less. compare to the stock pad, these pad 2~3 times thicker. these pads are good. but the sound signature change are not my taste. ... show more

  • Best customer service experience I've ever had, extremely comfy ear pads
The ear pads themselves are fantastic, soft, plushy, and are easier to clean which were my main reasons for swapping out my original ones. They're also thicker so my ears wouldn't touch and rub the inside of the headphones themselves. However after about a year the glue on one of my ear pads became weak and came undone, I sent an email to Dekoni and the very next day (on a federal holiday, MLK day no less), the CEO himself, Tal Kocen replied to my email asking for my receipt and address to send me a pair. I sent him the info and 1 day later he shipped out a brand new pair just like that to me, no questions asked, no fuss no hassle. Dekoni has earned themselves a customer for life. ... show more

  • Poor value for money
Color: Elite Velour
I bought these for my HD800S a couple of weeks and honestly I'm pretty disappointed with them (especially for the money). The box is nice and gives a premium feel that one would expect at this price point. Unfortunately the quality feeling of the pads themselves doesn't follow suit. Although they're thick and the memory foam is of good quality the fabric cover does feel cheap and is not what I'd describe as velour. I've got several cheaper velour pads that offer better fabric quality. That being said the Dekoni pads do feel quite comfortable in usage. The included tool to help remove the pads broke the second time I used it and the fabric started to come loose from the plastic ring the first time I removed the pads so overall quality is pretty disappointing to me. As for changes in the sound they're not very obvious but over time they show and unfortunately they're all on the negative side for me. Slightly less bass, slightly more noticeable sibilance and as a total a slightly more distant sound. Not night and day but all combined it makes the headphones a bit less engaging. As a total these pads doesn't offer anything positive to the HD800S in my opinion and I get the feeling that they're made to make money not to improve the performance of the headphones, which is quite disappointing. ... show more

  • Comfortable, but totally ruins the sound by pushing the drivers away from your head
Color: Elite Velour
Comfortable? Yes, but it destroys the sound in the process. The problem here is the foam is too stiff, so these pads don't compress enough for the drivers to sit at the correct distance from your ear. This makes the music sound distant and causes it to lose much of the pristine imaging and soundstage the HD800 delivers. This effect can be replicated on stock HD800's - simply start pulling the drivers sideways off your ears until the pads are barely touching your head, and you know more or less what these pads will sound like. Softer foam could have fixed this issue and given us the best of both worlds - a comfortable pad, and drivers sitting at the correct place. Unfortunately that's not the case and no amount of comfort is worth ruining the sound of flagship headphones like these. Also, a quality gripe - the fabric on the pads is cheaply secured on the backside and easily begins to come apart. The pad fabric has a tiny lip that goes around to the backside (where the pad attaches to the headphone)... unfortunately this lip is only about 1/16" wide and is secured to the inner plastic bracket by nothing more than a thin line of glue around the edge. It had already begun to slip off on mine when it arrived - unacceptably cheap quality in an accessory for a flagship headphone! ... show more

  • Comfortable fit
Color: Elite Hybrid
They snap on easily. They are a little too thick for my taste though. You almost forget you're wearing the HD800's with the stock ear pads because of how light and thin they are. With the Dekoni's you've got memory foam cushions pushing on the sides of your head the entire time, reminding you of the giant cans on your head. They are even thicker than the pads on my HD820's. Price is a little steep but only $5 more than stock pads. The materials feel like nice quality, similar to my HD820's. They're just not as comfortable though, in the sense that you don't forget you're wearing them like you do with the stock pads. If you have the patience, I think it's better to order genuine replacement pads from SoundSpares and just wait for them to ship from the UK. Considering the stock pads are about the same price, I think they're the better option. ... show more

  • Excellent quality some audio tradeoffs
The earpad quality was excellent. They were easy to install on my HD800S headphones. Positives: Extremely comfortable (but did get a little warm after wearing them for over an hour). Imaging: very precise to locate individuals and considerablely more body to the sound. Negative: Considerable compression of the soundstage. The HD800S is known for its large stage and it was disappointing to experience this compression. ... show more

  • They look and feel great. They change the sound and I think it’s better.
Color: Elite Hybrid
I just got one HD800S and decided to try this pad as it has been positively reviewed. My initial impression is that, not only it looks to be of superior build quality (compared to the original), it is very comfortable and the fit is impressive. They look like they are original. The sound feels a bit more... but I don’t want to get into it as I don’t feel I have enough experience with a headphone of this caliber to make a judgement. I like the sound after the modification. That is a personal opinion. You may not like it but there is a definite change. ... show more
