I first came across these at my sister's house. Note that I have asthma, allergies, and I'm deathly allergic to synthetic fragrances. When I stopped by to visit my sister unannounced one day, she opened the door and I was hit in the face with the smell of air freshener and candles. Knowing about my asthma and allergies, she said, "wait right here for just a minute." She closed the door retreated into her house for just a few seconds and then came out to meet me on the porch. She told me we just needed to wait for a couple of minutes before going inside. I wasn't sure what to expect and figured she simply blew out the candles and left it at that. There's no way she had time to open all of her windows and air out her house for me. We chatted on the porch for a few minutes and then she opened the door. I held my breath and braced myself for another onslaught of synthetic fragrances. We stood there for a second and lo and behold, no fragrance! I couldn't believe it. I asked her what she did. Enter the Lěvoit air purifier. (Insert singing angels here.) In the few minutes that we chatted on the front porch, that air purifier removed all the fragrance that was in the air. I think it had only been about five minutes. She had it set on the highest setting, level three. It can only be on that setting for a maximum of 10 minutes but, you can kick it down to a level one or an even milder, quieter sleep mode. I was amazed! My throat wasn't burning, my lungs were not itching and irritated, my airways were not constricting and closing up on me. I could breathe! It was amazing! I also want to note that she has a cat who occasionally uses a litter box and, I couldn't smell that either. Normally, I would have been impressed and then, put off purchasing a purifier because I like to do my research and comparison shop. My sister is even more thorough in her product research than I am. So, I felt the universe had spoken. She had already done the research and she had one of these on each floor of her home. As soon as I got home, I ordered one for my bedroom and one for the rest of the house. I have since ordered the smaller, desktop version for my child's bedroom and one for my home office. These already come with a filter in them. You can purchase the same replacement filters or filters that are more specified for rooms with pets or spaces that may have other chemicals/allergens in the air. I recommend sticking with the Lěvoit brand filters. I studied reviews for offbrand filters that fit this model. The consensus is that they do not work properly and do not filter nearly as well. If you or someone you love has asthma and allergies, I cannot recommend this enough. Or, if you just don't like anything to smell funky in your space, this is for you. The purchase of my Levoit air purifier was definitely a WANT and not a NEED...although after ~3 weeks of use, I think everyone NEEDS one! The reason I wanted one is because I hate to see the dust particles floating thru the air as the early morning sun shines thru my blinds. I'm a bit compulsive when it comes to cleaning. Every week I dust, vacuum, and mop plus all the other chores in between. Half of my weekend is dedicated to just cleaning! And it disgusts me to see how much dust settles on my home furnishings (dressers, TV, cabinets, fans, blinds -- it's EVERYWHERE). I do have a really good HVAC with UV lighting and I change the filters on a regular basis. I won't say that this air purifier completely illuminates the dust but it drastically cuts down on the dust that I normally wipe up every weekend! And my living room no longer has that "hazy" look of dust floating thru the air as the morning sunshine enters the room! When I plugged in the purifier the PM reading was 1. I was surprised! I've noticed that when I cook it goes up dramatically as the purifier cleans the air of smells. I normally leave it on Auto but if I'm cooking a lot I will bump it up (even though it will automatically increase if the PM reading gets too high). It can get fairly loud at the higher fan speeds but once the air is cleaned and I turn it back to Auto or bump the speed down the noise is, for me anyways, non-noticeable. I've already ordered two smaller LeVoits for smaller rooms in my house to include my son's bedroom and hope these will help with additional dust accumulation in other rooms. I do enjoy using the app as well. It's not necessary but it's a cool feature to see the PM reading and specifically for ease of control. Plus the app will show the filter life remaining, indoor/outdoor PM, and various other statistics which I find interesting. You can also set up a schedule to run the unit but I've just been running mine 24/7. ... show more

This is our 2nd purchase from this buyer. Why? We gave our first one to our daughter because we no longer bred snakes/feeders. But after several years, we got back into it (small scale collection). It worked for us the 1st time and that is the reason for the 2nd purchase. It does the job at eliminating the "mice" smell. (We only have 2 sets of breeder mice families.) Lowest setting, you cant hear it if the TV is on - small hum; Medium setting - is what you would expect/regular fan sound. On the highest speed though, sounds like an free-standing oscillating fan on high. We keep ours on low. Our room is approx 10 x 20. Highly recommend. Thank-you! ... show more
