  • Short cables.
Works great. Cables are short though. Only reason for not giving 5 stars.

  • Great buy;
I purchased this for my grandfather because his battery is always dying. He charged this over night when he first got it and hasn't need to charge it since! He uses this daily! I'm happy with my purchase

  • Never Leaving Home Without It
Came out of my Colorado home to find my Jeep dead. No lights, no click, no nothing. (Yes, you CAN ride a mountain bike in the snow!) Decided this was a good time to order that portable jump starter I wish I had on vacation 3yrs ago, when I locked my keys in the car overnight in the accessory position...don't ask. The people at the hotel came out with a jump starter: small, weak and totally useless. But it was still a good idea and I wanted one. Fast forward to winter of 2010. I did a little research, came to Amazon and discovered Clore products. I was worried the Jeep had been inactive for too long, now going on 2 weeks, but she was in a garage so I went for it. I decided the cheaper model might not have enough power, and the more expensive 660 seemed a bit too powerful for my needs. So I got the middle model JNC4000. Ten days later it arrived. Out of the box I pushed the button to check the battery life and it read between 12 and 13 volts. Having read a couple stories about over charging, I decided it would do no harm to ignore Clore's advise to charge it for 24 hrs before use, and simply try to start my Jeep with the power it arrived with. True, the short cables are a bit of a drag, I would rather set it on the ground than try to precariously balance it somewhere under the hood, but after the sweet sound of my engine turning over I didn't care about the short cables anymore!! (My jeep beeps when I leave the keys in the ignition, I wish it did that when I left that darn overhead light on!!) No problem that I have to use an extension cord to charge it, I have PLENTY. They said re-charge it after 2 or 3 months of storage, so I have already taped a piece of paper to the back of it to write down when I recharge it. My only concern is that ideally it should be stored no lower than 50 degrees, and for the time that I am in Colorado how will it work out stored in the back of my jeep in the middle of winter? Decided to keep it in the house and take it every time I leave, kind of a drag but maybe I will wrap it in a thermal blanket so I can feel comfortable leaving it in the vehicle. I am VERY happy I purchased this and have no regrets. ... show more

  • CLORE JNC 4000 IS AN EXCELLENT PRODUCT
The Clore Automotive JNC4000 is the product to take seriously. After looking around a long time, I decided that this particular model was the best. I am very pleased with my decision. I first chose a jump starter from my local store. It was a Super Start Power Pack Portable 12 volt power source with 1000 peak amps. When I got it out of the box, I noticed that the lights on the actual charging unit were wrong. The printed label on the unit had been reversed leaving me very confused to whether it was charged or charging. Instead of reading "Charging" it said "Charged!" I called the company to complain and they said that they would call me back. They didn't bother. The quality control was in question and the company didn't care!? Back to the Clore. It is sturdy, built well and the instructions have obviously been written in this country and easy to read. There are no corny lights in red or green. It has an easy to read needle that clearly indicates where the charge is or how much more is needed to bring it up to its peak power. Nice. The smaller cables are of no concern for the average home owner. They are conveniently located and easy to unwind. This particular sealed battery can be stored or travel in any direction. On its side, back or whatever. Many units say that they should be stored upright or packed that way for travel. Not this one! So, the big complaint seems to be that there isn't a power cable that comes with it. I personally feel that this is not a problem. I will pack a small power cable about ten feet long without that multiple cable that comes on the smaller ones sometimes used for lamps, etc. It takes one plug outlet on the box and one on the wall. I like that it is not attached to the box itself so I can store it easier while I'm on a trip. This unit I have been told is used mainly by auto dealerships to jump start dead batteries when they have been depleted sitting in the parking lots. By the way... the little card that comes with the unit has a lifetime guarantee, but it has gone from $25.00 to $50.00 and now is up to $75.00. So, when something goes wrong to the original owner - to send the product back and forth and to repair or replace it costs $75.00! Forever... if you live that long! I recommend this jump start to anyone who needs something that is dependable and long lasting. Good Luck... Mike ... show more

  • It's just the "Best" ..cold weather worries set aside..finally!!
I tried a number of portable jump starters and found them irritatingly finicky about having enough juice to start my car in winter, and definitely had to re-charge them after every jump. Then I was lucky (?!) enough to need a jump from the local garage since the one I had (yet again) wasn't up to duty. It was quick & easy to use & my car started in a jiffy - so I thought I better buy one of these. If it hadn't worked, I think I would have given up on portable jumpers. Well I am writing a review because it not only worked perfectly, but was able to jump the car 4 times without even remotely needing to be recharged. I would guess you can get about 6 jumps out of it. And its just red to red, black to metal, and it's ready.. You dont need to 'turn it on' or remember any operational details. It's true the cables are short, and could stand to be a little longer, but I have just rested it near the battery and never had a problem with it tipping, and have always done the jump by myself with no assistance. I leave it in the car behind the drivers seat, and feel 100% safe that I'll be okay in winter, despite a car that has poor starting history (not the battery..it's the car) in very cold temperatures. A life saver, highly highly recommended for: RELIABILITY, EASE OF USE, LENGTH OF BATTERY LIFE WITHOUT CONSTANT RECHARGING, PEACE OF MIND. ... show more
