    • The thing you didn’t know you really need

This has been a summer of need-an-air-purifier (or two or three…) for us. We had one years ago, one of those big hulking floor units, when we had elderly relatives but it has been a long time since we’d even thought of one. But between the smoke from distant wildfires and the endless rain leaving the dog endlessly damp we were ready to consider one again. We started the summer with two Amazon-purchased ToLife purifiers, and they more than met our expectations. But since you really need one per often-used room, I was curious when this one became available how it would compare. Some things to know, especially if you’re comparison shopping: This purifier has a detachable cord, much as a portable radio might have. This is not particularly a good thing if you’re the kind of person who loses a cord if it’s not permanently attached to the thing it powers. On the other hand if you’re the kind of person who accidentally slams cords in dresser drawers, mangling them beyond all redemption, it could be a real plus. The plug on the cord is an oversized rectangle, which means it is a space hog and doesn’t give you a ton of flexibility about what else you plug into the outlet. I was surprised that the instruction manual didn’t give any information about the minimum clearance the device needs for optimum performance, so I just used what was recommended for the other purifiers (15” vertical and horizontal ). Seems to be working ok. Even on its lowest speed this purifier is noisier than my other two — in fact through the open doors I can hear it in the room next door. But it’s by no means an offensive noise. It’s more of a very present not quite white noise. I don’t find it irritating or distracting at all. The thing I find most exciting about this purifier is you can prolong its filter’s life by dusting it every couple of weeks. With my other purifiers once the filter is done, it’s done (and much like inkjet printers and ink cartridges, replacements cost nearly as much the original cost of the entire unit.) The idea that all it take to improve the milage on the purifier is a little elbow grease is very attractive. As of this writing (9/23) there’s a coupon that gives you $30 off on your purchase, which brings the price in line with many of its competitors. The pricing and the filter might bring this purifier to the top of your must-have list. ... show more

I am so glad I got this air purifier! It works so incredibly well it's absolutely amazing! I smoke in my house so this actually keeps the smoke out and keeps the air clean and smelling fresh (partly because it has a function where you can put essential oil in it and have it blow out with the air and that really helps and is a great option!). I know you're probably thinking that's impossible if you smoke but this air purifier is so good that it's actually true! When I walk in the house from being outside I don't smell the smoke anymore and boy does it filter out and keep dust off of everything! We had new insulation put in last winter and it has caused dust to accumulate like crazy all over everything and pretty heavily rather quickly. It's been a huge hassle to clean up and keep dusting everything very often but with this air purifier it takes probably 85% of the dust out of the room from the insulation and just from Life in general! We even have 100 lb long haired white Pyrenees dog who sheds like crazy and this filters out his hair and dander and any scent that might be coming from him, especially when he comes in after playing in the mud in the yard. I seriously just cannot get over how amazing having an air purifier in my house has been! It has made such a huge difference that I want to get a few more of them to put in other parts of the house. This air purifier alone is meant for large rooms and I have three rooms that connect to each other the kitchen, dining room, in the living room and we don't keep the doors shut in between so they are open air with each other and having this purifier in the middle room really seems to work for all three pretty well! I want to get one to put upstairs in the two bedrooms that are probably made for smaller rooms since this one is for a large rooms I don't think such a big one will be necessary. Putting it together and taking the filter out of the packaging and putting it in was very easy and I like that you can control it using an app on your phone. If you have a voice assistant like echo or Alexa you can also turn it on or off using that as well. I think that makes it very convenient. the only thing that would have made this air purifier better would have been if it came with a remote! It's not a huge hassle though because I pretty much keep it on constantly so I'm not getting up and having to turn it off and on very often. The only thing I'm concerned about is having to replace the filter when it comes time. Since these are very great heavy duty HEPA filters, I imagine the replacement filters will be pretty costly. I've been using mine for months now with all of the things in my air going around that I just mentioned and the filter still doesn't need to be changed yet. The only thing I can't remember is if it has a light that goes on when the filter needs to be changed or not, but that might be mentioned on the site I haven't had a chance to double check it. I have actually taken out the filter and checked it to see if it was needing to be changed and it doesn't yet. So hopefully it has a light, because that would be extremely useful! Overall this air purifier has made a huge difference in my life! I don't have to dust nearly as often, the air smells fresher, the air is lighter to breathe, it keeps my allergies at bay and that's important because I'm a huge allergy suffer especially in the winter and this I really think will help with that during these winter months.     • Won't be keeping due to the cost of the replacement filters

Pros: - Works well for keeping the area where we keep the dogs smelling fresh - I really like the aromatherapy feature - While the sound of the fan is a little loud with it set to the highest fan speed, it doesn't really bother us as it functions as white noise - Smaller unit doesn't take up much space Cons: - Cost of replacement filters. I just can't see spending $30 to replace the filter when the unit is only $42 (it was $79.99 when I ordered it on 10/2/23). - My unit didn't come with any instructions so I'm not sure what all of the buttons represent. If the cost of the replacement filter doesn't bother you, then this might be a good option for you. I'm not sure how long the filters are supposed to last, but in our case, we have to replace the filter every month with how much sand and dust gets tracked into our house so it's not a good option for us (the filter on this unit is already pretty dirty and we've only had it a couple of weeks) TL;DR: I will go with a unit that can take generic replacement filters due to how often we have to replace them. ... show more
