I dont usually write reviews but this test was SO COOL and SO FUN! We got our dog 5 years ago from the shelter and everyone always asks us what she is. Shes brindle in coloring and is pretty small, roughly 30 pounds, shes short and SO SMART! She is built like a lab but her coloring is that of a pit! Weve always been stumped as to what she is! We knew there was some pit breed in her but what else? Turns out shes pit, staffy, and 17% chihuahua ... amongst small percentages of other things including poodle, chow, cattle dog, and many more. She is a perfect mix of 15 breeds in total and 0% lab! I was shocked! I love that they email you when they receive the sample, start working on the sample, and are generating the results! The results are VERY detailed. You do have the OPTION to purchase ADDITIONAL testing of the sample you already sent in for $40ish bucks which some people threw a fit about but it literally says that in the description so maybe they cant read? Im not sure! But all in all if your on the fence JUST DO IT its seriously so fun! I purchased one for my son for his little rescue as well as my other rescue dog too! But those will have to wait until Christmas as theyre stocking stuffers! ... show more

I adopted a...supposedly...approx 2 y/o, 25 lb, F Chihuahua mix, who was rescued literally MINUTES B4 the only road to, & then the actual shelter were both WASHED AWAY in Texas, after more than 4" of rain fell in less than an hour, causing a 'flash flood'...More than 45 cats/dogs would have SURELY drowned, if a local moving company didn't offer 2 large trucks to rescue...then transport...them to shelters here in PENNSYLVANIA...where over 1500 pets, rescued from similar circumstances, were also sent...Then they organized A MASS/low cost, 2 day Adoption Event that was held as soon as the 2 week 'quarantine' for out of State pets allowed...& during that time, ALL were neutered/fully vaccinated...& microchipped!! The same week was 'PRIME DAYS', & THIS was the test that my Vet suggested...AND SIGNIFICANTLY PRICE REDUCED! As promised, I got her results within 2 weeks. I then made an appt for GINGER's 'wellness' check...with her ancestery/genetic testing for their records...BTW, she is 33% Chihuahua & 1-2% MANY other breeds...Most likely 'Dad' was a purebred & 'Mom' was a "HEINZ 57'...LOL, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, she tested NEGATIVE for predisposition of... almost 300...diseases/conditions that can now be detected by genetic markers...AND they wiill keep her sample to test for others/update me as science advances! Also, her exam showed, while she IS fully grown, he actually found...& 'helped' her last adult tooth finish replacing her last 'baby' tooth...without causing Ginger ANY discomfort...so she is no more than 10-12 mos old!! BTW, just like ANY 'Baby', I kept that tooth for the 'Scrapbook' of her 'milestones/memories'...GOD BLESS THOSE WHO RISKED THEMSELVES RATHER THAN ALLOW HELPLESS "FURBABIES", TRAPPED IN KENNELS SUFFER CERTAIN/CRUEL DEATHS!!! My Vet...of 20 yrs...STRONGLY recommends this test for ALL, healthy dogs up to 7 yrs of age...& those for cats up to 10 yrs of age. ... show more

I enjoyed doing my dogs, DNA test. Just wanted to do it for fun and see the results that came back, it was very interesting facts I learned about my French bulldog, color traits & traits. Reason why I took off a star is because they had a upgrade for premium to get more “detailed” results. Definitely not worth it. Waste of money. Other than that the process was easy and received results in a few weeks ... show more

We used the Wisdom Essentials test kit on our rescue puppy. As per the instructions, you need to roll the little bristle against their gums twice for several turns, and it actually went much better than I thought it would with our active and excitable 4 month old puppy. My husband held her, and I was able to get the samples. We got one, waited until a little later, and did the second one. Communication with Wisdom Panel has seamless. Easy to mail in the samples, they gave updates via email, and our results were in early. We had a fun breed “reveal” of the results with our young adult kids. :) We got some breeds we expected and several surprises! I didn’t upload our puppy’s picture before the results were available, and the physical traits they said were likely for her (coloring, markings, furnishings, size, type of fur, etc…) based on her genetics, line up with her very well on all counts they list. We really enjoyed this, and were super excited to learn more about our pup!! 🐾🩷 ... show more

I bought this test to use on a dog that I recently adopted from the shelter. The shelter had him listed as a "wirehair griffon." Boy were they wrong! =0) Dutch is actually 56% various types of Bulldog, 10% poodle, 15% chihuahua and a bunch of other stuff. Never, and I mean, never did I think that would be the results we received back. but hey -- it is what it is. As for the process...it was all very simple. Once I placed the order - the test arrived within a couple of days. Collecting the sample was super easy. The test included 2 brushes, that kind of look like a bottle brush or mascara wand, that you twirl around in the dogs mouth. Since they are bristled - the sample attached to the brush easily. The main thing is to not let you buddy eat or drink for about a 1/2 hour prior to collecting the sample. once you have the sample - you simply put it back in the provided packet and drop it in the mail. Once it was picked up by USPS - I started getting updates. It took maybe 3 weeks to get the report back? The web site was simple to navigate and easy to read. Depending on how much you want to spend - the testing can provide all sorts of information. I went with the basic package ( right around 90.00, I think). This package told me Dutch's breed, some basic medical conditions he may be predisposed to have, and list some "relatives" that matched some of his dna.
