Directions: Open swab sleeve 1 inch; remove without touching bristles. Save sleeve. Firmly roll swab between dog’s cheek and gums for 15 seconds per swab. Insert swab handle in carton hole and air dry for 5 min. Repeat for second swab. Activate kit and fill in info. Write Activation Code Number on back of Sample ID Sticker. I adopted my dog a couple of years ago, and ever since that day I have been curious to know what breed(s) he was. When I received the Wisdom Panel Dog DNA kit, I was very excited, it included super straightforward directions, it's also very convenient because it includes tape and a shipping label, so you can do the swab, then stick it in the mail, all in the same day. It says it can take up to 4 weeks to get the results, but I got them 2 weeks after. My favorite part of the entire product is, depending on your dog's DNA, the results will show you your dogs "relatives", or other dogs that have DNA that is very close to your dog's. The app will also give you a detailed description of each breed that was detected in the results. Another cool feature, is the results make a family tree to explain how the different breeds have developed into your dog over time. I was hesitant about the price of these kits and held out for a long time but finally bit the bullet and boy was it the best decision ever! If you’re hesitant to buy this to find out more about your pups, don’t be! This was 100% worth it to find out more about our two boys. It was so easy to do and once I mailed it back it only took about 2 weeks for the results to come in for both our boys. Found out so much about the breeds of them both and also found tons of relatives. Our two dogs are about 6 years apart, we adopted our youngest dog from a shelter a few towns over and got our oldest from a family friend in town who’s dog ran off and came back pregnant, and actually found out that our two boys share a very very distant relative :) the only thing I wish it would tell you is what the relation is between the dogs when they find a relative through a dna match. It only says “close family”, “extended family”, and “distant relation” and then the percentage so unless it’s obviously 50% 50% and a parental relation, it is kind of hard to figure out what the two dogs are family wise! If you love your dogs as much as we do in our house then you most definitely so should do the test. Didn’t think it was possible but I love my boys even more now 💗 finding out breeds and traits has helped me gain a whole new level of love for my boys! Do it, do it, do it!!! ... show more

    • Awesome if you understand its limitations.
This was awesome, and I'm so glad we used it! We have a big, doofy looking dog that we adopted years back but never bothered to try to figure out what he was. He looks like a gigantic boxer with some other weird quirks thrown in. We originally thought maybe he was a Dogo Argentino, but when we started looking some more, we thought American Bulldog with some boxer thrown in. We got the test and gave him the ol' swab in the mouth - he didn't really like it too much, but fortunately only a couple seconds of swabbing between his cheek and gums was enough for the test. Sent it off, got the confirmation in a few days, then the results in about 2 weeks. Much to our amazement, he is 75% boxer, 12.5% American Bulldog, and 12.5% Standard Bulldog! Here's where people get bent out of shape about this product: they think that it can magically discern everything in your dog's bloodline, and that your dogs looks have to comport with their genetics. Not so much. If you have a true mutt (e.g. a dog whose parents were mutts, and whose grandparents were also mutts), it's not going to help you. It's going to come back as a mixed breed. These DNA tests can't go back an infinite number of generations. It's testing DNA, not doing a genealogy project on your pupper. Similarly, I've seen several reviews were the reviewers say, "Oh this says my dog is part chihuahua but he's 50 pounds! It must be wrong!" Again, not quite. Just because your dog has the genetics of a certain breed does not mean that those genes are *expressed* in your dog's appearance. Just as with humans, just because we have certain genetics does not mean that we physically exhibit each of those genetic traits. Thus, if you understand the product's limitations, this is a great tool to give you some insight into your furry friend. ... show more

    • Great Test. Easy to Use. Took LONG Time for Results
We weren't sure if our Anatolian Shepherd was purebred as we got her from a county shelter in North Carolina. She looked like the pictures we saw online. The people at the shelter said she was a purebred. My teenager said she wasn't. I (her dad) said she was. We got the test and, although it took a long time to get the response, I was right! She's 100% Anatolian Shepherd and I get the satisifaction of being right about something -- worth every penny LOL! ... show more

I can only assume this was accurate. We had loads of fun with it, because my daughter-in-law was dying to know what breeds made up the mutt they accidentally adopted. She and my granddaughter were driving out in the countryside and a puppy came bounding out of the roadside ditch and sat down in front of their car. They canvassed the farms in the area and no one claimed him. Of course, they had to take him home. He had such an odd-ball personality and so many peculiar, mismatched physical characteristics that they were dying to know "what IS this guy?" They couldn't afford to buy a test, so I treated them to this one. It had a high rating on a site I don't remember the name of. Anyway, "Clyde" is mostly a mix of herding breeds. Now all grown up, still a goofball, handsome yet slightly odd looking, loved by his humans and the other three dogs in the household. He's happy to be alive every day, running around on a huge property in N. California. ... show more

Great way to better know the DNA makeup of your shelter pup so, you can train them accordingly. Easy to use. Took longer than expected for the results. But, has a great app to keep you informed. A wonderful way to answer and start a conversation with someone who says while admiring your pup “ cute dog! What breed are they?” Now you’ll have even more to share besides, “I dunno .
