Since 2010 I have been kayak angling and using many different products including paddles. And since joining the kayak angling tournament trails in 2015 I have required products that are incredibly dependable and durable. Every advantage possible is needed during a season. I spent the 2019 tournament season with the Wilderness Systems, Alpha Angler Carbon paddle. It has been the most outstanding paddle ever put in my hand. The large, rock solid blades allow for the most user input possible, moving a ton of water with only one stroke. The paddle was put through its paces and the abuse a tournament season ensues, and the result was a true champion. I am truly impressed with the ultra light weight of only 27 ounces and the ability to change from 240cm to 260cm on the fly with the brilliantly made Leverlock, adjustable ferrule. This feature gives me the ability to have the perfect length paddle regardless if I am paddling my Radar kayak on a lake or Commander kayak on small back water creeks. Several years ago I spent an entire tournament season renting different paddles from our local paddle sport retailer in search of something that was both light and effective. Knowing that I average 15-20 miles on a typical tournament day my paddle is an extremely important piece of equipment. I settled on a Werner blade and said that nothing would ever change my mind. . .I lied! The Alpha Angler Carbon by Wilderness Systems is lighter than my old Werner Shuna, considerably more efficient based on observations from my fitness tracker, and my favorite part is the adjustability. I paddle a narrow kayak that requires a 240cm paddle and a larger kayak that needs a 260cm paddle. Prior to purchasing the Alpha Angler Carbon I had to buy two separate paddles, one for each kayak. And I must admit, I have made it to the water with the wrong length paddle at least a few times. Now I have one paddle that does the job of both and it does so exceptionally well.
