Was about to pull the trigger on a $200 home video surveillance system, then I found a recommendation online to go with a swann system. Found this one on Amazon, looked good and the reviews seemed good so I jumped on it. Arrvied quick from Amazon. Noticed immediately that this is a well made, quality system. Nothing seemed "cheap" and it was well packaged, with DVR in one box and sets of 4 cameras in the two other boxes. Dry ran the dvr and a camera in my living room, everything seemed fine. Then I installed the DVR in a closet that has access to the attic, no problem except for the fact that I had to use a wireless access point to connect to the internet. From there I installed the cameras, running the cable through the attic to points outside my home. This is probably the hardest part of the install. I recommend getting a fish tape to help pulling the cables. Once you get the cable outside you can "dry fit" the cameras from the rough to exact locations. Using the Iphone app I could test place the camera and see exactly what I would get. The articulation on the base of each camera takes a little getting used to, but by the time you're on your second camera it's pretty much old hat. Expect to tweak the cameras at least a couple of times after mounting to get the right location. Video is crisp, but no way it's HD. I access the dvr using iOS and Windows apps. Haven't completely figured it out yet, but seems pretty easy to configure. I have to find the sweet spot on notifications though. It hits my iphone way too much when the leaves on a tree move or the dog goes outside. Bottom line is that this is a solid system, easily worth the $300 cost. And it looks like it'll do the job for a long time. ... show more

We used this system to replace a NightOwl camera system, and they're quite nice. Clarity and color is good, installation and set-up is straightforward; we did have to call tech support to get the app installed and working, but they were pleasant and helpful.

The media could not be loaded. The imagen is very clear, but the trasmition for de app have delay and no matter internet cuz dvr is connecting with 300 Mb and My Smartphone is on stable wifi connection of 150mb

I wanted a very simple dvr system for the house and this is working really well so far! The cameras aren’t crystal clear, but for the price I’m still pleasantly surprised. Took me a few hours to run wires to get everything set up. If you’re relatively handy, setting the system up is actually a fun little project! My biggest complaint is that the power supply for the cameras can only power two cameras. I ordered a third camera for the system, and it came with its own power supply. I ended up buying a 4-way splitter to power the 3 cameras... I was definitely running out of room on my power strip. You’ll also have to buy a monitor to display/playback. I additionally purchased some junction/mounting boxes for the cameras. I’d recommend that if the plugs will be out in the elements. I currently don’t have the system set up to my internet or have access to live feeds on my phone through the app, so I can’t speak for how well that function works. All in all, for the price, I was really surprised how easily everything was set up and with how well it’s worked over the past month or so that it’s been set up. If I have any issues I’ll update the review, but for now I’m extremely happy with it! ... show more

I bought this to monitor a home that I have that is about 1000 miles from my regular home so making changes once I leave is out of the question. I heavily depend on a rock stable system that I can remotely access via my Android phone to make sure my remote property is doing ok. it's only been a week but so far so good. The bad news is that I just learned today that the firmware / software needs updating to become fully functional and I am too far away to do that now. What's really annoying is that I did attempt to update the device before I left and when I attempted to update the message about the update said only something about the update needing to update for iPhones (which I do not use) and nothing else leaving me completely in the dark that I needed to do the update so figuring it'd be better to leave it alone instead of risking the update that didn't do anything for me4 and might break the device I did not do the update. Now I learned from Tech Support that it does far more than that. I wish someone who handles these updates and writes the descriptions about them would get fired because their incompetence cause me considerable trouble and inconvenience. If you won't be near your DVR after setting it up and will have no way to update it...... UPDATE YOUR DVR BEFORE YOU LEAVE IT. Other than that I am very pleased with the night vision and clarity. However, this is prone to diminish over time and only time will tell. I'll do an update a year from now if they are still working. The phone app is rather limited compared to other DVR apps that had FAR more functionality. Some allow me to make full administrative changes via the remote Android app even going so far as to remotely update the firmware and reboot the system, changing camera resolution settings and a wide array of settings. So I find this Swann app and it's functionality extremely basic. Nonetheless, if it's stable over time and I can continue to see my remote property I will be satisfied. UPDATE July 20 2022 The system has been installed and running 24/7 now in my remote home for 3 solid months. Over that first 3 months I have had no problems from the system until today. Today, one of the 4 cameras began to glitch and go offline, then back online, then offline and the image looked terrible as if a microwave beam hit it or something, but nothing is around to do anything like that. After about 10 minutes of this it went back to normal. But I'm concerned it may come back. It gave me nearly 50 rapid fire alert notifications during that 10 minutes. Fortunately, I happened to be at the remote location so I can check it out. If I had been 1000 miles away I would have really been worried. OTHER THAN THAT.... The system has served me well and slightly better than expected. I've been getting notifications of any movement at the property (usually birds or bugs too close to the camera lens). The color and night vision is on par with a good $250 camera system. I'm happy with the clarity and would rate it a true 1080p. For the last 3 months I've been nearly 1000 miles from this camera setup and it didn't fail me. Being able to see my property was a GREAT comfort to me. I did install a surge protector and battery backup for it. I'm only concerned about the camera glitching that occurred today. Will update if it gets worse. I ordered a new power supply to go ahead and replace the one that came with the system since I know this is the heart of the system and they do fail over time. Hopefully that heads off any potential problems that I cannot resolve when I'm far away from the camera system. Update in 3 more months. ... show more
