Top Amazon Reviews

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

Reviewers praised the Midea Duo Portable AC for its power and efficiency, despite it having a few design inconveniences. They highlighted how the unit is able to quickly cool a room while remaining relatively quiet and using less electricity than comparable units. However, users found the hose/window kit difficult to install, particularly on casement windows, and the unit's short power cord and black exterior parts that can absorb heat proved to be a drawback. Regardless, many were impressed by the AC's performance and quiet operation.

Pros

  • 🔹 Powerful and efficient cooling
  • 🔹 Quiet operation
  • 🔹 Energy efficient thanks to inverter technology

Cons

  • 🔸 Short power cord
  • 🔸 Difficult installation, particularly on casement windows
  • 🔸 Exterior parts are black, which may absorb heat and cause warping

Should I Buy It?

If you are in need of an efficient, quiet, and powerful portable AC, this device could be a suitable option. However, be aware of the potential installation challenges and other minor drawbacks before making a purchase.

  • It is very quiet and newer dual hose in hose technology
Color: Black Size: 12,000 BTU-Dual hose
I've had this unit for only 3 weeks now and so far so good. I will try and write another one after a few months. What's good about it is the vents that blow out the cold air are a wide output and plus it has a swivel that blows the air up and down so it makes the air go in all directions and if you don't like that you can just set it on One Direction. All the other units that I looked at only had it blowing up from the top of the AC unit which to me defeats the whole purpose of getting to lower levels of the room where you will be sitting or lying down. The compressor is very quiet and so is the fan. It has a sleep mode that a lot of units do not have and it saves on electricity. The new design of a dual hose unit that is two hoses in one is genius! It comes with an adapter that snaps right in and you can keep the hose straight and not have to twist it. Now everybody complains about the window assembly kit and what a pain in the butt it is but that is like that on any portable AC unit you buy. The plastic screw posts don't push in all the way but just enough for you to push in for it to stop the panels from sliding and I recommend you put those plastic babies on both sides of the sliding panel. You will also need to use tape like clear packing tape or duct tape to the back side of the panel to keep it from loosening or sliding down. I have a Long window height and there was extra extended panels that made it go all the way to the top so that was great. You will notice a tiny bit of some air gaps around the adapter clamps and the hose but it's negligible. When I did research there were only two models out there that were dual hose in hose units, the Midea and the Dreo. They both look very similar except for one important factor is that the Dreo blows cold air from the top and doesn't have a big vent that swivels like the Midea, and I liked it because it was black and modern looking I used to have a white one and it eventually turned an ugly yellow color. The one thing I can say that can use Improvement are that the LED panel is hard to read on the unit itself at night time. It should have had much more backlight and the letters are hard to read and I fear as the unit gets older that the display is going to be harder to see the white letters. Also the remote control back light so you can see the display on the remote control longer is always turning off after just a few seconds and doesn't give you enough time to see the letters or numbers. But I do keep it near my bed on the table so that the AC unit can get the proper temperature of the room from the remote control. I almost always use the Midea app to control the AC unit from my living room so I don't have to get up. This unit has great blowing distance and I can feel the air blowing from all the way across the room and it also cools off my kitchen as well as my living room. I usually keep it on 77 and it quietly goes low when it reaches that temperature and then turns off and then automatically turns on when it needs to and it doesn't make a loud sound when it turns on it's a very nice gradual sound. I haven't gotten my electric bill yet but I am expecting it to be lower than it was with a single hose unit that I had. When you get the unit shipped make sure to have paid for the $10 charge for them to deliver it into your home as it is 72 lb. To open the box cut off the straps and then open the top and take out the attachments and then lift the Box straight up and it will separate the bottom part and you can lift the whole box above and out of the unit. It caught me by surprise because I was wondering how in the world am I going to lift a 72 lb unit all the way up from a tall box. The units specs are excellent it has 12,000 BTU and SACC of 10,000 which is more energy efficient. I also bought the 4-year Asurion protection plan which gives me great piece of mind. I hope this helps you all that are considering this great portable AC unit. And please reply if you have any questions or comments about my review:-) ... show more

  • This is the one to get. Super cool!
Color: Black Size: 12,000 BTU-Dual hose
06/04/2023 UPDATE: I've had the unit Since Aug of 2021, and it's up on a table to raise it higher so I could intall the drain hose to the unit, and have the drain hose exit the window. About a week ago, I started having issues with it throwing a P1 code, drain pan full. Well, I checked outside, and water was still slowly dripping. I powered off and unplugged the unit, and it word ok for a while, then threw another P1 code. So, I figure after nearly 2 years of constant daily use, the drain plug/tube connector at the bottom may have an issue. We used a skinny wire nylon brush, and stuck it as far up the connector as possible, and ohhh man, it pulled out some nasty gunk. This was probably backing up the drain plug tube into the "drain pan" because there was some water down at the bottom of the unit. Once I got all the gunk out with the nylon brush wire, I took my air compressor and a generic air sprayer tool and blew compressed air up into the drain hole several times. There were also two other small tubes - one near the coils and one a bit further down, and also blew them out with compressed air. Buttoned everything back up, and booyah, no more P1 code!! I really do love this AC, it keeps the room super cold, and saves money on the central AC. I know some of the units seem to have QC issues, but this one is still rocking strong, just needed to clean out the drain plug as explained above. So, if you start getting a P1 out of nowhere, when everything was fine and you're using a draining tube -- this may be your issue. Hope to save someone some time with this fix. Cool! Will update again if anything new happens. I rarely write reviews, but this deserves a review. Here in the deep south, it gets extremely hot and humid. Central A/C bills can go through the roof. This unit is perfect for the master bedroom, and we don't have to run the central A/C during the daytime. Installation was straightforward. If you use it a lot, you WILL need to connect the supplied clear tubing to the drain spout and run it out the window--we just cut a hole in the size of the tube in the window exhaust plate, and it works great. Had to raise the unit up a bit for gravity to do it's thing. This unit cools FAST and efficient. The remote is decent. And best of all, I can get the bedroom to 62 degrees in the dead of summer if I want to, no problem. Highly recommended. ... show more
