Spent hours installing. Finally went to plug it in and found that the plug was not a standard size like other window units. This can not be corrected with an adapter. You need an electrician to come and install a different outlet for this plug.

I installed this unit in the 2nd story of a 2 story 1100 sq. ft. weekend cabin. It replaced a Whirlpool 25,000 that gave it up after 23 years. We'll see if I can get that longevity out of this LG unit, but I'll likely not be around for the birthday. I've only had it on once to test everything out, and one thing for sure, IT COOLS quickly! (I have a floor register with built in fan in the corner of the room in which it's mounted, so that it air conditions the whole house surprisingly well.) It's definitely not as loud as the Whirlpool, so that's welcome. One of the big selling points of the model I bought is the Wi-Fi capability, as I find it very appealing to be able to turn it on and have the house cool before I go there. I've installed the software on my phone, and it works well. One thing that is mentioned in the reviews several times are the instructions. Unless you have a few window unit installations under your belt, they are laughably vague and just plain weird. Some of the detail drawings are NOT to scale, which makes it even more tricky. That being said, I had an existing opening (not a window), with existing outside supports, which I utilized rather than the 2 mounting brackets that came with the unit. I don't see how this unit could POSSIBLY be installed without additional outside support!! It's just too much weight hanging out there. Keep that in mind. Order a support if this is a new install. (Remember this is the 18,000 BTU model... others may be lighter and balanced such that the brackets would work fine.) Nowhere in the instructions is outside support this mentioned! Should be one of the main warnings in my mind! The units I've had in that cabin (this is the third in 43 years) all have had visibly draining water. This one does not... the drain hole has a (easily removable) rubber plug in it, and nothing about removing it in the instructions. The instructions do indicate that it is normal to have 1/2" of water in the pan during operation, and the condenser fan is designed to pick up water in the bottom of the unit and "sling" it into the coils. All in all, I'm really happy with the features and the price I paid. The unit was VERY well packaged by the manufacturer. I was impressed. Some reviews mention damage... my shipping box had some mashed corners, but the contents were pristine. I'll update in the future as necessary. ... show more

    • It’s so loud
Great that it cools quick and can be controlled via my phone, but it’s so loud when the compression kicks on, I can’t hear anything else. The contrast between when the compressor kicks on and turns off is like day and night. I want to return it but it’s over 100 lbs and moving it is such a pain. For the price, guess I’ll deal with it until something better comes along. ... show more

After having to carry such a heavy machine. I turned it on and it didn't work at all. This is supposed to be brand new and it's a hunk of junk. It's so heavy that I hurt my back and don't know how I will refund it.
