I was skeptical and waited for more than a year to make this purchase. I'm really glad I finally talked my self into it when the bundle was on sale -- it came with two batteries - one 7.5 and one 5.0 (plus I got two with the trimmer bundle -- 4.0 and 2.5). I have cut my grass twice with this so far and am extremely pleased. The first time I cut my lawn was the day it arrived - I used the 5.0 that had arrived a day or two earlier and was fully charged. I had it set to trim on level 2 of 8 ... openly it did cut off a few times in a tall/thick patch (but so did my previous mower in that same spot). I went through the 5.0 battery and had to use the 4.0 to finish my quarter-acre yard. (I chalked this us to being too low) ... plus I found out it had the mulching blade on it (I didn't bother to check it before I cut- derka derka). The second time I used it, I switched to the bagging blade, used a fully charged 7.5, and lifted to level 3 of 8. I made it though the entire yard on the single battery! Perhaps it's just the greenness of spring, but I sincerely don't think I have ever gotten as good of a cut as I have with the EGo. What's interesting to me is that I usually only had to empty the bag twice with my old mower, but with this I have to about 6 times, so it must be doing it well. Surprisingly, the weight of the bag when full does not slow the mower down. The self-propel works great as an assist but honestly it's so light you likely don't even need it. My son likes the LED lights and I dig the phone holder to stop my pocket dials (happened a few times). When we unboxed and started getting a feel for it, my son even said it was so much fun he might start cutting the grass. For reference, my previous mower is a Husqvarna with a Honda engine. I'll return with an update if anything changes ... but for now, I'm seeing what other tools they offer ... show more

Very Nice Things: (1) Twin blade “select cut” is quite effective at giving a neat cut. I’m guessing the arrangement provides a bit more lift to provide an even cut, even with the standard mulching blade. (2) Mulching seems better than my previous EGO, even traversing in a few longer areas of grass I have caused no clumping as the machine powered through and chopped the blades nicely. Probably that second blade effectiveness again. (3) Runtime seemed a bit longer, but that may just be my wishful thinking. (4) Headlights are a bit brighter. (5) I like the sleek and sporty design, including the way the headlights are integrated. I definitely be styling when cutting my grass, and enjoy the envious looks of my neighbors! Continued good stuff (reason I bought the EGO again): (1) Quiet for me and neighborhood. (2) No hassles with gas, oil, spark plugs, air filter & such. (3) Light & maneuverable. (4) Interchangeability of the batteries with the five other EGO tools I enjoy. But … (don’t you hate that word?): the one negative for me so far is the solution for engaging the self- propelling feature. The two embedded switches in the handle are not as holistic a user interface as the previous model. First time I used the new mower I wanted to move it over two feet after putting battery in; when putting my hand on the handle to give it a slight shove I unintentionally engaged the embedded switch and the mower started zipping away. Same thing when cutting; I typically use the drive when going up the slight rise in my front yard but not at other times and I find it counterintuitive to position my hands on the handle such that it doesn’t engage (particularly when maneuvering the mower when your hands tend to move around a bit). Vice-a-versa, once engaged if your hands move slightly it disengages too easily. I guess I could dial the speed back to zero after disengaging, but repeatedly dialing that off and on (and finding right speed when on) would be a PIA. I liked the previous scheme of the lever you would pull back to lie against the handle much better - was a more conscious and positive step to engage the drive, and easier to keep engaged as your hand moves about a bit on the handle. Safer too, IMHO. Maybe I’ll get used it it over time and find a new Zen, but (there is that dang word again) I doubt it. Overall a fine mower I definitely would buy again. I just hope EGO goes back to the previous drive engagement scheme sometime in the next ten years before I buy my next EGO mower! ... show more

I sold my first Ego mower to make purchasing an upgraded Ego mower more economical. Sold my seven years old and perfectly functioning mower to a nice fellow who has stayed in touch and tells me he too is splendidly shocked by the power, efficency, maneuverability and versatility of the mower while I am having an equally enjoyable time with this new select cut: wider, more powerful, self-propelled and as pleasurable to use as it's predecessor. The 4.0Ah was fine for my large yards and was to the day I sold it (7 years on the battery) I don't require the 7.5Ah in this new mower but its comforting to know the surplus energy is available for my other Ego tools and the price for battery and mower was pleasurably reasonable. I don't cut weeds, or huge tufts of unkempt foliage, but if you've a gasoline mower in a standard size (18-22 inches deck width) you know they'll bog down if overworked. No different with the Ego. If you're cutting your yard(s) when they reach a reasonable height, the Ego will do more than any standard mower you've ever owned. With very little upkeep/ maintenence. If you're going to run it through garbage, probably better off with a Briggs and Stratton or similarly priced gasoline mower. So when it stalls and dies you need not be overly disappointed. The Ego performs reliably, consistently and is fun to use. I have ZERO complaints. Also, I am very tall. My previous Ego handle adjusted just high enough and higher than anything I've ever tried. This one goes even higher. I am soo very pleased. Has more adjustability than its predecessor. Thank you, Ego, for rendering a tedious chore a satisfying experience. Every time. ... show more
