I use to have a Wal-Mart Relion Ultima meter that I loved but they suddenly discontinued it and its strips and replaced it with an awful product that requires huge amounts of blood so I was in the market for a new meter. I have insulin issues but am not diagnosed as diabetic so my insurance pays for none of my supplies. I need an affordable meter that the strips don't cost a fortune. This one is FABULOUS. It came pre-stocked with 50 strips and as many lancets!!! It's also super easy to use after taking a quick look at the instructions and needs only the tiniest drop of blood inside the tip of the strip. The lancing device is not as intuitive as it should be but it came with a very nice one, currently I'm puting new lancets in my old Relion lancer that has stayed with me because of its ease of use however. The packaging says it was suppose to have a logbook but that appears to be missing from the package. Some repackaging seems to have occured because one place on the box says it comes with 100 strips and a sticker over the system contents and the Amazon description says it includes 50, that would be my only complaint about the product is the repackaging job done on it. ... show more

After an unending fight with my insurance company and my desire to avoid ever using another OneTouch product, I did a lot of research and ended up purchasing this meter since it uses a very small (0.5 microliter) blood sample, allows for alternate site testing, and had very good reviews. (I am an insulin-dependent diabetic who tests her BG 3-5x/d, depending). Plus, strips are available on Amazon Prime and cost just a little more than my copay would be for OneTouch strips (no no no no no, never again). The meter itself is much bigger than it appears, way clunkier than my Freestyle Lite (the only meter I've ever truly loved, which my insurance will no longer cover). That said, testing is basically painless in my forearms, strips were easy to use after screwing up the first 2-3 (small learning curve), and the readings I was getting were about the same as with my Freestyle meter, so decent accuracy. After my first strips ran out, I purchased new strips on Amazon Prime with no problem. So cheap and quick! It did concern me that the control solution does not come with the meter, and despite what CareTouch's website says, was not at all available on Amazon. But I figured, eh, I don't really need it. Once those strips ran out a few weeks ago, I came to buy more. No longer available on Amazon Prime, estimated delivery 2-3 weeks out, 150% of the price. What? What? What? I only had half a bottle of strips left, so I started to panic. I had purchased this meter believing that strips would be quickly and cheaply available when I needed them -- it is literally WHY I chose this meter. Maybe it was a supply issue? I tried to contact CareTouch. I messaged them on Facebook and got a robot. The robot couldn't answer my questions -- why were the strips no longer on Amazon Prime? When would they be back on Amazon Prime? If I purchase strips through the CareTouch website (THE ONLY OTHER PLACE TO POSSIBLY GET THEM), how long would shipping take? There is no shipping information available on the website. There's very little information on the website at all. A day later, a person (maybe?) answered one of my questions (shipping from their website takes 7-10 business days) and none of the others, and no one has ever responded to my follow-up questions, making me think that it's actually just another robot. I called the number on their website. Not only does no one ever pick up (despite allegedly having an office in Brooklyn), but their voicemail box is full. Every request for an operator in their horrible phone maze would route me to a different mailbox for a different area of their company, and most were full. I ended up leaving a voicemail two weeks ago in the box for Adelphius Sales (???) that I was routed to, and STILL have not yet received a call back. I ended up ordering strips from their website, which was the only option I felt I had, especially once the strips disappeared from Amazon all together and for a time were only available from third party sellers (for triple the price). They shipped on Oct 7 and I received a tracking number, but the package was lost for a time in the USPS system and I spent a few days panicking about how I was going to request another shipment if my package was truly lost, considering there is NO CUSTOMER SERVICE AT THIS COMPANY WHATSOEVER. Guess I'd just have to do a chargeback on my card and roll the dice by ordering again? How fun this has all been! I use test strips to dose insulin. I cannot continue my medication regimen without being able to check my BG, and I cannot live without insulin. To set up an automated supply chain (from China, likely) using a shell company allegedly based in the US, for a necessary medical supply, and then ABANDON it with no customer service once people have begun to rely on it is not only irresponsible, it's dangerous. I am genuinely infuriated for what I've had to go through just to keep using this meter (the other option was to pay out of pocket for a $$$ vial of Freestyle strips since any other option would have taken too long and I would have run out of strips). I have been rationing the ones I have left until the new vials get here. I plan to keep using this meter until I get better insurance, because the options are truly limited, and because the meter itself is perfectly fine. As of today, it looks like test strips are again available on Prime (still for a few dollars more than they originally cost), but you're purchasing this meter at your own risk. Apparently strips will just become unavailable for an undetermined length of time and there will be no one to help you if you need them. Any BG meter without access to strips is completely worthless.
