abunda_amazon_reviews I used the XShot on my first ever outing with my new GoPro HERO3 Black edition. It gripped the camera like a champ with no noticeable shake. I used it at the Lima Fair and rode the most extreme rides they had. At no point did the XShot perform in a way that made me nervous my much more expensive GoPro video camera would fall off. The video speaks for itself. __________________________ Ist update: Although the XShot is not listed as being waterproof it is made of aluminum which is waterproof. I used this on a turtle dive in salt water and didn't get around to giving it a fresh water wash down until several hours later. No rust but it did get a little harder to open afterwards. This is easily fixed by applying WD-40 waterproof silicone spray. I use this with a GoPro and it works fantastically like it. The one thing I have to knock it down for is I lent it to a friend to go to the Bahamas with and when she gave it back, it was very hard to open and close - I think it might've rusted a bit or gotten sand into places. I couldn't extend/compress it easily and I could not tighten the head unit because it was impossible to turn the knob. I used WD-40 and that REALLY helped with the extending and retracting. I had to use pliers and WD40 to losen the head unit knob, but no matter how much I turned the knob it wouldn't tighten. It's the last part for which I knocked off a star. The unit becomes pretty useless if the head unit can't be tightened because then the camera just flops around uselessly. It's an effective, affordable solution (you can easily spend $50 on fit-for-scuba models that don't close up as compact). The first one lasted 3 years, which is pretty good for all that exposure to salt water - eventually, the shaft got so hard to telescope that I snapped the plastic mount at the end trying to close it. I also use it with my GoPro Hero 3+ with tripod attachment. The best way to use it for couples-selfies is as follows. Have one person hold the Xshot while the other one adjusts the camera zoom, tilt head, and framing. Once the camera positioning is good, the person holding the Xshot should pretend that the camera is a gun sight, and line it up with something stationary in the background (building, mountain top, tree branch, etc). The other person should then activate the self timer, press the shutter, then join the other person in the photo (or use a remote). Voila, excellent vacation photos. You can also use this as a mini monopod in low light. Rest it on a table or railing or car and you have gained some extra stability for those evening shots. You can also use it to shoot from new perspectives. Hold it up high to shoot over a crowd (use a remote or the self timer). Hold the camera low to get a bug's eye view. With this monopod (I REFUSE to call it a selfie stick) you never have to worry about asking for somebody to take your picture. Also, you can get some pretty cool shots you couldn't get otherwise. One thing to keep in mind, if you plan on using this with your GoPro, you MUST buy a tripod mount! It does NOT come with one. You will NOT be able to attach this to your GoPro without a tripod mount! Another thing I noticed is this Camera extender does not like water. I brought it snorkeling and in the Caribbean, and within that week there was some rust and difficulty closing and opening the monopod. I would recommend this product to the solo traveler, anyone who wants to stop asking people to take pictures of them, and anyone who lives their GoPro or other camera!
