  • awesome, easy-to-use propane grill; 2.5 hours assembly time
Color: Stainless Steel Style: Liquid Propane
For the past almost 40 years, I've had a found Weber charcoal grill. It works great for cooking certain meats, but has a lot of negatives: 1) you have to pile up the charcoal, spread on the lighter fluid, and ignite; 2) you have to wait for the coals to get hot enough; 3) you have a limited amount of time to use the coals before they consume themselves; 4) if the meat you are cooking has lots of fat or oils, the coals flare up, and have to be smothered with the top of the gril. So, all in all, not very easy to use. I have several friends with propane grills, and I used one last month in Seattle, and another earlier this month on Orcas Island. When I grilled chicken pieces recently on my charcoal grill, I had serious problems with flare ups. So I found this Weber Propane grill, ordered it on a Sunday, and it was delivered on Wednesday near the start of my 6a-9a delivery window. We invited friends over for dinner at 6:00p that evening, and I didn't start on the assembly process until 2:30p, expecting it would be a quick 45 minute job. Oops. It took me 2.5 hours. ONLY COMPLAINT: The instructions are very bare-bones, and the printed instructions DO NOT AGREE with the electronic instructions available on the recommended mobile app. I actually had to refer to BOTH the printed and electronic instructions to make sure I was assembling the grill correctly. I got a Blue Rhino propane canister at the grocery store, connected it, and the grill fired up right away. Wednesday night I grilled sliced zucchini, sliced red peppers, sliced portabello mushrooms, two kinds of sausages, and beef NY steaks. On Thursday, I grilled portabellos again, asparagus, and nopales (cactus leaves). Followed by whole branzino (lightly stuffed with herbs and lemon slices). They all turned out beautifully. NOTE: An electronic meat thermometer is a must to ensure the correct level of doneness for steaks and chicken. There is a clever spring-loaded holder for the propane canister, which attempts to indicate the gas level remaining in the canister (the canister gets lighter, holder rises on its track). This is better than nothing, but imprecise. [You could imagine a gas flow meter and pressure sensor, along with a microprocessor and a digital display, that estimates how many minutes of grilling time you have left. Instead, I'm going to get a second propane canister, so I can switch over.] I bought a metal wire brush (from Weber) to clean the grilling racks. And the other parts that get dirty seem to be easy to remove and clean. ... show more

  • Great grill.. almost as good as Weber Grills of old.
Color: Black Style: Liquid Propane
On its own merits, the Genesis II is a high quality grill, feature rich with the cooking power you'd expect from a Weber. The 3 burners, plus the side burner, do the job as expected and so far cooking burgers, hot dogs, steaks, roasts, and chicken has been a breeze. The electric ignition is flawless, and even the flavorizer bars have handy cutouts to make sure the burners are lit. I especially appreciate the styling, along with the utility of the cabinet for storing tools and the location of the drip pan for easy access. Some have complained about difficulties with assembly, but I didn't have any issues with it other than it was a bit time consuming. The only thing that lets the side down is the build quality. Having had experience with the older Weber Genesis Silver grill, which was built like a tank, I was expecting the Genesis II to be just as tough. But the burner knobs seem a little on the flimsy side, and the front panel had an issue when one of the plastic hangers on top broke off during assembly. Thankfully, I was able to glue it back on and resolve the issue without having to pay $100 for a replacement part. Also, if you intend to keep the stainless steel streak free I recommend investing in a microfiber cloth for cleaning... paper towels are a definite no-no. Now if you're ordering from Amazon be prepared to wait for your Weber... in our case our original delivery date, which was two weeks from our order date, was pushed back an additional two weeks as Amazon was late in delivering the grill to a 3rd party shipper. A complication to be expected with such a large order, but nevertheless still inconvenient. All in all, I consider the Genesis II to be a worthwhile investment. Despite its imperfections, it cooks so well that it most assuredly lives up to the Weber name. ... show more

  • You Do Get What You Pay For
Color: Stainless Steel Style: Liquid Propane
We have yet to try the Bar B Que other than turn all of the burners on and off. If necessary I will add more on this later. However it is a very sturdy unit! It looks great but with use we will see. The 10 year warranty was a deal clincher for me, but I hope we never have to use it. Outside of the overall good looks I like the burner control knobs with an added red colored pointer on the knob itself to show you exactly where the knob is pointed to (not painted on). I also like the ability to see how much, (by the weight of the propane tank), just how much gas is left in the propane tank. I like the heavy stainless steel grilling racks so you don't have to think about them rusting. I also insisted on a unit with the self contained burner, (electricity shut-offs due to knocked down utility poles happen all to often) which looks heavy duty. Nothing functional on this unit looks "Tinny" or "Chincy". Some of the stainless steel trim (which is not a lot) could be of a little heavier material thickness. The assembly instructions took some getting used to but it can be followed and gets the job done. The assembly booklet is mainly made up of pictures with a reference to the identified fastener packets with just a few printed words where absolutely necessary. But what can one expect from an assembly book that is made for three different languages. Our unit did have the igniters "pushed down" so they shorted out on the burners themselves. Easy fix by just repositioning them. This could have been a safety feature during the igniter box assembly process. I am very pleased with the purchase and would recommend it to others.. ... show more
