Item arrived quickly and well packaged. The printed manual came in handy to setup the PID controller for the right temperature. It's simple enough to pick your desired temperature (in deg F) and start melting metal. The included crucible seems well made with no obvious casting defects and seems like it could last a long time. My only gripes are as follows: 1. The crucible tongs included were a little off and were rusted out of the box. I had to bend the tongs down evenly to get them to hold the crucible. 2. The metal mesh guard around the unit has very sharp corners. A little time with a file smoothed this down. 3. The part that holds the crucible centered in the heating chamber cracked the first time I used the furnace to melt aluminum. It cracked during my first 220F heat up to drive any moisture the crucible had in it. I contacted the company and they shipped another one out free of charge. A+ customer support. ... show more

After a lot of research I decided to purchase this product for Christmas. I wasn’t sure due to some negative reviews, but it’s a fantastic product. Really easy to use if you follow the instructions. At low temp settings even if you turn it off, the temperature will continue to rise but that’s normal, exactly as it would with any other oven. The temp dial works perfectly well and the oven heats extremely quickly. It’s very convenient compared to a propane furnace. My coil did burn out prematurely, but the company offered a replacement or a refund really quickly, no questions asked. Just because of the extraordinary customer service I would strongly recommend anyone considering buying it to do so. You’ll love the product and it’s a safe bet when there’s a strong customer service team with a company that truly cares about its customers and stands behind its products. ... show more

I seasoned both the crucible and the coil according to the directions. At 200 increments until reaching 2000. I set it to 2000 to start smelting copper. I smelted a couple bars. It appeared to be running hotter and was exactly on 2000 even thought its supposed to fluctuate naturally. I turned it off then back on, only for it to read 2300. I shut it off, and attempted to pull the crucible out. Was slightly stuck due to possible copper getting in there. It ended up being the thermal coupler inside the hole that melted and stuck to the crucible. I notified the company and they sent me a new one out with a shipping label for them to inspect it. I'm still giving them 5 stars because of that. ... show more

awe delivered. the copper took a while because i overloaded it initially. I'll share that experience, maybe it'll help you. Its such a good heat conductor that if you have thick pieces going up to the neck its going to deheat the lower pieces and not melt until the whole chamber top to bottom is uniformly >> melting temp. So follow the instructions on copper and other high temp melts - add little bit, when it melts, add more, etc.; the crucible heats bottom to top. ... show more

    • Seems great so far.
I just received the furnace. It seems very well built with solid construction. No flimsy heat shield or case. You do need to be careful when inserting the crucible to avoid the thermocouple in the chamber. Closing the lid also requires some care by moving the crucible towards the front of the unit then slowly lowering the lid. I’d also like to see instructions on changing the display unit to centigrade. I’ve reached out to customer service and will await their response. I’ll update after the burn in is finished and I get to do a pour. ... show more

The unit is perfect with great fit and finish. I warmed up the heating coils 200F at a time with a 5 minute dwell and let it soak at 2000F for an hour. After that I did my first brass casting in play sand bonded with silicone personal lubricant. Next time I buy petrobond red sand. This furnace and that sand will let me make all kinds of custom brass/ bronze/aluminum support brackets for my work... ... show more

Deffinitly recommend for getting into smelting. Quick and easy, works great. Heats up quickly, contains heat within its self better then thought it possible. This was my first buy after hours of research and price diffrence for quallity. overall i am very pleased and recommend. Pros -Heats up to 2000 Degrees to melt copper easilly. -Contains heat within itsself without radiating the heat around itself. -Easy to use and safer then gas smelters. Cons. -Needs to show what amperage and volts the product uses labbled on itself. i beleive this is doing around 12 amps and heats up a cable where its plugged into if its 12+ amps. 14 tripped a breaker getting to 2000 degrees. Have used it 3 times no issues. Smelted brass shells then copper wire. ... show more

This product is far and away a higher quality than the Chinese versions also on Amazon. I have had them too. But the BEST thing is it’s an American product and you get very fast, responsive customer service from this company.
