  • 100% worth the money.
I read a lot of complaints about packaging and quality of paint that had me worried but after receiving my paints I absolutely love them. I was painting 40k miniatures with simple hobby lobby paints and they did the trick but these are totally next level. Having all the colors really allow you to go through a wide spectrum even on little things. The metalics are some of the best I've used, the shade works great, the effects are really cool paints, an the standard paints are worth the money. You do have to shake some of them a long time to get it to mix properly but overall I love these paints. The box was a little beat up from shipping and unorganized but I took 3 minutes and color coordinated them. As for the box I don't plan on keeping it in the box long anyway since I am going to build a shelf for them. Edit: I finally dealt with the storage issue and built a shelf to hold them all. Took me probably 2 hours and some scrap wood someone was going to throw away. Makes me even happier with my purchase ... show more

  • Great pack for beginners and pros alike.
Been painting off-and-on for 15+ years now. I've used Citadel, Vallejo, P3, and Wal-Mart craft paint. Let's start with the pros: + Excellent value for your money. GW/Citadel charges $4.25+ for 12mL pots, while the paints in this package come to (roughly) $1.60 for 18 mL bottles. + The bottles are much better than painting pots. You can drop a precise amount of paint onto your palette and then cap it, saving paint in the long run. + The paints themselves are of high quality and tend to cover in one or two coats. Special mention must be made to the metallics, which avoid looking like 'glitter paint' and coat quite smoothly. + You get an excellent range of colors to get you started, as well as 4 washes/inks and 2 technical paints. + The brush is of good quality and the triangular shape fits well into your hand. + The holding trays make organizing your paints simple and easy. + The instruction manual gives good tips for beginners, in an easy-to-read format. And now the cons: - The bottles were not placed in any kind of order - reds were next to blues, metallics next to acrylics, etc. - Some of the bottle caps were askew, and one color had leaked into the package. - The holding trays don't work unless laying flat, so if you tip it over, your paints will drop out. - The biggest issue with Army Painter paints is that the acrylic medium and pigment tends to separate. This means you have to spend 30 seconds to several minutes shaking a pot before using it - if you don't, when you go to squirt your paint onto your palette, you'll get watery medium followed by thick pigment. All in all, this package is an immense value and I highly recommend it for anyone getting into the hobby. Or back into, in my case. :D ... show more

  • love the dark tone
Pros. *Great washes, love the dark tone. *Best metallics I have ever used *Awesome color range for a starter set *Love the regiment brush it comes with *The paint is thin, so about 2 coats for a solid color. some would call this a con, but for new painters it makes it so much easier to hide mistakes. *I love the dripper bottles. Never going back to paints in pots. Cons. *The paints separate, I really recommend buying beads to put in the bottles. *The tones can be a little too thick when working on small details. *Dries fast. This could be a pro, but if you plan on blending you will want to use an acrylic medium Conclusion. I love this set. Great for fantasy miniatures. if you plan on using it for Syfy you may need to mix the colors a little more. For example the gold in the set is too dark for a star wars C3P0, and the tones are a little too thick for a clean R2D2. ... show more

  • Great set for the price, but needed some help from the manufacturer
This is a great set for someone who wants to jump into war-game/RPG miniature painting with both feet. There are more colors then you could ever use, some handy ink washes, and even some after-effects like blood splatter and rust. The set includes a brush with a comfortable triangular handle. Not to be overlooked is the instructional pamphlet that comes with the set. If you're a novice painter, it does a great job of showing and instructing you how to get the most our of their products. It does try to sell you on their other products, but that's no surprise. The important thing to talk about here is the thin paint issue. Like other reviewers, at least 1/2 to 2/3 of the paints I tried came out way too thin. Painting the miniatures with these paints required at least 3 coats to get coverage. Even then, they didn't look great and came out shiny. I decided to email the manufacturer and I'm glad I did. Below is their response. I took their advice and stored the bottles upside down for 2 days. Then I gave them a shake before using them and the paint came out perfectly. The issue was solved. "You are doing the right thing contacting us, I hope I’ll be able to give some useful advice. Normally our Warpaints are thick and filled with pigment. Part of the chemical composition is a thin resin-component that aids the flow of the paint and prevents is from drying out. The problem could be that we fill the new paints right to the top of the pot, leaving very little air inside the pots. That means it is very hard to shake the pot thoroughly. Imagine the difference when shake a filled water bottle or a half empty water bottle. Same thing here. Here’s a trick that I think will help you. Try to store your Warpaints pots upside down. Leave them like that for 24-48 hours and then the pigment should have moved down (into the tip). You still need to give them a good shake and the first few drops might still be see-through resin base. However the paint should be excellent, it just needs a good shake :-) Another option is to take one of the colours and do a test. Simply squeeze out about 1/4 of the pot (or less) until the paint that comes out is all thick. That should show you that the paint is good, but the resin-component causes the issue. The downside of this, is that you might need to add a little water to this particular paint when you use it. Please let us know if this has helped or not. Cheers!" ... show more
