What I LOVE about this machine
My opinion is based on only a few weeks of loads actually washed. What I LOVE about this machine, verses the former only 5 year old Maytag ruined due to lid lock freezing mid cycle simply because electricity outage during cycle broke the lid lock mechanism causing $300 repair quote.. #1) The water actually fills up the basin to top. This means my cloths actually get completed wet, soaked with water. The dumb Maytag filled barely 6 inches, and I suffered with 5 years of partially dry soiled, dirty, smelly cloths, never cleaned right. The Water level is so important and will allow the machine to properly clean and sanitize dirty cloths. #2) The lid does NOT LOCK. Bravo!!! what a concept for convenience. Nearly every time, I forget that sock, or blouse, or last dish towel to toss in after load began. Easily open lid, the spinning stops while lid is open, toss in the missed item, close the lid, and resumes washing. I absolutely HATED how the other machines force to open a machine in cycle, pushing the "Off" button, waiting minutes, many minutes for the machine to stop, Unlock, then the cycle begins from the beginning. Terrible amount of abuse and suffering with all the other machines, except Superior Speed Queen. #3) The cycles are SHORT, about 28 minutes with a cool blue digital display that counts down the minutes. My cloths come out smelling, FRESH, that nice clean fragrance of wet cloths makes me smile. The same cloths now seem new and squeaky clean, free of soap scum the former Maytag left a residue of gooey soap, stains, since a quart of water in large basin can't remove dirt and soap, and odor. The quality of this machine is in a class itself. Most laundromats use this sturdy workhorse which I became acquainted when my Maytag lock malfunctioned rendering it useless, I was forced to visit my local laundermat and bought the exact machine I proudly own now. This machine does what a washer should do, wash and clean your dirty, soiled cloths. A olive oil stain in a white cotton shirt did not come out with Maytag crappy machine, now with the spiffy Speed Queen, that old stain came out completely with same Tide detergent. VERY HAPPY CAMPER. This machine has been a therapeutic experience, I enjoy my amazing quick, less than 28 minute loads, compared to nearly 50 minutes for dirty cloths after washing I had to endure with Maytag now in the garbage dump. Oh, and a **(5)*** Year Warranty to boot. Please buy a Speed Queen, and support a True American made product in WI. I love Speed Queen!

LOVE it!!!
We purchased the DR5000WE Speed Queen Dryer and TR5000WN Speed Queen Washer. I have never owned a Speed Queen machine before so can't compare them to the old models, however we LOVE these machines! We have owned an HE set for years and were never happy with them. We like for the dryer to get HOT and this Speed Queen does! The machines are so beefy and solid! Both machines' cycles are sssoo much shorter than our old HE machines. I used to have to put bleach when washing towels or else they would smell funky but I only have to use detergent now. I do use Cheer powder detergent when washing most all of our clothes (I start the cycle, let it get a couple of inches of water, pour in the detergent to start dissolving, then put the clothes/towels in). I use liquid detergent for gentle/cold cycle stuff. Our clothes and towels smell sssooo fresh now! It's nice not having all of the buttons and stuff. We pretty much want to (1) wash our clothes and (2) dry our clothes with minimal fuss and muss. We are SO glad we got the Speed Queens!

5 months in, happy with purchase
I have had this machine for 5 months now. I purchased this brand/model because, like many people, I recall my grandparents having a washing machine for 30 years. My last two machines lasted 6-10 years each. Admittedly, they both cost less than this one - I paid $900 for this and around $600 for each of the last two. But, for me, it's worth the extra money to get (hopefully) quite a bit more lifespan out of the thing. So far it has worked perfectly. (Admittedly, after only 5 months that's to be expected from any washing machine.) One note: this machine will not allow water to fill the tub while the door is open. I don't like that because I put the detergent in the drum first, and I want water to dissolve it before/while I put the clothes in. There is a simple way to bypass this door lockout - can be found on Youtube and elsewhere online. Another point: I never use Eco mode. Clothes seem to come out cleaner using 'heavy duty' mode. I spoke with a washing machine repair man who told me that Speed Queen and Fischer&Paykel are the two brands he would recommend at this time. He has been repairing washing machines for about 40 years. Only time will tell whether this model lasts me as long as I would like (20+ years would be great). I will update this review if any problems arise. A couple notes for other reviewers: 1) I also had a High Efficiency (Samsung) washer before this one. Many people complain about the mold/musty smell from front-loading HE washers. While I too had that problem at first, I realized it was because the drum wasn't drying out when the machine was not in use. So I began leaving the door cracked open when the machine was not in use. That allowed the water to evaporate and fixed the mold/musty smell. (I read this on a forum somewhere...Europeans apparently have been doing this for some time.) 2) Some complain about the delivery process. My total purchase price for this model was $899 - which is competitive for this model vs. purchasing at any brick-and-mortar store I looked at, and included free shipping. Free shipping for a washing machine. I live in Kansas, and this was sent (by third party seller) from New Jersey. So yes, it did take something like a month for the machine to arrive at my house, but given I did not pay for shipping such a heavy object 1000 miles, I can't complain at all.

Very disappointed - broke in three days
I bought this washer because of the narrow 26" width which is what fits down my basement stairs. Kind of pricey but I figured Speed Queen would be a good model and simple design would have fewer problems. I've only had it three days and it is already broken! there is some kind of sensor and electrical system that gives me "error" codes randomly and wash stops. I have to unplug machine, reset, and sometimes it will work; sometimes error comes back. After multiple calls, someone is coming to look at it at the end of the week but who knows when I'll be able to reliably do laundry well. My other complaint is that stuff is still really wet after the spin cycle. Very disappointed. Wish I had bought the "classic" model instead.
