The 60 inch glass backboard gives you the true rebound you'd find on the professional court. It has a sturdy steel rim that can handle fierce dunks and drives, and you can adjust the height of the rim to anywhere between 7.5 feet and the league-standard 10. This hoop gets its stability from a two-piece 5 inch square steel pole. It rests on a 55-gallon base equipped with 4 wheels, so you can move it down the driveway without having to tilt the whole system forward.

  • Disappointed for the price paid. Goal slopes backward unless on perfectly flat ground
It a great basketball goal but the base has to be mounted on perfectly flat (level) ground or the backboard will be tilted backwards with the rim not level (see picture). The Amazon installer had never set one of these up before so it wasn't until he put the final screw in that he realized there was no adjustment for the backboard (and we could not level the base now since he had filled it with water). If you have a driveway that slopes (which most driveways do), be aware of this. I am a bit surprised that for the cost, there isn't a way to adjust the goal to accommodate driveways with a slope. ... show more

  • If you need a PORTABLE unit, this is the best there is.
Style: 2021 Version Size: 60"
This is 5 stars, when compared to PORTABLE basketball rim. For $1200, if you can utilize an in ground system, I would recommend spending the few hundred additional to purchase the Goalzilla. However, as far as portable units go, this is by far the best I have ever seen. I have thousands and thousands of hours playing indoor and outdoor basketball. This far surpasses anything I've seen in a driveway, or in an outdoor tournament. It's relatively easy to raise and lower, though it does take time to slow crank, as opposed to some cheaper units which kind of swing into place. The base is heavy. The backboard is quiet and sturdy. Unless you're a large man, you're not going to get the base off the ground from dunking. The system used to move it is good. You don't have to lean or tilt the pole in order to engage the wheels. There's a level that is pulled down from the front of the rim (the gray area shown) that bring the wheels down and lift off the pads. Getting into an exact location is harder than parallel parking, though. If you need to get a portable unit, and have the money - I highly recommend. It's much better than mid-range in ground systems. ... show more

  • Very solid - by far the best portable system you can buy.
Style: 2021 Version Size: 60"
The media could not be loaded. I’m going to break this review down into three parts: the ordering/delivery, building the “Beast”, and the performance of the “Beast”. Ordering: I ordered the Beast on Prime Day. Amazon was running a lightning deal for $799 which was a tremendous price for this system. However, I was cursed with the “failure to add to cart” error that many people had to deal with on Prime Day, so no matter what I did, I couldn’t get it added to the cart. When the deal expired, I decided to order a “like new” through Amazon Warehouse Deals for $989, and there was also 20% off Warehouse deals for Prime members, so the cost was actually slightly less than the new one for $799. In researching Warehouse deals, most seemed to just have packaging damage and were actually brand new. This hoop is 300 plus pounds when delivered properly, so I should have know there would be problems when I got a UPS tracking number. When they arrived, I only received one box. There are supposed to be three, delivered together on a pallet. The box I got was only the plastic base. Obviously I contacted Amazon and they said I can return it and they will give me a refund. Wow – great!!! I tried to explain how I got it on sale and all they could do was tell me to reorder it new for full price, although they would give me $100 off. I went back and forth with them for about two days before finally emailing jeff@amazon.com and got help from an executive account person. They said they would send me a new one due to the screw up and I was happy with that. However, this new one was shipped USPS (wrong again) and was listed as “damaged” on the day it was supposed to arrive. Great. Amazon said they will send another one. This one was also sent via USPS, even though I tried several times to explain that this needed to be shipped with a freight company. The third one was sent with USPS numbers again (wrong again). Somehow, two of the three boxes showed up via UPS. Weird. I still however didn’t have the third box of steel poles and hardwares so I was still without a hoop. Had to contact Amazon again. Eventually, after talking to both Amazon and Spalding, the third box with the poles arrived about a week later and almost a month after I placed the first order. Spalding was awesome with their customer service (more on this later) and very helpful. Amazon has now changed their listing for this item to include “scheduled delivery” which is correct. Be very careful if you get any USPS and UPS tracking numbers when purchasing the Beast as you do NOT want to go through what I did. Amazon did eventually make everything right and so I do thank them and the executive account person for that. I really appreciated their customer service in this regard. They were very helpful and I will remain a loyal Amazon customer because of this even with the difficulty of delivery. Installation: I was very worried about connecting the poles together as I had read this was horrible. You will definitely need two strong people. I attempted it once by myself and still have a bruise on my leg to show for it. I almost shattered an outdoor table. Before putting the poles together, I did file down the inside of the bigger, top pole. The corners had some welding “residue” and I wanted to get rid of anything that may cause a problem. I also used WD40 as suggested by many others. When putting the poles together, it took about five drops of the pole by my neighbor and I before it was set about four and a half inches, which was perfect. There was an extra nut put onto the pre-manufactured metal base where the pole was attached. I did not see this and put the pole on, then noticed it was not straight. I ended up having to take it off and then remove the nut so the pole fit properly. Quality control issue from Spalding there. The lower braces were pretty easy for me to get attached to the pole. No real problems lining them up. The backboard was a big issue but only because I think I received improper elevator arms. The distance on the backboard between the two elevator arm locations is 22 inches across. When I measured across the elevator arms, they only between 19-21 inches. That didn’t make sense. I ended up having to bend them out to fit properly, and even with that it was VERY tight. I did call Spalding after it was completed (built over the weekend so had to wait until Monday to call) and they offered to send new elevator arms. Once the backboard was attached, I tried to add as much sand as I could. It is so much easier to add sand if it is DRY. Somehow find a way to make it dry. The bags hold too much moisture and it clumps when putting it in. Once you have enough sand it, it is pretty easy to push the whole system back to upright. I wish they could design a better way to get the sand into the system. When completed, the backboard was about a half inch off level. Spalding is sending a bracket to solve this issue. If that doesn’t work, they said they will send new elevator arms. This is probably caused by the issue I talked about earlier. The nuts on the rim do loosen a lot so I may go and try to replace those with ones from a hardware store. One note after talking to Spalding: the manual says not to tighten the nuts on the elevator arm bolts more than flush, but the guy said you can tighten further as long as it doesn’t cause the raising and lowering of the arms to be more difficult. When they were flush, the backboard rattled more. When I tightened further, it seemed to improve sturdiness. Installation was not “easy” by any stretch but now that I know what to expect, I could do it again a lot easier. Performance: I am overall happy with the performance. I have a neighbor that has a silverback in-ground system with a four inch pole. I counted in my head how long the backboard and rim shook after typical contact with a shot and I counted about 10-14 seconds. For the beast, I counted typically between 3-5 seconds. So the system is definitely better than the four inch pole. I have a friend that has a goalrilla in-ground system and that one doesn’t shake pretty much at all. So the Beast isn’t perfect in this respect but for what I paid, I am very happy. I will try to include a video into this review if I can get it uploaded. The appearance is great and it looks much better than any other portable hoop that I’ve ever seen. Added: Spalding did send me new elevator arms that fit like they were supposed to. If for some reason your elevator arms aren’t wide enough, let Spalding know and they will take care of it. ... show more

  • Defective Unit -- Very Poor Customer Service
Style: 2021 Version Size: 60"
Here's been my experience so far: 1) I purchased “The Beast” portable basketball system (model 74560) late December, 2016. My unit has a defect that prevents the front wheels from retracting enough for the unit to rest on the front lower pads. As a result, the unit is always able to roll freely even when the front wheel lever is flush against the lower pad. Others have had a similar problem. Here is an example: https://www.amazon.com/review/RXI2N85JV1LL6 2) They send me a defective unit. 3) I registered the product and filed a warranty claim on 1/2/17 4) I received an email confirming registration, but not confirming my warranty claim. 5) 1/9/17: Still no reply from Spalding, so I called customer service. The customer support person was curt, irritable, impatient, and challenged me on multiple fronts -- "Did you send us a picture? Did you send us a receipt? We can't do anything without a receipt!" I had uploaded everything they needed during the registration process, so I asked him to check. He checked and conceded that I'd provided everything they needed. He said they were 300 emails behind and that it would take them at least another week before they could respond. 6) 1/16/17: I received an email saying "modified wheels and brackets" had been shipped. 7) 1/17/17: I received an email with the tracking number. According to tracking, it didn't ship until 1/17/16 (not 1/16/17 specified in the previous email. 8) 1/21/17: The parts arrived (nearly three weeks after my first contact). 9) 1/28/17: Attempted to install the parts Spalding sent to fix the problem, but the package was missing four bolts necessary to install the repair kit. 10) 1/28/17: Emailed Spalding requesting the parts and I am waiting for their reply. Assuming "The Beast" is as good as everyone says, I started with five stars and knocked off three due to poor customer service. ... show more
