abunda_amazon_reviews No bells and whistles. No Spotify, Pandora, etc. Doesn't have 24 "sound fields". Just has the best overall quality of balanced sound for both movies and audio I have heard anywhere near this price point. DTS sources are rendered incredibly well. High end is crisp without being overly bright and overpowering. Warm mid-ranges combine with thundering bass, negating the need for a subwoofer for me at least. Bass/Treble can be adjusted separately for front, center, surround, and surround rear. Does Atmos, but I may never go there in my living room. I only wish that the internal 31 band EQ that the system uses for setup could be made accessible like Yamaha (I think) did with a smartphone app. I also don't love giving up 20 watts/channel compared to my old ES, but it isn't needed as this puts out plenty of great sound at any volume a normal sized living room would require. Maybe inefficient speakers in a giant theater room might require moving to the 2100 or 3100, but this one fits the budget and the need for me to be happy playing a wide ranging source of music as well as movies. Jazz, rock, vocals, are all rendered beautifully with warmth and great detail. If internet connectivity for streaming is a requirement the 810ES does that, but be aware that it is a rebadged 1080. In 2002 I got my first ES receiver 1des. That receiver still works to this day until I just updated it for HDMI input 1100ES in March of 2018. Sony ES reciever sounds good to me, but they don't seem to get booming loud. I think I had to get it to around 50% of the volumne before it would drive my 3 ways tower speakers. My parent's Onkyo gets loud, my old roommate in college, aiwa gets loud, my old sony non es gets loud (different tower speakers), but they don't sounds as natural as Sony ES. So I just got the 1100ES without researching too much into other brands which I wishes I did a little more now. My setup is 5.1 still even it this is 7.1. 2 tower speakers, a center plus sub. And 2 bose rear speakers. I have a HDR blu-ray and PS4 pro hooked up to it and into a Vizio 55" 4k M series TV. All seem to work fine. Vizio input flick once in awhile, but that was the same even without a receiver passing thru. Good: 1. I just like how sony sounds, but the volume must be like 50-60 or -25-30 hz to drive my towers. Other brands I compared too were budget packet so I can't say about Marantz. 2. Good user-ability, I can use the dashboard navigation or tv screen. Easy to set up. 3. Looks good. The cover plate is nice, but wished it was like the own drop down hinge panel. I like how the Marantz did too. 4. HDMI 2.0 and hdcp 2.2 for Dolby vision and HDR10 pass thru is current with most high end models. Also Dolby Amos sounds really loud. Neutral: My old Sony ES receiver didn't have hdmi, but in term of just using the spdif cable it had really the same features and sound. I say this sound a little better. Sony in over 13 years didn't really add much features to their receivers. Bads: 1. No wireless speaker option. Denon and Marantz has HEO, which is wireless speakers. I don't have room to run cable all over my house, this is 2018, and Denon got that right. Sonos use bluetooth. 2. lack of features at the same price range. 5 hdmi vs 8 from Marantz. No wifi or bluetooth. Again this is 2018, Bluetooth for mobile devices. 3. No headphone jack. Previous ES and most receiver still do. While people don't use receiver for headphone, it is an amp and maybe at night. Overall the review were good about the sound quality and that is what I was most interested in. I guess some people pass on Sony because they don't have the same features to price point ratio for your money, and I can see that. I picked the 1100ES over Sony 810ES as I heard that was a repackaged Sony1080. I considered the Marantz SR5012 with HEOS Blackseries, but I found the better deal for Sony 1100ES that I couldn't pass, even with the lack of wifi speaker features.. Plus I have Sony's recievers for a long time, maybe next time if sony does match feature to price ratio.;;Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2018;;4.0 out of 5 stars;;Great sounds behind in wireless tech;;®ichard;;;Great price and the zone system works great;;Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2018;;5.0 out of 5 stars;;Excellent Receiver;;David W
