  • Almost perfect
For the record I do like this product it actually does allot more for me than I expected. I am dealing with a TV with a Fire TV, a STB and a Roku and all of them utilize a small amp for a bit of surround sound. Before on any given night I wanted to watch TV. I would first wake up my FireTV by pressing a button on the Fire TV remote (2nd gen (no TV power button or volume controls on it)). Then I would ask it to turn on my powered subwoofer. I would then grab the TV remote and turn on the TV which defaults to my Roku player. If I want to use another device I have a remote HDMI switcher since my TV only has 2 HDMI inputs and has 4 devices connected. It was quite an ordeal to run all this stuff juggling all these remotes and even worse when one of them moves into the crack between the bed mattress and the wall or disappears some other place. I purchased this to try and streamline the process a bit. I did read the instructions but it really didn't give me a clear picture of what the Sofabaton is capable of. For example the instructions state to program a button you must hold down the red power button and the Mute button. Because I was using the red power button for programming I assumed it was not a button that could learn a device function-wrong. Once you are in learn mode whatever button that is part of the Sofabaton can be programmed for whatever function you want. And while this solves allot of my remote juggling I think the remote would be better if the "A""B" and "C" buttons would all map for individual devices so that you could re-purpose some of the overlap buttons such as Volume Up and Volume Down. Button "A" on the Sofabaton could map V+, V-, & Mute on my TV and button "B" on the Sofabaton remote could map out V+,V-,& Mute on my soundbar. It would also give you more device functions able to be stored virtually eliminating the need for other remotes. Still, as it stands I was able to program my TV and my soundbar amp power on the red and blue power buttons as well as my input/source button Volume Up, Down and Mute for the TV and using the "B" button to mute the sound bar. This leaves the voice functionality to the Amazon remote and basically means that I only need to switch remotes unless I am using my Roku or my STB. I will also add that Sofabaton buttons many times needed to relearn the same function. For example when in learn mode I was teaching the SofaBaton "Mute" from my TV after I tried it out it had learned both the ON and OFF state of Mute so that pressing Mute on the Sofabaton would actually turn the Mute on and then Off. The second time I taught this function to the Sofabaton I held the Mute button down on my TV remote for less time and things worked out perfectly. So there is a learning curve to this process, but nothing serious. So in order to improve this remote further I would suggest backlit buttons that light when the remote is moved (it's annoying to have a backlit remote that you must push a button on to light it up so you can see what button you really wanted to push). And to Compose the layout on as described above So that Buttons A, B, & C enable you to copy 3 separate device functions over all the buttons available on the Sofabaton. So if I could I would give this a 4.5 it's a good value for the money. ... show more

  • UPDATE: Will fit new 4K Remote -- Handy!
I received this little gadget last night, so long term usefulness / reliability and battery usage will be updated later. Purchased it to control a SHARP AQUOS TV and a YAMAHA Receiver. That's two large remotes to be stored away. 😁 While programming is really easy, I had to repeat it once because it didn't take the first time around, despite the Baton blinking green 3x on each program. I did the first round by holding the Baton and the original remotes in my hand while pushing the buttons. On the second try, I laid the Baton and each remote down on a flat surface, an inch apart and then pushed the buttons. I think the steadiness made it work. The Firestick remote fits snugly but not too tight. The tabs should be holding it in place just fine. The assembled unit feels solid and comfortable in the hand. Everything is working as it should. The only improvement I can think of is a "wheel", like the one on the Firestick Remote; just smaller, with a L/R/Up/Down and Enter function. Since TV Input is kind of important, this added feature would help navigate TV channels. I will update this review over time. Here's how I use the Baton's buttons for now: 🔴 Receiver On/Off 🔵 TV On/Off 🔁 TV Input 🔼 TV Selection UP 🔽 TV Selection DOWN 🔇 Receiver Mute +🔈 Receiver Vol Up - 🔈 Receiver Vol Down 🇦 Receiver HDMI 1 🇧 Receiver HDMI 2 🇨 Receiver AV 1 12/21/2020 UPDATE: I recently upgraded to the Firestick 4K. My worries were that the new remote would not fit the SofaBaton which controls TWO of my devices (TV and receiver), whereas the new remote only controls ONE, plus volume. I really did not want to lose the other functions... But as it turns out, the new remote fits. YAY! It's a little thicker, so it fits more securely. And at the bottom, it's shaped inverted, which means there is a "scoop" as opposed to it being flush with the old remote - see photos. It doesn't really hurt any, nor does it look too weird. Looks like it's meant that way. I'm pretty thrilled and will get a second one to have as a replacement if this one ever breaks or fails. Still going strong a year in... :)) ... show more

  • Less remotes to use
Works great and you only need one remote to replace several remotes

  • First off, this thing is GREAT!
I like my Firestick remote a lot, though it didn't control much of my gear like my Sony Sound Bar, TV Inputs, nor could I change the channel on my TV. With this Add-on cradle with programable buttons, I can do all of those things! And it really is as easy to program as the video leads you to believe. Also, despite what they say, it does work with the Firestick remote with volume control. The catch is the volume adjuster on the original remote won't work once it's inserted because the cradle blocks the remote's beam. But that's ok, there are volume Up/Down knobs on the cradle - I just programed them before slipping the remote into the cradle. The only improvement I can image would be a programable 4-way w/center selector (MORE BUTTONS!!!). I still need to pull out the old remotes and use their 4-ways to navigate through my TV and sound bar menus, but that's not something I do often. ... show more

  • One problem: breaks easily
Update: I dropped it twice and the clips that hold the remote broke off. So I put a rubber band around it. I can’t glue it because i need to take it apart to replace batteries. I still like it. Old date:I bought this to use as my remote for my Synvisus hdmi switcher. The original remote is small and I was afraid of losing it. The sofabaton learned the basic 4 commands: power on/off, inputs 1,2,3,4. So I am satisfied. The only thing I didn’t like was there were only a, b, c buttons. It would be nice to have more buttons. Btw Alexa controls my volume and if I watch cable tv, I use my cable remote. Like I still use a separate remote for my dvd. ... show more
